Partey is a huge statement. I just hope he does what he is good at and we can partəy come the end of the season. Gabriel for me is also a massive signing. His calmness on the ball is typically what a modern CB needs to have and his positioning and game reading ability is very very good.

If we continue playing a 3-4-3 then first choice/second choice should be
..........Leno/Runarsson
Holding/Mustafi, Gabriel/Luiz, Tierney/Mari
Bellerin/Cedric, Ceballos/Xhaka, Partey/Elneny, Saka/AMN

Though he will be getting pretty far up in age by next year, if Luiz maintains his current level of performance, I would keep him. This is perhaps an unpopular opinion based on the high-profile errors he has made throughout his career which for whatever reason, never stop being brought up in conversations about him despite a decade of great performances 99% of the time, but I actually think he's our best defender. Others are doing very well too right now, such as Tierney, Bellerin, and Gabriel, but Luiz's experience and quality in possession have been fundamental to the calmness that our back line has shown under Arteta. If we opt for a younger guy in place of him, we might need to go to market again to properly replace the qualities he brings.

In fairness we have spent over 500m on trash since 2012 so it's not like he is stingy. He is probably just spoilt by Arsene never asking for much and now cautious because all his spending has resulted us in being a EL team.

This is the first time the Kroenke's have gone into their own pocket to undercut a loss on a signing, though. Probably won't become the norm because Partey's transfer was unique since it required a lump-sum payment, but it's a significant show of faith in Arteta and Edu.

Yeah honestly, between fronting the cash for Partey and buying our debt, I feel like Kroenke has really doubled down on the team this summer. I'm starting to think that he actually does care about our success, despite the bad rep he has. Hopefully we can have a strong year to prove to him that continuing to invest in this team is worthwhile.

Either that or like any other mega successful businessmen, Arteta is probably the 1st project that could convince him for such investment.

Think it's a mix of the factors mentioned above + his son running things more directly + KSE not being idiots and knowing investment is the only way to avoid further loss as the Prem gets ridiculously competitive.

Either way, it's welcome, whatever debt-purchasing and financial maneuvering they did technically to make that money available.

Teams are really giving the latter that star treatment,always marked tightly or even multiple players on him
