Re: 2019 Women's World Cup
Apparently the Cameroon players don't know how offside works. They're mad because Parris was offside when Bronze played the ball through, but Parris wasn't interfering with play at all

Re: 2019 Women's World Cup
I have more sympathy for that one. She's not trying to gain an unfair advantage, but her foot is offside, so the decision is correct.
I think offside is fucked if we're ruling out goals for that, tbh.

Meanwhile England are making hard work of this, just as I thought they would.

Re: 2019 Women's World Cup
While I completely support this form of VAR but its too slow. The players finish their celebrations, we see two replays, teams set up to restart the game from the half line and then you recall even holding 30 seconds after all this.

Now the ref doesn't give England a pen on VAR despite their being contact.
Good thing we're 3-0 up.

I disagree here.
As the commentator put, you cant use it to Re-referee a game, its for checking obvious errors during a goal.

I am disappointed in the ability of these girls to punt balls longer than Carragher yet not beat the first woman on the cross.

Gotta feel for the Cameroonian girls here, but it was always a step too much.

Re: 2019 Women's World Cup
Can't say I feel for them at all. They've spat at our players, elbowed them, and exaggerated contact, and that's before the VAR nonsense kicked in.
Thing is, they had chances to hurt England legitimately because we've been super sloppy all game, but they'd rather complain about unjust refereeing decisions than actually play.
They aren't going out proudly. They're going out in disgrace.

ASSUMING the HT fracas was because of emotions and not racism.

Yes, of course. If racism was involved it changes the whole thing.

Well thats your nation so of course you wont...rightfully so
The difference is being physical means you respect them more though. England pulled up because Cameroon made it physical. If they bent over and took it with a smile the way Thailand did against the US then it would have been a slaughter because Cameroon is literally a two person team, and both those players are a step below of what England had out there.
The ref is why it got out of control.

Re: 2019 Women's World Cup
Physical play isn't throwing elbows and nearly breaking Steph Houghton's leg, though.
Anyway, I agree, the ref was terrible. Let the Cameroon players "protest" without any booking, didn't punish their elbows, didn't send off the player for a bad tackle at the end, didn't give England a penalty despite going to the monitor (so was past the "clear and obvious" part otherwise she wouldn't have needed to check it), probably missed some England fouls, too.
Women's football is improving all the time, but if this tournament is anything to go by, the referees are still lagging behind.

Re: 2019 Women's World Cup
Haven't got the clips but do have a quote:
“It didn’t feel like football. This is going out worldwide. Young girls are watching that. I can’t stand here and say that’s right. There’s a certain standard of behaviour. Ellen White was onside. Deal with it. Their behaviour was wrong”. Phil Neville. #CMR #ENG #FIFAWWC

Physicality is thuggish. Any time you impose yourself physically is thuggish behavior.

It was a bit of the dark arts for sure, but physicality got in Englands head big time. When cameroon girl was crying on the sideline, and then as soon as the match restarted England gifting them a goal opportunity(which cameroon missed because they are shiite) was proof of that.
I think a ref has to be strong from the start. I dont think she really knew what to do at half time. Afterwards was just it boiling over.

Physicality is not thuggish.
Case in point, Herrera from United. He's a thug not physical.
Just seen Neville's post match. He laid into Cameroon and for the moment rightly so.

Herrera is a huge thug. Dude will try to get you booked if you even look at him, then gives this most shocked look if he gets called for a foul
