Re: Ligue 1 20/21
Honestly BC, if it wasn't Messi, he'd be benched. Doesn't defend at all, no running without the ball, no defense, etc... Mbappe of course and also Neymar are clearly better.
They can't defend with 7 players. So they need Neymar/Mbappe and another forward that will do the work in an 8 man defense.
Messi/Neymar/Mbappe will never work.
That's why IMO, Cavani and Di Maria were so critical to playing next to Neymar and Mbappe. Those two, besides being brilliant on the attack, did the job defensively.
Wijnaldum/Gueye was a big problem too frankly.

Too bad Di Maria isnt the Real Madrid version, otherwise him playing as one of the hard working midfielder would be so good in an imaginery world Guess PSG will just have to make do for this season with whoever rotates to partner Verratti there, prolly between Gueye/Danilo/Parades to do the defensive work...

Mbappe is one of the worst finishers I know, could've hat-trick again from the chances that were put on plate for him. That's the reason for loss against Nantes, and the Neymar peno miss. Haaland for Mbappe is going to fix every issue with PSG.

Guys, give it a rest. Mbappé has been rubbing his nuts all over Messi's forehead since their first encounter He did it in the WC game against Argentina, at the Camp Nou last year, and has clearly been the best offensive player for PSG this year.

Re: Ligue 1 20/21
Messi is going to be 35 soon. you retire at 35. or play at mls. 70% of Messi's game was the deadly runs at defenders and ability to dribble everyone. now he does not have the pace for that so his game is now all about his passing abilities.
If Mbappe leaves, with messi and Neymar playing like old men, PSG is in big big trouble next season.

it's not a question about who is better atm or heading forward, but rather just bringing up the fact that Mbappe is nowhere close to being one of the most clinical finishers we've ever seen.

Not one of the most clinical finishers? He has had 90 goals in 103 matches for PSG and he just turned 23
Re: Ligue 1 20/21
well the amount of chances he gets he should be going along at the rate of Ronaldo for Madrid

Its obvious Mbappe lives rent free in Jiopsi's head given he is outperforming Missi week in week out and by a mile. Latter being a clear flop so far for Paris meanwhile Mbappe likely to knock out Madrid next leg.

Re: Ligue 1 20/21
Ronaldo was 24 when he joined Madrid. Before then his goalscoring record was 84 goals in 196 matches (0.43 ratio vs Mbappé's 0.87).El Gunner wrote:well the amount of chances he gets he should be going along at the rate of Ronaldo for Madrid

Nobody claimed he's the best finisher ever. You're arguing against a claim that you made up yourself.
Not that Mbappé is infallible or anything, but the subtext of these critiques from Messi fans is pretty clear. Messi fanboys are laying the foundation for the old narrative of Messi being let down by inferior teammates and absolve him of any responsibility when things eventually go wrong. It's odd how we have to constantly hear about Mbappé's supposed wastefulness when Messi has the WORST shot conversion rate in Ligue 1
Oh and Mbappé is also the leading assist provider despite Messi contributing fuck all in the scoring department. He's the one being let down by a declining start who's not pulling his weight.

Because of assists in midfield that Messi somehow scored. In the mean time Mbappe misses 1on1 in every game that Messi creates.farfan wrote:Oh and Mbappé is also the leading assist provider despite Messi contributing fuck all in the scoring department. Re: Ligue 1 20/21
Imagine putting Mbappe's record breaking season down in comparison to Messi.
Messi's stats are Panic-Posted as Ill coin to the moment he is failing. Things like most completed passes in the left quadrant of the field to most assists layed off by the main assister meanwhile we will just ignore his pathetic goal rate and being Mbappe's actually relevant stats.

Do you even look at the stats you always seem to be quoting before making these ridiculous claims?
Mbappe making an assist because Messi scores! Messi has a grand total of 2 goals in league play, which may account for 2 of his assists. What about the other 7? Just looking at the stats shows how much bs there is to your posts. Mbappe 12 goals, 9 assists. Messi 2 goals, 8 assists.

Messi (and CR for matter) are no longer part of the top 10 players in the world anymore. Maybe not even top 20 in Messi's case... yet people want to compare him TODAY to the best player in Mbappe (imo).
Mbappe, Haaland, Salah, Neymar, Lewandowski, Verratti, Van Djik, Modric, Benzema, etc. are all better players today and I can keep going.

Their time is done and its no shame in admitting that as both players (maybe not Messi) are playing well beyond the expected age and no stat about how Messi is dribbling past his own teammates per minute will justify otherwise.

Messi has 7 goals. What I said is completely correct. Messi would've 15 assist minimum if Mbappe was a good finisher.futbol_bill wrote:Harmonica wrote:Because of assists in midfield that Messi somehow scored. You’re mixing manipulating stats again. You on one hand are talking about ligue 1 and then you mix in goals from CL play!

I agree with this. Both of them are no longer relevant and shouldn't be considered among the best anymore.
Just a side note though, the moment I noticed Ronaldo was no longer elite is with Man United this season. So his decline became at 37 even though he's still putting decent numbers (he has 8 goals in the league so far). Messi on the other hand is only 34 and yet he has already declined.
His decline became truly apparent last season with Barça. Copa America gave him an undeserved Ballon d'Or but his season with Barça was truly catastrophic.
Still, when he signed for PSG, I expected him to tear the league open. So the fact that he only has two goals speaks volume on his rapid decline.

Re: Ligue 1 20/21
I'm just gonna add one thing about PSG. I already said that their victory against Madrid was well-deserved in the other thread. But the player I feared the most in the game was by far Mbappé. He was deadly, quick and turned our defense inside out many, many times.
I think it's safe to say he's the one carrying them and that PSG is a completely different team without him.
Messi was very disappointing to say the least.

He's by far their big and best star and outperforms Neymar as well by now who is supposed to be in his prime whereas Mbappe is not even near it.
I love that Mbappe's assist stats are seldom mentioned whereas with Messi we are analysed his every micro movement akin to when that scrub Oscar (Chelsea) was being analysed for his backward short passes.
Its just clutching onto straws by now.
