Re: "The Gentleman's game"- Cricket
How the umpire didn't give that Lyon LBW I have no idea. Australia were unlucky despite wasting their final review.
As far Ashes moments I've seen, this has topped Panesar/Anderson blocking out a day at Cardiff and Brett Lee gloving in 2005.

Umpire was in severe pressure lol. Biggest decision of his career. I think even he was team stokes there.
Also i can understand why Australia took the Leach review earlier. They must have thought this is it and there won't be another one again so close to the game. But yea it looked clear out.

Re: "The Gentleman's game"- Cricket
The pressure of Test cricket is nuts. That LBW review, the Stokes decision, Lyon fumbling a run-out, etc. Don't think there's anything like it in sports.
Leach contributed 1 run to a partnership of 76. Probably the most important run of the whole partnership though.

Can you imagine what must be going into Stokes' head the entire time? Seeing teammates going one after another and then to make 70 odd runs with just 1 wicket left.
That takes some incredible mentality. He has definitely surpassed Flintoff (overrated career imo).
I hope this is enough for england to win the next test.

Steve Smith might just be the greatest batsmen I have ever watched in test cricket
Not the most aesthetically pleasing but unreal determination and will to succeed.
Absolute alpha. This is quite an emphatic comeback after what he went through last year. 3 hundreds and a 90 in 4 innings ffs. Close to getting his double hundred too.
This is unprecedented stuff

Re: "The Gentleman's game"- Cricket
I gave up when Burns and Root got out last night. England's only hope now is rain.
Burns has done enough to keep his spot at the top of the innings, and that 50 from Denly in the last test has given him a stay of execution, but Roy looks hopeless.
Oh well. Headingly was a fun memory, and maybe they'll at least draw the series by winning at the Oval.
I'm all about Essex at the moment. Somehow scraped into the T20 Blast quarter-finals, then somehow knocked out the favourites Lancashire to get into finals day. Ravi Bopara is rolling back the years and winning them games.
They're also top of the County Championship with three matches left. Final match away to Somerset, who only are two points behind in second.

Starc back in the lineup, it's over for England.
I would put an additional 150 on the board quickly if I was them

Re: "The Gentleman's game"- Cricket
It feels like Smith just killed any momentum we had after Headingly. His innings sucked everything out of these players. More like back to reality.
I am a huge Roy fan in ODI but he doesn't belong here. There really really have to be some test cricketers in county we can try. I suppose Ashes isn't where you experiment but it feels like England are playing 3-4 fewer cricketers compared to Australia.
In any case I hope Oval is better than this but i doubt it.
I watched the highlights for Essex Vs Lancashire. It was a fluke imo. Absolutely no idea how Bopara didn't get out with some of his shots also i think 3 people came to watch that.
Saqib Mahmood is a decent talent btw for Lancashire. Maybe one to try in international cricket at some point.

Re: "The Gentleman's game"- Cricket
Dom Sibly from Worcestershire and Zak Crawley from Kent will get chances in the next series I reckon. Maybe Ben Foakes comes back in, too, since Buttler has hardly scored anything.
At least the bowling looks okay. Archer just needs more experience. Sam Curran hasn't been used once this series, which is surprising since he's left-handed and we haven't tried that against Smith yet.

Re: "The Gentleman's game"- Cricket
Ben Foakes sounds like a PES version of Ben Stokes ffs
I don't know what would work on Smith at this point. His supposed weakness was left armed spinners and Leach has failed to do anything against him. Maybe he just doesn't have a weakness and we need to rely on him making a mistake.
Or the best tactic is to get everyone else out other than him lol
There has to be some changes in the last match if Aus wins this one.
