exactly 7.3 isn't far off 7.8

Filmmaking is a team job, so i never get when people use that argument against Nolan.

Lots of the younger generation are finally starting to see the light on the Dark Knight Rises and it's making me so happy. It's gone through a cultural reappreciation in recent years. Always knew it was the shit!

IMDB comparison was in context to this, to which the average viewers clearly loved it more.

7.3 to 7.8 on the scale of the votes is actually huge. Many 7.3 films on there, very few 7.8 films.

TDKR initially I didn't like at all.

Recent viewing of it via big screen I tremendously enjoyed it and saw it as brilliant. I can't see the new trilogy holding a candle to Nolan's.

Cillian Murphy is world class and seeing him in such a starring role is odd but he will knock it out. Teaser sent a chill down me spine.

I kind of liked Tenet it just bothered me that I didn't understand it. When I really think about it I do understand it, but as things happen in the moment I don't unless I think about it, which isn't ideal in a movie tbh.

Maybe I'm just stupid.

A shame for most ppl that they didnt seem to understand it on first viewing, dunno why but I read many was due to Nolan making the sound/music too loud and conversations volume too low so it was near impossible to ppl to know whats gonig on first time round. I also had to rewatch n look online for explanations b4 I fully appreciate Tenet which was masterpiece Razz

Just saw Three Thousand Years of Longing, no idea what it was about just the way I like to avoid knowing much b4 seeing movies cos otherwise it could spoil the experience with too much anticipation or just knowing too much in advance. Definitely love it and one of my favs already Very Happy Never understood the hype with George Miller/Fury Road although I thought it was amazing movie, anyway, I definitely appreciate him now. What a movie he made at the age of like 76ish.

ehh I didn't like it... I don't like when Paul Thomas Anderson does unconventional non-narrative films (Licorice Pizza, Inherent Vice). There Will Be Blood, The Master and Phantom Thread is more my cup of tea. I used to like Magnolia too, but recently tried to watch it again and couldn't finish it.

My rankings for the year. Haven't seen a lot of stuff but among what I saw, this is my ranking for now.

So I have a made up, dumb, arbitrary scoring system. Getting into the 8s and above is a big deal. I usually rate a lot of films between 7.5-7.9 which is kind of like good flicks but not really great.

2022 Films
Thirteen Lives - 8.4
Top Gun: Maverick - 8.4
Cha Cha real Smooth - 8.3
Barbarian - 8.2
The Batman - 8.2
The Outfit - 8.1
Bullet Train - 8.0
Fresh - 8.0
Three Thousand Years of Longing - 8.0
--------
Nope - 7.9
Watcher - 7.9
The Black Phone (2021) - 7.9
The Northman - 7.9
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness - 7.9

8.5 or above is really where start I rating incredible films. So nothing has really captured me like that this year, I don't think.

For reference for 2020s (only 3 films broke the 8.5 barrier so far):

2021 Films:
Dune - 9.0
The Last Duel - 8.5

Nightmare Alley - 8.3
Belfast - 8.3
CODA - 8.2
Oxygen - 8.1
Zack Snyder’s Justice League - 8.1
Last night in Soho - 8.0
Judas and the Black Messiah - 8.0
No Sudden Move - 8.0

2020 Films:
The Father - 8.6
Sound of Metal - 8.4
Promising Young Woman - 8.3
Emma - 8.1
Tenet - 8.0
The Trial of the Chicago 7 - 8.0

2019 alone had 6 movies break the 8.5 barrier for me haha. What a year for film that was.

Yeah I found the Northman super disappointing. I was hyped for it, and I just didn't love it. It was enjoyable enough. It's not a bad film at all, but I thought I'd get more from it than I did.

Triangle of Sadness - 8.3

Saw it this week. Fantastic film. Went into it completely blind so had no idea what it was about and it kept going in directions I did not suspect at all till the final 3rd. Really unique, original, film.

Same. I think I might've enjoyed it more had I not been aware of the hype. But my expectations for it were really high and it didn't live up. Well produced, decent flick, and I can even see why other people love it but just nothing spectacular for me.

I think it also didn't help I was binging The Last Kingdom when I saw this and their portrayal of Vikings and Danes made The Northman really unspectacular.

Watched so many films recently. Actually managed to complete my Nolan collection too.

The prestige - finally understood why this film has always been so hyped. Unbelievable film. Also Nolan really peaked around TDKR/Interstellar. You can see the difference between his peak year films and his recent decline.
9/10

Memento - what a unique film. Great direction. Top stuff.
8.5/10

Now you see me - 6.8/10
Now you see me 2 - 7/10

Nerve - 6/10
The purge 2021 - 5.9/10
The purge 2019 - 5.8/10

Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind - man this film was a lot more than I expected. Also quite deep if you think about it. How good is Jim Carrey in serious roles? 8/10

Smile 2022 - was a funny film. Tried to copy the ring in some ways 6.5/10

The platform - really liked this one. Thought it was quite provocative and excellent usage of symbolism. Indepth and you have to watch it once in your life. 8/10

The hunger games 1 - 7.3/10
The hunger games 2 - 7/10
The hunger games 3 part 1 - 6.5/10

The Accountant - not bad. Good entertainment. 7/10

The fracture - Anthony Hopkins is such a good actor. Specially when he is performing a Hannibal kinda role. Ryan gosling good too. Quite a good film. 7.3/10

Watched all of Daniel Craig's bond run

Casino Royale - 8/10
Quantum of solace - 7.4/10
Skyfall - 8.2/10
Spectre - 6.8/10
No time to die - 7.5/10

Drive - great film. Thought Ryan gosling was fantastic. Was getting taxi driver vibes at times from the atmosphere. Enjoyed this 8.3/10

500 days of summer - pretty good. 7.5/10

Escape room - decent watch - 6/10
Escape room 2 - 6/10

Inception is one of my favorite movies of all time. I really think it's a masterpiece. It blew my mind in the cinema first time watching, and it was such an event film. I remember what a big deal it was and virtually every one and their mother was talking about it when it came out. I think other than Avenger movies and Force Awakens the biggest event films in the past 12/13 years are still Avatar and Inception. The re-watchability factor is also magnificent.

Inception - 9.5
The Prestige - 9.0
The Dark Knight - 8.9
Interstellar - 8.9
Batman Begins - 8.5
Dunkirk - 8.3
The Dark Knight Rises - 8.2
Insomnia - 8.0
Tenet - 8.0

Memento - I'll refrain from ranking or grading as it's been 10+ years since I've seen it. Will have to rewatch for accurate ranking.

Casino Royale - 8.5 - GOAT Bond film for me. I love everything about this movie.
Skyfall - 8.2 - maybe GOAT Bond song, great movie.
Quantum of Solace - 7.0 - meh.
Spectre - N/A couldn't even finish, it was that much of a boring non-factor. Story was garbage and hardly even edited properly.

Haven't seen No Time to Die.

I'm super big on the first 2 Hunger Game movies. Fantastic dystopian films imo. 3 is just garbage though. 4 is better than 3 but still average.

The Hunger Games - 8.3
Catching Fire - 8.2
Mockingjay Part I - 6.5
Mockingjay Part II - 7.0
