Managers are very important... but players win games and trophies. I look at this Barca squad and it's literally half built. Some very nice pieces. And then some gaping needs.

Yay, finally its happened. Knowing Xavi from watching him for so long, though I dont follow him at all in Qatar , I think he will be very good for Barca - as long as hes up to date and not too much of an purist or idealist, since Tika Taka has been pretty much made obsolete or at least outdated nowadays?

Firstly, he is a leader, he has great personality, knows in n out of everything in Barca n Spain. He was a generational Spanish talent who was pretty much key to them dominating those yrs 2008- until he left. Even prior to that he was a good MF for ages in the 2000s. I believe he will have the authority to make hard decisions and be tough which is what Barca need now, but also win other the players n fans, while keeping the management n press relationships well (like Zidane I hope). Dont expect him to do anything like Pep, Cruyff, or Zidane level, but definitely dont think he would fail badly like Lampard or Pirlo etc.

Secondly this will definitely be a real long term project and so he will be given a lot of time I believe, at least a few yrs, Ole style, basically he will be immune, especially until we rebuild financially first and then the buying of real stars again. Meanwhile he will of course implement his style and progress while getting min. results which I think should be quite low requirement, since we are just so bad now... definitely top 4 would do, or even missing out that he would stay.

Thirdly I think Sergi is good for interim, no idea about how good he is managing teams level, but he really was a Barca legend, so he will know what to do until Xavi arrives.

Fourthly Im truly happy and excited a bit after so long I think it will take a long time still, but we are FINALLY STARTING our real rebuild with Xavi. The past few managers have really just been more short term and results/trophies focused (obviously since we also had Messi who could have won us stuff), but now it is time, after soooo long delayed.

Its just so great to see him, a true legend of the club and the game, a very likable guy to come back to manage Barca finally.

Reading he wont likely arrive for another week or so, understandably, He has to finish off the Qatar team and move back to Spain together with his family n staff, etc. I think its best he can come in preparation for the Benfica, assuming that we beat Kyiv since they were so bad, hopefully it wont be that hard at their ground, while league or cup games if any b4 Benfica dont matter that much.

Pep and Zidane are the only managers who succeeded at top clubs after joining with minimal top level experience in recent memory. Let's not forget the quality of players they had going in even if their respective teams were underperforming at the time.

On one hand, Xavi is smarter than guys like Lampard, Ole, Seedorf, Arteta, Inzaghi, and Pirlo. He will also have players who will do a better job at playing his version of football compared to Pirlo trying to do that at Juve. Though I also think he’s more dogmatic in his approach compared to all of those names which can be a major weakness if/when things start going wrong.

Xavi will probably play 3-4-3 with a box midfield. So essentially a 3-2-5 in possession. I’m personally interested to see who he will be playing in between the lines off the CF. Will it be attacking midfielders with Dembele and Fati hugging the line? Or will he play Dembele and Fati centrally and then play actual wingbacks in Dest and Alba who will hug the line instead? If it’s the former and it’s going to be attacking midfielders then I can see Coutinho being a potential bounce back candidate.

Cou has been so bad for so long thought, I dont see how he can get back to his back even if u build the team around him Can only imagine him taking that shot one trick pony, or just to pass or lob it to Aguero. Him n Depay get in each others way If he doesnt work can play Pedri or someone there?
