Portrait of a Lady on Fire
romantic love can only be fleeting, that's its nature, and only death is powerful enough to carry it into the depths of time.
So beautiful and elegant, and brilliant and effortless. Celine Sciamma, well done you fine fine director, and Noemie Merlant coming through with the MVP performance
i'll have to let the recency effect wear off a bit before i decide if it's overall a more impactful film to me than Knives Out for 2019 film of the year, and where i will rank it in my 2010s decade list

Have high hopes for that one. Can't possibly believe Les Miserables is better, and I don't know why France chose that one.
Probably thought it had a chance because the whole police violence going on in US constantly and how it offers a perspective on that.
It wasn't really great though.

Watched 1917
Pretty good film but it felt like watching a long cut scene in a call of duty game lol. Set piece after set piece. Some absolutely incredible plot armour throughout the film.
Mate absolutely loved it though.
Not a war film guy so i suppose i was never gonna love it. But it's good. Technically excellent. Specially the last 30 minutes.

Can’t believe 1917 is gonna win best picture.
It’s so incredible that the Academy keeps voting for one of the worst options. And the voters don’t even watch all nominees.
Gotta admit they’re great at picking films no one will remember a week after the ceremony

Yeah, it’s not better than Joker. It’s not better than any of the nominees I’ve seen so far.
Parasite is the movie that will 100% be talked about as the movie that should’ve won. That much is obvious to me, which is why I’m so tired of them giving the “wrong” movie the award because they think it’s “important”.
It’s certain. Old people love war movies. And 50% of the academy is old white men. Nothing screams old white men as award winners. Only pick that disputes this is the Moonlight win, and that happened right as the Oscars so White controversy was happening. It’s hard to explain how they actually got one right.
Also Sam Mendes doesn’t deserve best director for letting Deakins do all the camera work. He’s a theatre director and it wouldn’t suprise me if he didn’t know how to turn on a camera. So it’s weird to give him an award that is only praised because of the camera’s movement.
Still not worse than Renee Zelwegger winning best Actress... absolutely terrible

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
I have 5 movies ranked higher than 1917 this year. Two of them weren't even nominated. Knives Out is my favorite film of the year, it's not getting any award love, unfortunately.
Of the others I had Parasite, Joker, and OUATIH all rated higher than 1917. I would rather any of these win than 1917.

Parasite is brilliant, though I felt the ending dragged it is absolutely one of the best films of the year and for the best South Korean film of the last decade. You are doing yourself a disservice if you don't watch it because its foreign.
Some of the shots were so gorgeous ffs, had to rewind a lot.

Stephen King has acknowledged the Oscars are "rigged in the favour of white people" after coming under fire for previous comments about diversity.

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
Watched Jojo Rabbit. Fine little movie, definitely Taika's worst though. Still like it better than 1917, both are war movies, but at least this one had something to say.
Also feels weird that the satire about Nazis featured the German characters that were the lesser caricatures as opposed to the ones in a WWI film.
If I were a voter my ballot would look like this:
1. OUATIH
2. Parasite
3. Marriage Story
4. The Irishman
5. Joker
6. Jojo Rabbit
7. 1917
Still haven't seen Little Women and Ford v. Ferrari sadly.

OUATIH at the top?
I know people rate it...idk, perhaps I need to watch it again. As I mentioned probably just a couple pages ago, it didn't really grip me. It just dragged on in parts.
I still enjoyed it. But I found my lack of enthusiasm odd because I'm usually the type to really enjoy slow movies. I even knew it would be slower going into it

Well, I watched it four times in the cinema. I just love everything about it. One of my all time favourites at this point.

like i said on twitter, it's 2020, who the hell is still getting hyped over a Fast & Furious film.
You already know F10 is going to be a fatal fourway - Vin Diesel vs The Rock vs John Cena vs Jason Statham

As far as 8th sequels go, that trailer isn't bad at all. That movie actually looks watchable.
Good to see Sung Kang return. I guess either Crisis or the Thanos snap exists in the F&F universe too.
