It is true. Babun tried to claim it was an American thing then got super quiet when I brought up a wikipedia article that was full of his own countrymen mistaking Japanese people with Chinese.
And its wrong when people are the victims of violence and racism. Europeans bring a net influence of crime such as drug dealing, pedophilia, and domestic assault to Asia and they are never stereotyped and singled out the way Japanese(and non chinese other Asians) have been in the west.
It doesnt matter if a Japanese person can tell a slav from a celt. Both are treated with dignity and respect in the country. Japanese fans were called Chinese, and literally kicked out of stadium in Germany. They pleaded they were not Chinese, and it didnt matter because its never mattered. If I hate Chinese people I also, by default, hate every person who looks like they could be Chinese. There is no difference.
But that is not an exclusively Asian issue. If the virus originated in Brazil, all Latinos would be objectified, no matter if from Brazil, Argentina, Chile or Uruguay etc.
And again, its a vocal minority rather than majority.

i don't mean to demean your career rincon, especially if you're specialising out of love, passion, deep interest. From an individual standpoint there's nothing wrong in pursuing a scientific career

How long does it take after getting first symptoms to get really bad if it's gonna get bad. What I mean is if it has not get serious after 4 days what are the chances it could still get serious.

As far as I've read, it depends on the person. I don't know of the overall timespan. Someone might have some evidence that is more specific

The scary thing about this virus is that you can get it and show no symptoms, you just continue your daily routine and unknowngly infect all sort of people, some with weak immune systems who could die from this.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread - Part 2
Think I might've had it, with very mild symptoms, since about 10 days.
Not sure, I had a cold before (3 weeks ago), but that was almost gone and then I kept feeling somehwat weird. Very tired and easily exhausted, I developed a constant need to not really cough, but clear my throat, and for a couple of days my lungs felt weird and heavy, not hurting, but weird.
Might not be anything but a long slow plolonged comedown from my cold, though.
Can't wait until they start producing them proper anti body test so I can check and go visit my old parents again

Thimmy wrote:How are the Swedes of this forum doing, these days? From what I’m reading, the liberal approach doesn’t seem to be working out, at all The lockdown is costing our companies 600m euros+ per week, and the government is paying heavily for it, but it really looks like it’s an investment that’s paying off in the long-term. As much as I would like to travel across the border again, I really hope the Swedish government start taking this more seriously.
There's a fair amount of talk in Finnish media about Sweden nowadays. Their approach has been more on the herd immunity side, protecting the vulnerable but allowing life to go on for the rest. They haven't placed restrictions as much, more guidelines to avoid social contact. It's too early to say whether their approach will actually be a good one, this faster spread early on is expected in their model. Apparently, though, they are a bit worried that the virus seems to have reached a larger number of vulnerable people than they had anticipated.

I think I read that if you need hospitalisation it's going to happen about one week into your symptoms. That in about a week (4-10 days) your symptoms either turn worse or you overcome the illness.

I think I have it now tbh. For 3 days my body feels like I have been beaten with a bat. It's like when you do a really hard session in the gym and 2 days later you can't move. I have for the last 2 nights woke up sweating and I nap all the time. I don't think I've had a running fever and I don't have a cough or a sore throat. My eyes hurt when I look from side to side as well. The problem is I suffer from something called white coat syndrome and hypercondria so if I look into a illness for to long I developed the symptoms and then I worry and then I feel worse. People laugh at me all the time about it but it's a pain in the ass tbh.Hapless_Hans wrote:Think I might've had it, with very mild symptoms, since about 10 days.

Small US Update:
Apparently the last time MA purchased equipment, the Feds diverted it (even though it had been paid by MA tax dollars) to Florida because it's a swing state.
So, today MA purchased directly from China and the governor asked his billionaire friend to use his private plane to bring it over, circumventing the process and the Feds.
What a sad state of affairs when states have to figure out ways to avoid the Federal government making this worse.

My grandmother is a hypochondriac as well. She’s «been dying» for about 15-20 years now, and she keeps complaining that I hardly ever visit her. The problem is, she’s gotten so senile at this point, that she complains more about me not visiting her, during periods where I visit her often. I visited her 4 times in a month, and at least two of those times she claimed that she hadn’t seen me in so long that she barely recognised me

I didn't deny racism exists in Germany (it does everywhere) and I wrote myself that a f**cking racist anywhere would use the occasion to attack Asians. A normal thinking person in Germany won't do that, that we agree on I think. Now, here, no one bends the truth to protect minorities because the whole society is just waiting to attack Asians, that's BS.Young Kaz wrote:Myesyats wrote:Young Kaz wrote:
Because when the axe is swung on China my head is also chopped off. Outside of Asia we are the same thing to everybody.
You project these claims as if thats what everyone does. Maybe that was true in the 80s but not anymore apart from a small but vocal minority.
Also whats wrong about not being able to tell between Chinese, Japanese and Korean?
Would you be able to tell Poles from Ukrainians and Russians or Slovaks?

Re: The Coronavirus Thread - Part 2
So I read that the famous US Navy hospital ship U.S.N.S. Comfort, which left from Norfol VA for NYC to much fanfare last week, seen off in Virginia by the President himself and greeted in New York by happy residents risking to break quarantine, is explicitly NOT allowed to take on Covid-19 patients
Military regulations disallow anypatient who tested positive on board, and also excluding a whole number of other diseases.
So what overstrained hospital in NYC now have to do, they have to do extensive and elaborate testing on patients presumably without Covid-19 (including a Covid test which after all is precious ) accompanied by complicated paperwork, in order to shift any patient onto the ship so they can gain space for a Covid-19 patient themselves.

USA number one IMO

On Thursday, though, the huge white vessel, which officials had promised would bring succor to a city on the brink, sat mostly empty, infuriating executives at local hospitals. The ship’s 1,000 beds are largely unused, its 1,200-member crew mostly idle.
Only 20 patients had been transferred to the ship, officials said, even as New York hospitals struggled to find space for the thousands infected with the coronavirus. Another Navy hospital ship, the U.S.N.S. Mercy, docked in Los Angeles, has had a total of 15 patients, officials said.
“If I’m blunt about it, it’s a joke,” said Michael Dowling, the head of Northwell Health, New York’s largest hospital system. “Everyone can say, ‘Thank you for putting up these wonderful places and opening up these cavernous halls.’ But we’re in a crisis here, we’re in a battlefield.”
On top of its strict rules preventing people infected with the virus from coming on board, the Navy is also refusing to treat a host of other conditions. Guidelines disseminated to hospitals included a list of 49 medical conditions that would exclude a patient from admittance to the ship.
Ambulances cannot take patients directly to the Comfort; they must first deliver patients to a city hospital for a lengthy evaluation — including a test for the virus — and then pick them up again for transport to the ship.
