Pedri González has become the youngest player to make 12+ recoveries in a single LaLiga game since at least 2007/08. [opta]

Named man of the match.

I hardly get the full coverage of post match details, but it showed Messi was MOTM? Or are we talking about something else?

Anyway, Pedri definitely keeps improving, in that sense we really got one for the future, without needing to spend to buy one it looks like. Him and De Jong we are just missing the last piece now for our midfield Smile

What a gem. Great maturity and understanding. Keeps the game simple, which is almost impossible anyone of his age.

Next step is more end product, goals most notable. He likes the advanced areas and thrives there, but to do it, you have to find ways to chip in with goals here and there. Though perhaps this is mostly an issue because we don't have 3 forwards ahead of him who are consistently contributing.

Welcome back dani. Great to have you back. Agreed on Pedri. I like that he is versatile, defends excellently, has a terrific and just doesnt make mistakes. With such young players, you expect the odd giveaway in dangerous areas. Pedri doesnt. One thing I dont like about his game is the constant deference to Messi, at the expense of better options.

Thanks Alex, nice to see your still around.

Agree about Messi in relation to Pedri. its been a constant problem forever and whenever I see players ignore him for the better option im pleasantly surprised. This is part of the reason Messi leaving isnt the disaster option we are told it will be, other players will take on responsibilities they currently pass on to Messi out of deference rather than logic.

Pedri is passing up shooting opportunities, which I dont like. Its been many minutes now and I still cant
fully grasp how good a striker of the ball he is because he so rarely attempts.

I also sense he isnt quite the distance or line breaking passer which i'd love him to be, not that he is bad but he doesnt quite have the weight of pass down right yet.

But the infrequency of his give aways are really impressive, my kind of player for sure. His defensive work is a complete shock, he's almost never out of control and stays well balanced all the time. Plus he is very smart and reads intentions well.

Concerned for him. He has played non stop this season as a 17 year old kid. 42 out of 43 games for us. Now starting games for Spain. Expected to play the Euro and the Olympics. Too much workload on a just turned 18 year old. And its not as if he doesnt work on the field. Despite his technical genius, he is the hardest working player on the field every single game. Puts in 12 to 13 kms every game. Worried he might injure himself.

He looks like he is on his last legs. Desperately needs a break. Has played 50 games plus internationals as a starter at 18. Covering a lot of ground each game. Clearly needs a rest.

Yes, he has been jaded for some time now. He still has moments of great play but you can see something is missing.

Got to see more Moriba and/or Puig.

Tremendous game. I am hoping Spain can get eliminated as soon as possible so he can get a proper rest and recovery.

He looks very good, keeps the ball in some of the toughest situations and his range of passing is on more display for Spain, where he isnt trying to force feed predictable patterns of play.

Amazing how this boy, plus De Jong and Busi, on paper, you cannot find a better midfield in the world. But due to horrific tactics, team balance, system, useless forwards and suspect defenders, in practice it doesnt work.

Anyway, tremendous tournament and he justifies all these minutes he plays.

Agree. Need to clear out the gutter trash and let the boy play freely.

As good as he is for Barca, he is even better for Spain and the reasons are clear. Players ahead of him who move without the ball and therefore he isnt limited to 1 single Argentine passing choice.

For some reason I havent really watched him at the Euros since I havent really watched Spain, I tried on one or two occasions but they were so boring Razz I missed the vs Italy match, only saw the highlights.

Anyway, great to hear for some one aged 18 doing so well. I guess they all raise their game for the NT, but good to know we have a future in our MF.

Not sure about Busquets going forward, my main worry is just his atheticism, not sure what happened at the Euros with him in terms of how he didnt struggle vs a young Italian team full of energy?
