Re: Lionel Messi Transfer Speculation
Just to clarify for some people here... La Liga only plays a role in rules in La Liga. So for them to say that Messi's contract doesn't allow him to go for free is only an issue if Messi wanted to go to another La Liga team, which he doesn't.
The European rules are UEFA and the world is FIFA. Those are the two that are relevant to Messi since he's likely going to EPL.
La Liga and Barca can sue Messi after he leaves and ask EPL, UEFA and FIFA to stop him from playing... but only EPL, UEFA and FIFA can stop Messi from signing/playing outside of La Liga.
Now, if a deal was struck between Barca and another club OR a release clause was triggered, then Barca & La Liga would need to validate the deal (which is what happened with Neymar) and release the player. But Messi is voiding his contract in this case so it doesn't need La Liga and/or Barca to get involved. There's is no bilateral transaction.
Just a FYI.

There's no issue with FIFA, due to worker's right if Messi requests a transfer to City he has to get it. The issue is within Spanish contract law, and it's between Messi and Barca (and possibly City if Messi is unable/unwilling to pay).

Re: Lionel Messi Transfer Speculation
They can't stop him BC. They can sue him... but they can't stop him unless he wants to play in another club in Spain.
He won't have to pay until a court rules on it. He can play in the meantime. If he loses, he would have to pay Barca punitive damages.
Apparently, City is willing to take that chance and indemnify Messi. And UK/EPL will issue him a work permit.
This is destined for a legal battle. Once it becomes less of a political issue (post election is my guess for Barca), it will be settled for some sum of money.

The interesting part will be if Messi loses and City need to pay based on their indemnity agreement... will FFP get involved lol. City can afford it no problem. But it would destroy their FFP compliance I assume looool.

Re: Lionel Messi Transfer Speculation
Apologies if I'm missing points here, haven't been following football much lately, but if the rumors of Messi wanting out are truly legit, Barcelona shouldn't stand in his way.
It has absolutely nothing to do with me being a Madrid fan btw. I would rather Madrid compete with a full-strength Barça than a weakened one. However, keeping players against their will is never the answer, especially when we're talking about the greatest player in the club's history.
I think he has done enough for the club to be allowed to leave smoothly without resistance when he feels the time is right.
Madrid lowered Ronaldo's clause from 1 billion to 100m so Juve could afford him. That's how you repay a man who won many trophies for you. Barcelona should do the same with Messi. Just my two cents.

Re: Lionel Messi Transfer Speculation
I agree with DoC, but when people say Messi has given Barça enough, it has to be said that he has also been the highest earning footballer in the world. It is not like he's given a lot to Barça out of his good will.
I am sure a deal will be reached between City and Barça for more than what Ronaldo went to Juventus for in the end.

Re: Lionel Messi Transfer Speculation
At this point it certainly looks like no one knows what is the truth or not.
Reliable Journos say there is no release clause, they show Barto confirming this in an interview, then La Liga says there is a release clause, journos calls BS.
Also, I highly doubt Messi, more specifically his lawyers wouldn't go forward this much if they didn't think they have a legitimate case against Barcelona. Lawyers are crooks but would they really waste Messi's time and money?
Im calling it now that La Liga are scared shitless that they are losing Messi within 2 years of losing Ronaldo. El Clasico a decade ago was Ronaldo vs Messi now its Vinicius vs Fati

So the worst kept secret of GL in the last 5 years has been that Harmonica supports Messi, not Barça.
Then again he was asking RG for pub and hotel tips for Manchester.

he is saying that Barca need to change their way of thinking because football has evolved a lot and they can’t just stick to their DNA. He says that other aspects of football have evolved and now in football there is more speed, more physicality and they can’t just rely on technique all the time.Cruijf wrote:Can anyone translate

Re: Lionel Messi Transfer Speculation
If Barca was sticking to their DNA Vidal wouldn't have been signed. Rosell and Barto always wanted to step away from it. We just simply don't have an identity signing random profile players and managers jumping back and forth between different styles. Rosell always thought he could be another version of Perez they wanted to have galatico policy.

Don’t really see this as controversial though tbh, saying Barca needs more athleticism is common knowledge at this point. He should’ve straight up called the board out for being incompetent if he’s being pushed out anyway.

He did, he said how things are done wrong and not just from the players side, etc.

Not true, might want to check some of my posts and topics, like "Real Refdrid, Real Uefadirt, different names, same schemes".Arquitecto wrote:

I've pretty much always supported clubs through magical players. Not having your own city team, I don't really understand how could you otherwise? There needs to be something magical, some connection.
Pittsburgh Penguins with Lemieux, stopped watching after, not caring even Crosby era.
Detroit Red Wings was my second team the same era, because of the Soviet players. Never watched game after.
Only watch Winnipeg Jets games, because of Laine.
Lakers with Magic Johnson, never watched NBA game again.
United with Cantona, stopped caring after.
Argentina with Maradona, then Batistuta, Saviola and finally with Messi. Ongoing, and might be for life.
Barcelona with Messi, ongoing, although on very thin ice.
