Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
I would guess there are more of the senior players that would jump at the option to leave instead of spending the latter years of their career at a mid-table club fighting to get back to European competition. Especially since from what I see the club seems to lack a plan.

Leno and Bellerin want to leave anyway.
Not a single player out of that list will be missed. Maybe bellerin for nostalgic value but rest can leave.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
So (assuming Luiz leaves too) we'd be left with
GK: Runarsson
RB: Chambers, Cedric
CB: Gabriel, Holding, Mari, Saliba
LB: Tierney
CM: Xhaka, Elneny, Partey
AM: ESR, Willock
LW: Saka, Martinelli
RW: Pepe, Willian, Nelson
ST: Auba, Laca, Nketiah, Balogun
Also, not counting that Laca needs to be sold or have his contract extended. We won't need as deep a squad without European football but this is not a group that inspires confidence

Obviously Runnarsson is not good enough although I'd still be surprised if Leno is allowed to leave.
RB is probably covered enough if Bellerin does leave and that's probably one we can afford to let go to trim down the squad.
Should keep Luiz and get rid of Rob "mid-table quality" Holding. Is Gabriel and Mari playing together really out of the question?
Obviously a LB cover for Tierney. Although I liked Saka playing there, Saka deserves to play higher up and not be punished for his versatility.
I doubt Willock is coming back.
Don't rate Nelson or Nketiah.
One of Aubu or Laca has to go given they both play their best as ST, and hopefully Balogun becomes this amazing player everyone rates him to be.
Martinelli didn't have a great game as ST but still has a lot to offer as winger.
The reality is we are a mid table team with no European football. The squad needs to be trimmed down and refined. Without the "distractions" of European football we should be able to be more focused on the league. There is no reason why we can't do a Chelsea and go from 10th to

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Leno or Bellerin want to leave is more of them not willing to miss out European football, leaving might not be on their mind at the beginning of this season. I fear others might feel the same. Our core is so thin, it will requires some precise purchase to really level up our squad, the kinds of purchase I don't think Arteta or Edu are capable of. I honestly have no idea how the club gonna operate this summer window, we all witnessed how rigid Arteta has been, getting the wrong players might just be a repeat of this year performance on the pitch.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
The only thing I am intrested in is how much money we can make out of those players in sales.
The absolute worst case scenario would be Kroenkes deciding to sell the club and consequently not investing in the squad over the summer.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Selling Martinez was the obvious move at the time. You can't really turn down £20m for a keeper you're unconvinced is your no. 1. Leno was first choice and there was no indication he wanted to go before the season blew up. Even now I don't see much difference in quality between them besides Martinez's superior distribution.
As for the rest, the club are banking on raising funds from their sales but this market is even worse than last summer's after clubs have gone a whole season without fans. It's going to be a loan market. Nor does it help that some of the players we want out have lost value by being out of the team or by playing poorly.
I think Arsenal's focus should be adding quality to the first eleven because squad depth next season isn't as important without Europe. Keeper, right back, central midfield, attacking midfield and then striker if Lacazette leaves. Backup left back as well. So a minimum of 5/6 new additions needed.

Except that Arsenal had their best spell of the last years when Leno was injured and Martinez was starting. Everyone could see the improvement all over the backline and I remember that at the least RG and me were saying Leno should be sold instead

Ryan Bertrand available now. Ticks all boxes that we usually look for.
Looking for last big contract. TICK
Free agent TICK
Will command large wages. TICK.
But him being free, English, Backup LB will be really hard to look away.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
There are other rumblings of discontent. Staff are under the impression that at least five senior players — David Luiz, Willian, Bernd Leno, Granit Xhaka and Hector Bellerin — want to leave the club.

Opinions on the Willock situation?
We're sorely lacking a goal-scoring threat from midfield, which he's proven capable of providing.
On the other hand, we can't turn our noses at 20m+ pounds for an academy player with 2 years left on his deal.

His time at Newcastle has been productive but my opinion on his overall game hasn't changed. Decent physicality and movement into the penalty area but struggles to get on the ball and has average technique. He has to play a specific role that allows him to get into the box and get shots away, much like Dele Alli at Spurs. And, well, we saw how he turned out when he was asked to do more than that.
In any other summer you could maybe give him a chance until January, but at the moment if Newcastle or any PL team bid 20-30m for him we'd have to take it.

That's a fair take and I lean that way too. I do think he's taken another step in terms of his movement and ball carrying. Could be uber confidence from this great patch of form he's in which would make selling him an even more attractive prospect.
But on the other hand, midfield goals are a real premium. We'll have to see who's on the transfer wish list this summer.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
We should only sell Willock if we are planning to buy someone who can give us goals from midfield. We have to consider that in half a season he alone has scored more league goals than all of our squad midfield (Partey, Xhaka, Ceballos, Elneny, Ødegaard, ESR) *combined* in full season. Although we have to consider that Arteta is an ultra defensive coach who doesnt allow free roles or progressive runners from midfield until we are losing the game. Also the direction in which we are going it will be almost impossible to fulfill the HG quota with decent/squad players.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
So far, these are the players we're rumoured to be chasing:
Keeper: David Raya (Brentford), Mat Ryan (Brighton)
Defence: Ryan Bertrand (Southampton), Josh Doig (Hibernian), Tosin Adarabioyo (Fulham)
Midfield: Yves Bissouma (Brighton), Sander Berge (Sheffield United), Eduardo Camavinga (Rennes), Martin Odegaard (Real Madrid), Houssem Aouar (Lyon)
Attack: Moussa Dembele (Lyon), Odsonne Edouard (Celtic)
Current rumours indicate an offer will be made for Bertrand soon (he'll be a free transfer) and Ryan's loan will probably become permanent.
Players rumoured to be leaving/possibly leaving:
Leno
Luiz (confirmed)
Bellerin
Xhaka
Torreira
Guendouzi
Ceballos
Maitland-Niles
Willock
Nelson
Nketiah
Lacazette

Most of them are under 25 years old and shouldn't cost more than 30m with the exception of Odegaard and Aouar. Seems to be an effort to sign young-ish players who can be improved.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
we need to start from the ground up... get young hungry players willing to prove themselves with a decent mix of experience. Why aren't we in for Buendia? Is Auoar still worth it? Bissouma is the prime Xhaka replacement we need.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
If we are looking for cheap options then Donarumma, Calhanoglu bertrand will solve all the problems we are trying to patch up. All are free. All they need is convincing from Edu and Arteta as we dont have european football to offer. Bissouma, Aarons, Buendia, Edouard etc can be bought after getting funds from player sales.
We cant dream of Elite players now until we have champions league. One more thing to consider is that If we are planning to overhaul the squad then we need all the new arrivals to be in the pre-season or next season arteta would be lamenting about lack of cohesion in the squad.
