I, of course, don't really see that as a reason for is him not showing up when it really mattered.

Portugal couldnt take down a big team this tournament. I think that said it all there tbh. They didnt play horrible but it could be better.

So is Santos done after this? Surely should have done better than 3rd, one win and a round of 16 exit with this team. If so who is his replacement?

Let's hope so. Portugal have an outstanding squad with WC players all over, but I've always said Santos is incompetent.

If portugal want to really compete and we all know they are capable of it, they need a better manager

Harsh comments on Santos. He won them a eurocup and a nations league, the only titles Portugal has ever won.

Portugal was good, clearly better than Belgium in the second half. Mostly they were let down by Rui Patricio for the goal and by their finishing. More down to the players than the manager tonight

Surprised he stayed/Portugal kept him after WC 2018 but now would be as good as a time to bring in another manager to deal with this project as it really is a fine group of players.

Then again, Fonseca & Conceicao aren't exactly clamouring to become NT managers. I guess they can ask the Sporting CP manager to double hat?!

Then there are terrible choices like Jardim and Villas Boas...

it should be a cracking matchup
both teams have talented players, both teams are well drilled and have played good football for the past few years. Both teams have good tactical coaches. Both teams weren't really at their best this round, and i'm sure they will want to both improve in the next game.

Roberto Martinez is a good, tactical coach?

What puzzles me is how th did Portugal win it last time, with Ronaldo injured off as well. I guess the France team then didnt have Mbappe or something...

Not sure what to make of this game, Belgium had De Bruyne off injured again, not a great nor bad performance, pretty good I guess. So was Portugal, I guess they just lacked some balance in the team and Ronaldo prolly aging that much means hes been able to offer less in terms of winning games clutchness.

reasonably, yes
sets his team up well with his personnel in mind, and can make good in-game adjustments now and then

Will be fascinating to see what Portugal could become post-Ronaldo. There isn't enough balance with them right now. Too Ronaldo-centric for my liking.

I think the spot light will go to Joao Felix afterwards but yeah they need to start thinking of the time without him. At least till the next WC

Such a frustrating loss for Portugal after playing better than Belgium the whole match. Gotta create more chances, though. For Belgium, the lack of new talent to compliment this golden generation is starting to show a little, imo.

Anyone else wonder how this Portugal side would look without Ronaldo starting? Obviously he's a world-class scorer, but this was another one of those matches where he was kinda useless since he didn't get opportunities to score. Spending so much time standing there by the defenders, waiting for someone to put it on a plate for him, instead of taking part in the build-up.
