Top play from Jesus. 1-1.

Liverpool's pressing just went awry. Mane came inside to press Dias and left a space for Walker. Once the wide player has been taken out, it's easy to pull the midfield apart and get De Bruyne into play.

Given the pen Leicester got earlier, this should be a pen against Gomez.

But it's still bull tbh. Awful rule.

Said it last year, Gomez was the weak link in the whole line up. They should have signed someone better.

De Bruyne as amazing as he is, just isnt precise enough in certain situations, otherwise he really would be pinnicle level like Messi/Zidane/Xavi, I used to say that for example similarly Lampard, in terms of when he would 20 times a game and only get 1 or 0 goals Razz Or just miss a perfect pass to Drogba by just a little.

Walker conceding a stupid PK, TAA forgetting to defend for Jesus goal and KdB missing PK players have a lot to blame here.

Tactically both Klopp and Pep have been great, interesting to see what happens in the second half.

On the balance of it, a fairly even game. I'm happy KdB missed the pen for footballs sake.

Pool dominated the first 25, but City had the better chances after that. Sterling probably should have scored, Jesus with a wonderful goal, and KdB popped up into a couple of dangerous positions. Trent did have a good opportunity at the end.

I think City probably feel hard done by with the obvious foul on Sterling not being called and leading to the Liverpool pen, but it's tough to make that association as the penalty was a full 45 seconds later.

I probably would’ve been hesitant to grant Sterling a pen, as well, considering how often he milks light contact, and throws himself to the ground around the box.

Sterling's tackle was not a penalty let alone a foul. The guy is a notorious diver and falls down when he knows he can't bypass a player since he is predictable as it comes.

Firmino and Jota both not in this game and not melding well in this formation.

Looks like a good sub Shaq should provide some more energy and pace to the team.

Pep trying to counter it with BSilva doesn't have the pace but brings a lot of energy and good with the ball at his feet

Sterling has been poor usually when the stake are high unfortunately it's what's stopping him from entering world class imo.

For the sake of a better title race, I think City did have fair amount of chances, of course including the penalty, to win this game and get closer to top 3. But they missed it.
Liverpool also had good amount of chances in the first quarter of the game to make it 2-0 minimum. But they also missed getting into a better position in the table in the long term.

As BarcaLearning said, every amount of bit is tried from football demons to stop Liverpool Laughing Gomez seems to be improving and improving. Hope he learns that bit of game to be consistent for the full 90 minutes, doesn't matter which game it is.
But Klopp still doing amazing job with the amount of injuries and the hectic schedule that he has to manage.

It was outside the box so it obviously wasn't a pen, but it was more of a foul than the foul that took Mane down (which was a foul...they both were).

List of things a small tactic change can achieve:

Arsenal PL champions
Unlocking Paul Pogba
Eriksen playing over Gagliardini

Who’s ever unlocked Pogba? I’ve little to no recollection of his supposedly dominant time at Juventus. I mostly just remember him disappearing in the CL against Real Madrid.

Since then, I’m pretty sure I haven’t seen a season from him where he’s looked above average in a double digit number of matches. Even the world cup only has a couple of matches in it.

This season PL is not impressive, neither City or Pool will win the the league in the fashion they did the last 3 season, other teams have a chance they don’t need to be dominant.

City Liverpool was a pretty good game, started amazing then got tactical and tense. The soaked surface was slowing the passes down too and Liverpool had trouble dealing with that.

Liverpool started on fire but as soon as City started intercepting their long forward passes they got in deep trouble due to the formation

Honestly I would prefer Firmino to Jota and I think Klopp took off the wrong player

Anyway, great game, and I don't really mind watching Liverpool, and don't mind them winning, as long as Thiago is out. Hope it stays that way.
