Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
for the life of me what i don't understand is why does Atleti and Arsenal not just do a straight swap + cash deal, since they apparently want Torreira.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Because A Madrid is similar to us, their squad is bloated so more going out 1st before anyone get in. With how Artera comment about Willock today, looks like he stays. We just can not push anyone out, either our youngsters are not as hot as we think or clubs unwilling to do loan deal paying full wages.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
The Torreira/Atletico situation seems to be:
- Atletico need to offload Hector Herrera first
- They're offering a loan with a purchase option
- Arsenal want guaranteed cash, one way or another
- Arsenal still want Partey and want to include him a deal somehow
- Torreira has already agreed terms with Atletico
There seems to be an appetite from all involved to get the deal done, so I expect it will. Whether that'll include Partey though is up in the air.
Meanwhile, Lyon are working on getting Paqueta from AC Milan. Said to be an Aouar replacement.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
I still dont understand why cant we get Partey specially after Athletico's interest in torriera. If partey's release clause is 45m then we should add money plus torriera. If they want torriera on loan then we can negotiate 20m now and then the torriera fee next year can be reverse engineered into the second partey's installment. Unless partey has rejected us or Athletico are being asses this seems plausible. Signing partey means other two midfielders can move abit forward hopefully giving us what we need in attack.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Atletico don't want to lose Parety. They're demanding his release clause because they're not interested in negotiating a sale and actually want to extend his contract.
They want Torreira to replace Hector Herrera, not Partey.
From their perspective, it makes zero sense to accept Torreira plus some cash for Partey because they'd be losing quality and would have less cash to use for a replacement.
Moreover, they know Arsenal just can't walk up and pay the release clause because they haven't got the funds. Selling Torreira to Italy is no longer possible because he wants to join Atletico + Arsenal are in negotiations for Aouar.
From Arsenal's perspective, it makes little sense to let Torreira leave on loan without an obligatory purchase at the end of it. They need the guarantee of a transfer fee to spend that money this window. But you know Atletico probably aren't keen on giving Arsenal the cash they need to meet Partey's release clause, so... yeah, it's not a simple deal.

well then just sell him to Atletico for the guaranteed cash and then activate Partey's clause
if they don't want to put down the cash for Torreira then they can go fuck themselves

So Lyon rejected the 35 mil offer. How much can you improve on that? Wasn't City interested in him too?RealGunner wrote:well at least he didn't reject us lol

Probably 40m next. Lyon really need the money so they will take it unless someone comes in for 60m

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
would you guys be fond of a Hudson-Odoi - Guendouzi swap?
i would, i think CHO has more promise than someone like Willock, so it could be an upgrade
while at the same time we'll be sending someone who is bound to stir up a bit of attitude trouble to Chelsea

Chelsea's midfielders are better than Guendouzi. Not sure why they would entertain a swap.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
I really think our midfield problems will be solved once Xhaka is replaced. He is someone who could be replaced by partey or DM to do the defensive work which would help the second midfielder to move up between the lines but Xhaka has his deficiencies which leads manager to not let him be alone in the centre of the park, hence a midfielder is required to stay a bit further back (like elneny) or ceballos is deployed deep when played alongside Xhaka.
Prime example was liverpool on monday when ceballos was paired in the midfield with a DM he can dictate the play but with Xhaka he has to play like an RDM with Xhaka being LDM.

if Xhaka had Spanish genes in him he'd be a complete midfielder

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Yeah I’m not having that at all. Xhaka is often scapegoated but he’s one of the first names on the team sheet for a reason. He’s consistent, a great passer, competes defensively and controls the midfield overall. You can argue that new signings could force him out of the XI and I’m certainly okay with us bringing in that level of quality, but he’s a good player, not a major weakness to us.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
i never said he was weak, but certainly is not a complete midfielder that's all i was hinting at, did you see his performance vs Pool
he's greatest qualities is his forward-playing vision and passing, but his pace and agility are his greatest downfall

This only happens against teams that dont press. He is a great passer but not a progressive one. He completed a total of 4 through balls last season with just 1 big chance created last season (as per premier league stats). So his midfield control is not great as well. If you observe our matches closely we do not have an effective midfield. He does have 5 or 6 amazing games in a season and 5 or 6 meh games as well. This is not finding a scapegoat, this is being realistic based on stats.
In the previous game. Xhaka ceballos was a straight swap no positional change but the pattern of passing by both personel was very evident.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
If a team presses Xhaka's right side he struggles. Because he's so one-footed he's always looking to turn clockwise and rarely anti-clockwise which greatly limits him against a high press. This was why Ceballos was often the one to collect deep off the centre backs while Xhaka played a little further up.
Granted, I don't think it's as simple as "take Xhaka out and it'll be better" but if Arsenal can find a pressure-resistant midfielder who can also defend they should absolutely get him because Xhaka's not that guy.
In terms of priorities though you can use Xhaka just fine for a year while accepting he's not suitable for every type of game. But you can't go a whole season without a creative player and expect to do well. In other words, Aouar > Partey atm.

Xhaka's through are usually backward to our center backs or Leno

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Deadline is on Monday and things are getting dicey.
Aouar:
- Arsenal have had bids rejected. Lyon have named their price of around 45m-50m.
- Aulas wants the deal done by Friday.
- Latest reports suggest PSG are in for him now. They can't get him outright but could offer a loan with an obligatory purchase a la Mbappe.
Partey:
- Nothing.
Torreira:
- Loan to Atletico is going through. Seems it'll be an optional fee at the end of it.
- One report suggested that optional fee could be become an obligation under certain conditions but we'll see.
Kolasinac:
- Said to be close to Leverkusen for about 10m despite playing tonight.
Guendouzi:
- Could go to Marseille on loan.
Mustafi:
- Was being linked with a 13m move to Lazio but nothing has materialised yet.
Sokratis:
- No longer joining Napoli. Has other offers.
Nelson:
- Could go on loan to a PL team. Brighton, Palace and Southampton interested.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Saliba could be joining Rennes on loan.
Arteta talked about him needing a "transitional year". He was supposed to have it last season but injuries and Covid curtailed that.
I can only assume they don't think he's ready for the PL yet.
