Another great showing. Intensity wise we were very good. Trying to win the ball up the field is reaping its rewards. We now have 2 more days to prepare for City as the Wolves game is postponed.

today was the prime example of it takes the team's performance to get the fans standing proud behind them, instead of the other way around which some fans sometimes accuse the fanbase of.

Re: The 2021/22 Season
Good result considering how important the league is for us this season and also the fixture congestion due to covid and injuries. Also a good reminder of what we need to get through afcon period.
Is there a way to find a stat of Nketiah starts and our final results???

Well at least we now know that Lokonga is no Xhaka, Patino is not ready, AMN would have been useful, and we desperately need some midfield reinforcement.

Re: The 2021/22 Season
yea agree with both of you
couldn't care less about that exit, top 4 is the goal... would be nice to take the Carabao too, but also wouldn't really care if we exit. Gunna be interesting to see which lineup Arteta goes with on Thursday... this next four games and how he negotiates these two semis with squad selection will say a lot about his decision-making, instincts and overall philosophy. It's easy to just roll out the same set of players and ask them to perform and get the result in such a short matter of days, and then it takes nerve to be picky with such a thin squad.
Midfield and striker reinforcement NEEDED.

Re: The 2021/22 Season
same old, same old
our January collapse solely falls at the feet of Edu and Arteta, they knew about AFCON, they knew in which positions we are lacking in... still didn't do the proper planning to get in early transfers, and probably won't get anyone significant this window

Re: The 2021/22 Season
Couldn't beat a low block. Didn't create enough chances. No plan B. How many times was Pope legit tested? At least try something different. Swap the winger's to the other side or something. Too predictable diagonal pass to winger who cuts in onto strong foot where the crowd is. Then predictably bringing Nietiah on at the very end expecting miracle.
Lokonga was again a passenger. Not his fault. Out of position and not enough support. Couldn't transition the ball from defense to midfield. Same pass Holding-White, and Holding-Gabriel.
Depressing. Should have been in 4th spot. Thankfully we don't play for another 18 days.

top 4 is in our hands, as it seems like United and Spurs will continue to struggle along

For Spurs's losses to Southampton and Wolves, we were due an anomaly like the City result. Hard one to watch but Son and Kane really are everything they're about.

nah don't get me wrong, he made his points well-reasoned and measured as always.. but it also doesn't change the fact that Jay rarely ever gets riled up and he did spaz out against me and Hans, and i think him not being active again after that proves it

Re: The 2021/22 Season
it was after the Everton game in early December. You and I were bringing out the Arteta pitchforks, then Jay wrote a long ass post of how he has to come in here everytime and read about you and me bashing Arteta when we should be considering the long term process etc etc
Edit: it's literally on the previous page of this thread

Right yeah ok, but that's just a normal argument isn't it. Surely not "spazzing out"?

Re: The 2021/22 Season
yea it's normal but i also sensed some annoyance from Jay's part in the moment and the fact that he hasn't been active since then could be chalked up to that.
of course i could be wrong and dude just decided to take a break from the forum regardless

Re: The 2021/22 Season
so Arteta said he think Smith Rowe could work as a 9... thoughts? I mean i think he is a smart enough player to warrant the opportunity if it comes around, but that would take away his best attribute, especially against teams that sit back with a deep block, which is those driving runs.

Thoughts, For me he is foreshadowing that after the season is over and we no longer have a 9 or the ability to recruit any sort of top player at any position including a 9. We will just have to try and make anything work. Tactically he does not really seem to be able to do anything to make use of a 9 or just about any position anyway. We really just seem like we are putting bodies on the pitch and hoping to not loose. So not sure it will matter in the long run.

It's an interesting one. Strikers are the hardest to buy, and it's definitely tantalizing to imagine Martinelli, ESR, Saka and Odegaard all in at the same time, bouncing around and exchanging positions.
He's grown enough to suggest he could deal with the physical demands. City basically play without a striker, so I can see it being an option.
Really wouldn't want to mess with our lineup right now. Laca is doing a solid enough job at everything but scoring. Maybe experimenting with ESR/Martinelli at the #9 could be an option later in games that we're winning.
In any case, this summer we'll need to sign two forwards. One could be a winger/forward.

Re: The 2021/22 Season
Still BUZZING.
Such character this team showed to bounce back from a grave error. It doesn't get much more difficult than breaking down a solid team like Wolves who haven't lost from a winning position this season.
Feels like a marker thrown down. Lots left to play for but the gravity of that result cannot be understated for this young team.
Enjoy your weekends, friends. That was fun.
