People at Haliburton's age in the NBA go from 14 to 20 ppg very, very quickly.

He's quite obviously one of the best young guards in the NBA and in the right environment will likely ascend to all star level with a skillset which is more important than Sabonis.

Put it this way, no other front office is a trading a young guard who has already shown he can score from 3, defend, create for others etc for Sabonis.

I think the Mavericks decided they're not contending this season, just wanted rid of KP at all cost, get a better second-star to Luka in the future.

Simmons vs Harden is the only trade that makes sense to me. The rest is all a bunch of bs.

The only explanation for the Porzingis trade is that Dallas hope that they can move on at least one of Dinwiddie or Bertans in the summer. Both are making 16-18 million per season for several years still and both are bad contracts. Dinwiddie has got some skill, but he's shooting 38% this season and there isn't a place in the NBA for anyone these days who shoots below 40%. And Bertans is simply an embarrassing case of someone getting paid and losing interest. Unless he rediscovers his 3-point form, he's a super, super bad contract.

This trade was all about Dallas wanting rid of Porzingis and creating cap space, they are 100% hoping to move at least one of those two players in the summer.

I get that and Porzingis is as injury prone as they come he was perhaps not the best lieutenant for Doncic

What i don't understand is to claim the contract of Bertans which is one of the most fraudulent in the league. 16m/year til 2025

Seems counter productive if the goal is to get rid of Porzingis at least you get someone who will be easier to move not harder. Same about Dinwiddie although he can do a bit more on a basketball court Bertans is strictly a shooter and these days more a slingshot than sniper...

No, see, what you've got to remember about NBA trades is two things: salaries and sometimes having to take on bad contracts. The Wizards wanted rid of Bertans and they knew the Mavericks wanted rid of Porzingis. So, they more or less told the Mavs that "you're either taking both of these bad contracts, Dinwiddie and Bertans, or we're not taking Porzingis off your team". Sometimes teams agree to take on unwanted players to reach their own goals.

The second part is salary, I haven't checked the Wizard's salary cap situation, but often you need to match salaries in NBA trades, so that every team involved in the trade stay below the salary cap. KP's salary is slightly less than Dinwiddie and Bertans combined, so it worked out.

But yes it makes sense from that perspective. Mavericks don't have many high earners maybe they can use those bad contracts to make salaries even in a future trade. Mavericks fans must hope that is the goal on short term.

Nah, these bad teams improve and get better by being shit, drafting well, and making decent trades. Maybe you get lucky like MKE and end up with a Giannis, that's the other way (but that's just "drafting well").

With Haliburton, they drafted extremely well. He's could possibly be the best value for draft place in that entire draft. You don't often get guys who are as NBA ready as Haliburton is at pick #12. He's immediately made an impact and he's just getting started.

Regardless, I think nobody has mentioned the most important thing in here, for me, when it comes to Haliburton. The guy was happy to be in Sacramento. He was thankful to be drafted by them and he had the attitude of "I'm gonna grind until we're a good team. I'm gonna make it happen".

In a franchise like the Sacramento Kings, you just can't trade away guys like that. Because most players view Sacramento like NBA hell and will want to get out of there. You gotta keep the quality guys that can help build a culture, and Tyrese is arguably A1 in that discussion, depending on how you view Fox.

Beat the Raptors by 30, i still think the starting lineup is all wrong and thus the rotations still need some work.

But the shot creation with CJ is 100x better. To the point BI had 10 points and it was one of his best games of the season because he tore them apart with playmaking.
