Re: Arsenal Vs Aston Villa
Xhaka has been one of the most fraudulent players in the PL for a couple seasons now. He should have been sold not just this summer but the summer before this one. Dude has absolutely no business playing with a team better than like, a Crystal Palace.

Our statergy should be to score 1 more goal than the opponents. The way Sokratis was shouting to send the ball forward rather than back from a throw in at the end says alot about the mentality and the confidence that the team has at the moment.

I might go as far as saying Mustafi is a better option than our current CB. Sokratis and Luiz together is like Squilachi and Silvestre combo, everytime opponents run at them, we're on the verge of being schooled.

Re: Arsenal Vs Aston Villa
you could easily see the energy and drive in the midfield when xhaka was subbed off. Arsenal improved easily. To be honest i would never want to see arsenal play xhaka again. Emery played him further up the field and he was not making himself available for a pass not contributing anything, he drops off does not put pressure on the opponents a midfielder should be doing.
Luiz has been same a liability of arsenal. he keeps dropping off. Sokartis and Luiz is simply not working together. that needs to change as well.
Going forward i think the best midfield for arsenal currently is
Willock Torreria Cebelos
Willock Torreria Guedonzi
Willock Guedonzi Cebelos

I‘ve been saying this for a long time. We have great attacking players, why not use them at their full capacity? Play an attacking game and the defenders will have less time to mess up, so it even improves our defence a bit. But Emery is not capable of playing such a game, or doesn‘t want to.

i was just about to post in this thread that if anything this proves urban's long-standing theory right that the best form of defense for this team, is to go all out attack.

I hoped Emery could add a good defensive structure to the team with time, but he's clearly incapable of that, so screw it, might as well go all-out attack from now on.
He won't, though. He doesn't have the courage to play that way.

Re: Arsenal Vs Aston Villa
honestly though for any reasonably-minded timid tactical manager such as Emery who wants to stay long term, it wouldn't make sense to play like that. Preferably, he would like to continue trying to implement his style of slow, lateral passing, building gradually into attacks. But we all know that is just torture to watch, and is more likely to lead to a misplaced pass where our defense ends up in trouble.
We all can see the patterns, but Emery would not want to.

Re: Arsenal Vs Aston Villa
He has a remit of playing attacking football, but in practice, this conflicts with his preferred way of playing.
If we're being completely fair, it's tricky for him because the club has given him three strikers who have to start when fit because they're the most talented guys in the squad, but he doesn't want to play that way. He's always been a one striker manager, with either midfielders or wingers supporting him.
On the other hand, his failure thus far to adapt to what he has and work out a coherent system is showing up his faults as a coach.
Right now, Arsenal are setting-up like an old-school mid-table team who used to relieve their attackers of defensive responsibility. Don't want Auba/Pepe/Laca/whoever crossing the half-way line when the team doesn't have the ball? Fine, but this is the era of high blocks and intense pressing. The solution is starting him right in the face yet apparently pressing has never been a major part of Emery's plans and the team hasn't worked on it much in training. Or so I've heard.

Re: Arsenal Vs Aston Villa
Emery got bailed out by individual players, his tactics and line up were wrong again.
Taking Xhaka off immediately improved the squad from being a man and clown down to being even.
