Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
He will improve our build up a lot
But i dont rate him defensively
He just dives in to challenges and isnt anything special physically in terms of pace/power/aerial ability
Much like Onana emphasis seems to be on technical abilty than special skillset for the role GK/CB

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Arsenal are considering a move for James Maddison.
— Chris Wheatley (@ChrisWheatley_) June 16, 2021
As @AdrianJKajumba & others have reported, fee would be in excess of £60m.
Those close to the player claim he's 'top of the list' for #AFC this summer.https://t.co/K9s3496CbM https://t.co/wOcTmrvOBR

Arsenal moving closer to agreement with Brighton for Ben White. #BHAFC want guaranteed ~£50m, #AFC offering ~£45m + £5m. Face-to-face talks have taken place & negotiations continue over add-ons, payment structure etc. No other bidders yet @TheAthleticUK https://t.co/x9fJEUSMZ3

Lokonga is close too, apparently.
Still need a right back, left back, one more midfielder, and an AM.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
White excels as an aggressive defender playing in high defensive lines stepping out to make interceptions. This, along with his passing and ability to bring the ball out of defence, made him a valuable player for Leeds in their promotion season. Bielsa loved him and he was one of the best players in the Championship that season.
His role at Brighton, as a right centre back in a three, was slightly different.
Arsenal want to play a high block against the ball and to do that they need defenders like White. Gabriel was already one half of this equation, now it seems we're getting the second half. Holding and Mari are different types, excelling more in the penalty area when they can block shots and compete in the air. There were times last season when both of them where reluctant to step-up which hurt our ability to win the ball back in higher parts of the pitch.
The concern will be, both White and Gabriel are young defenders (both 23) and a similar type. Two aggressive centre backs could lead to problems if both go at the same time. Aerially it's not the strongest partnership, either. Aerial duels are a weakness for White and Gabriel, while strong in the air, isn't the tallest.
So while the price is outrageous, I see the logic behind the transfer.

Partey is already there as a midfielder to drop back and help and Ben White addition improves our early build up quite a lot

Ahh. Imagine having two Vermaelens.
I actually really like this transfer. But it seems like we are most definitely going to be playing 3 at the back because White-Gabriel doesn't seem ideal. Holding-White could work. I wonder if that is Arteta's intention if he is to play 4-3-3 because he seemed to bench Gabriel a lot towards the end of last season. Even preferred Mari over him.

Looks like my Football Manager shortlist. Every deal paid over 48 month instalments, of course.

No. But they are working on a Lokonga replacement. Lokonga to Arsenal is just a matter of time.

No idea who this kristoff terror guy is but he has been quite confident of Lokonga to Arsenal.
Bellerin heavily linked to Villarreal, Inter Milan and Juventus today. Looks like he is definitely gone.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Ben White is joining us from a team that had a worse defensive record than we did last season.
I agree the price is too much but this means very little. White is not solely responsible for Brighton's defence.
Also, looking at pure goals conceded doesn't give you a complete picture of a team's defensive record. Brighton's xGA last season was 39.91 while Arsenal's was 43.23. So last season they gave up fewer high quality chances than Arsenal did.
