Lion King remake: A+

Just amazing. It's like watching those BBC documentaries, even the talking animations are somehow realistic. They kept almost everything from the original film except a few modified dialogs. Funny how i remember so much from a film last seen 15 years ago.

35 mins into Everything Everywhere All at Once.... aaaannd what is this?
Feels like a cartoonish spin-off of the multiverse superhero subgenre. Everything is mediocre, from the action to the sci-fi gadgets Laughing and what's with the fast pace and the caricature characters? unbelievable... beginning to trust mainstream culture's film ratings less and less. I guess all it takes these days is "insert inclusivity", attach it to a red-hot studio like A24, and boom the ratings will come in.

Very much made with the Knives Out crowd in mind.

I'm not much of a fan of whodunits, but this one looks worth a watch.

100%. Is it too late to become a fighter pilot and join top gun?

Basically a perfect sequel to a movie made decades earlier in a sense. Its just enough of a sequel and a remake to pull off being a great blockbuster without relying solely on nostalgia. Tom Cruise is a despicable person but an incredible filmmaker.

More excited for Oppenheimer than Ive been excited for any Nolan film. Glad he didn't go for another inception re-do cause Tenet just plain sucked.

Cillian Murphy is world class and seeing him in such a starring role is odd but he will knock it out. Teaser sent a chill down me spine.

Nope is Jordan Peele's weakest film to date
Rating: 3/5
Review:

As Jordan Peele's interest for spectacle increases, it seems his care for narrative substance decreases. Here are some of my main problems:
- Little depth to characters that are merely coloured with simple washaway comedy traits
- Invasive narrative interludes and flashbacks that just really throw you off instead of adding to the horror mystique
- The chapters, because why?
- Too much allegorical posturing just like the end of Us (2019), instead of focusing more on simple tradeoff beats to make all the important moments in the film land

first time i've heard of All Quiet on the Western Front... i've been numb to war movies for a while now, so can't say i'm hyped. Last decent war movie i recall was Hacksaw Ridge.

I'm assuming you're not an avid book reader as most people have read All Quiet on the Western Front at some point in their life, the book is consistently considered the greatest war novel ever written, It is taught in school and pretty much beloved by everyone who has read it.

I kind of liked Tenet it just bothered me that I didn't understand it. When I really think about it I do understand it, but as things happen in the moment I don't unless I think about it, which isn't ideal in a movie tbh.

Maybe I'm just stupid.

Nothing to do with stupidity.

Tenet was trash. It was complex for the sake of it and zero substance to it bar its very good cast to which they barely made use of.

Nolan in general is a bit overrated despite some world class hits as his best films are his more understated ones from Prestige to yes, even Dunkirk.

Oppenheimer ist exactly what I feel he needed to do not another sci-fi rehash of huge scale, but character driven and on the highly rated Cillian Murphy.

Tenet was good. Not tier 1 Nolan, but certainly not trash and definitely better than the pretentious shit that was Dunkirk. Nolan is the best and most consistent director overall of the 2000s.

Calling Dunkirk pretentious when Tenet came across as arrogant and pretentious as it did makes little sense. Dunkirk is critically acclaimed heavily and was a brilliant retelling from the British perspective of the Great War. Tenet relied on a lot of bells and whistles for it to come together as the product it did, to which was underwhelming as a whole and a poor restructuring of Inception.

Nolan being called the best when there are men like Denis Villeneuve and so forth also makes little sense.

That being said I sincerely hope Oppenheimer hits all time critical success for him. Very much looking forward to it.

Nolan has more to his resume than Villeneuve, Villeneuve needs to stack up a bit more before he can overtake him imo. He definitely has the quality and vision though to do so. And we probably already saw the best of Nolan from Memento to Interstellar.

also you say that as if Tenet was shitted on critically... they're two very different movies. Just because a few old white Academy members loved the WW2 propaganda doesn't mean your average viewer enjoyed it. In fact, i remember initial reviews being very divisive for Dunkirk.

My Nolan tiers:
Tier 1:
Inception
Memento
Batman Begins
The Dark Knight Rises
Interstellar

Tier 2:
The Prestige
The Dark Knight
Tenet
Insomnia

Tier 3:
Dunkirk

You rating Prestige and Insomnia that low comparatively to the rest tells me we just won't agree on this.

More so Dark Knight in Tier 2 whereas the weakest of the 3 in the trilogy in Tier 2 is a baffling choice.

Fact about Nolan is that a lot of his fellow team are also who do the best work in which they are not credited for from his editor to Jonathan Nolan who creates most of the stories.
Vilenueve on a technical level is just a more balanced director who doesn't rely on the gimmicks that Nolan is prone to.

And we are speaking of viewer ratings.

Tenet has 7.3 on IMDB

Dunkirk has 7.8. Which is an elite rating.

IMDB ratings you must admit are very reliable rankings in that sense given its the largest film source and of ratings.

You and I just like different types of Nolan films if we notice our differences so mostly subjective films.

exactly 7.3 isn't far off 7.8

Filmmaking is a team job, so i never get when people use that argument against Nolan.

Lots of the younger generation are finally starting to see the light on the Dark Knight Rises and it's making me so happy. It's gone through a cultural reappreciation in recent years. Always knew it was the shit!
