Re: The US Politics Thread
Sounds cliche but anyone who brags about his wealth at every turn is probably very insecure, has serious doubts about his sense of self worth and is overcompensating.

Re: The US Politics Thread
Moving on...
Joe Biden was just inaugurated and gave a completely normal, average, bland, conventional inauguration speech. And for some reason I can't quite tell it felt like something new.
Glad I can go back to not caring about politics and Donald not renting space on my head. So long DT...

Best of luck to the new President of the United States.
Fuckin nightmare is over. Well, it's not actually, but at least it isn't embarrassing my country on a daily basis and, as BC said, renting so much goddamn room in my head. Fuck off to hell Donald Trump, I hope you get removed from the Senate and imprisoned

Re: The US Politics Thread
Our populist gov put it all on the line for Trump and its also sweet to see their heads explode after burning every international bridge. We basically have zero foreign policy right now, they refused to acknowledge Biden as potus until "everything is resolved" as if they took Trumps attempt to steal the election as a serious affair. Not only does America win but also wannabe dictators in other countries have lost their loyal friend with hidden retard strength, Donald himself.

Who cares what this lying sack of shit has to say
https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/politics/trump-claims-database/
In four years, President Trump made 30,573 false or misleading claims,
The only time he told the truth is when he said he'd date Ivanka if he could.

Biden probably just covering, it probably said something like "eat a bag of dicks, Sleepy Joe", but Biden figured if he said that it was an alright letter people would move on within like 20 minutes...

Yeah now that Trump is gone we can talk about how Biden is way too far to the right on most issues. Finally.

Hopefully he stays alive and Kamala doesn’t take office. She’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
QAnon.. I remember the days where anonymous actually reported on stuff that was relavent.
They will never let a Ron Paul, amash, or a AOC get into office. At least not yet. That being said, it didn’t stop me from voting for Bernie and it shouldn’t stop anyone from voting for honest politicians. I won’t give up in that regard.
I keep saying this but you guys just keep talking left or right. It’s about honesty, it’s not about left or right. You lost the game as soon as you start looking at politicians like that.

Re: The US Politics Thread
Yeah basically. It's been an open secret that it's exactly why Biden was instantly the front-runner in the primaries and election.
The Obama era represents normalcy after 4 years of Trump. Personally, I see it as a return to the same stuff that got us Trump in the first place.
Not a single lesson has been learned from that era of "normalcy".

I mean the choice was Biden or Trump. Pick your poison.

Biden was the obvious choice between the 2, that's not really up for debate.
We went from Obama (Center-left) > Trump (Far Right) > Biden (Center-Left).
That is progress in the barest of senses. We took 2 steps back with Trump, but have merely regained those 2 steps lost with Biden. I don't see this as an actual step forward.

1/ Dallas County officials halted a plan that would have prioritized COVID-19 vaccine doses for people living in the most vulnerable ZIP codes after Texas threatened to cut the county’s vaccine supply. https://t.co/WXLPoUHIXX

This would not be possible if these specialized hospitals and care centers were in lower-income communities of color, but what financial incentive is there to put them there? These people don't make enough money to support that business model. So they go without while the people who do have the financial means (White folks mostly) get those services right at their doorsteps.
Ahhh Capitalism. Really coming through for the BIPOC working poor there.

Re: The US Politics Thread
Fact of the matter is that when it comes to sweeping structural changes, the president doesn't matter nearly as much as congress. And with a 50+1 senate majority, any deviation will cause pushback and that guarantees and extremely centrist administration.
The positive side is that the definition of 'centrist' has moved to the left in some areas over the past 8 years, for instance in healthcare, where universal healthcare now has majority support, even amongst republicans. But for most of the other stuff he doesn't really have a mandate for a big push in the progressive agenda.

As a software geek, the state was rolled back to the last functional version. At least, there's a starting point to go forward.

I'd say you're far behind than after Obama, the reason is the country is divided. Undoing the damage Trump caused would take substantional amount of time from the first Biden term (Harris anyone?).

So I am not well versed in the financial sector. My only real experience with finance is managing my own budget for my household. I know very little about investing so I've been trying to educate myself in real time on what's happened this week. I still don't understand a lot of the verbiage and terms so at some point I feel like a Khan Academy crash course on investing will be beneficial, but I do understand the political component to this.
It is a very bad sign for Wall Street when a far-left politician like AOC and a far-right politician like Ted Cruz actually agree that this Robinhood mess is bad and should be looked at by Congress. Wall Street thrives on the division between the haves and the have nots and they are often aided by politicians that receive very generous donations to their re-election campaigns to keep carry water for and protecting these powerful hedge funds.

Candidates for congress should go through a mental check before they are allowed to run
