Re: The Pogba War | Chapter II
But Zidane didn’t go to Juve for 100M and ridiculous salary!
I don’t have doubt of him being a good player . I do however question his consistency and motivation.
The point of the criticism is his play / contribution to the team based on his cost!

Fee has absolutely nothing to do with this. He could have cost 100 dollars. The small fee Juve paid actually justifies them not playing Zidane in his best position early on. Man U paying 100 mil to play Pogba out of position is crazy to me.

The fee and salary have everything to do with it. Management and fans expect the fee and salary to be earned in terms of player contribution!

If you paid 100 million for Bale and you put him as a line hugging right-winger and he doesn't perform like he did with the Spurs... then management and fans are morons to expect anything near the same player.
Take a player who played 10/AM his last 2 seasons at Juve with great defensive cover behind him... and put him as a holding mid, DM, even a LWer... fans and management are morons to expect the same player.

Re: The Pogba War | Chapter II
Wrong example. Do you really think Bale has been a success justifying his fee and salary!
I agree some fault lies with club, but there is a huge expectation on these high valued players. You keep ignoring the salary which is equally up there with expectations with the fee, probably more so after a couple of seasons!

His first 3-4 years despite criticism, I thought he was doing fine. He was hugging the right touchline with CR dominating the scoring, yet finding opportunities and taking advantage. He was influential.
By the time CR left and Bale was handed the keys, he was no longer the dynamic player he'd been due to injury, his mentality was gone, his work ethic was questionable, etc. That's on him. He lost the hunger.
Maybe Pogba ends up like Bale if he's given his old role back. That's the risk. But he's on a free transfer. To me, at worse, he's worth the risk even at high wages because he'd still be worth 40-50 mil at least if you needed to buy him today. And I see the same dynamic player with NT. Really dynamic. But again, a risk because it's been a few years with a club who played him haphazardly.

Re: The Pogba War | Chapter II
For once I will agree with you, re RMad possibly signing him on a free transfer. Expectations will depend on his salary, but as long as it fits in the salary ladder with respect to Mbappe, Benzema, etc, I would be ok with that.
However we are taking about ManU fans and their disappointment with him. It is all about expectations vs Fee and salary.
And re Bale, no I don’t agree. He did have some key goals, but he was either invisible or not playing the majority of time. Inconsistency, which is not what you expect for a 100M player plus high salary.

I think Zidane's transfer and salary were really expensive considering the time.

Re: The Pogba War | Chapter II
Bale's issue early on wasn't production per games played... it was games played due to injury. Injuries caused inconsistencies at times because you're always rehabbing, trying to regain form once you return, etc.
Really, Bale's downfall has been injuries. But Madrid already knew that with the Spurs. He was injured a ton with Tottenham too. That wasn't a new thing.

Yeah I think it was 3.5 mil. It was a decent amount back then. French teams were notoriously shitty at selling their players for a good fee back then though.

You guys keep pointing out his excellent play and his proper use, but you don’t talk about his inconsistency, other than excuses. For his price tag, he hasn’t measured up to expectations.
He is a B2B! He's best position is LCM in a three man midfield.
As for his inconsistency, there was almost none of it in the four years at Juve. Sure, after 5 years of United, it's obvious that he doesn't have a pitbull mentality, but if the environment is right and keeps him motivated, then he'll perform.
sportsczy wrote:
When Vidal and Pirlo left, he played the 10/am for Juve because Allegri realized, and rightly so, that Pogba would require to do too much defensively in his system. So he pushed Marchisio back and moved Pogba forward to emphasize Pogba's strengths... his ability to provide chaos as Casci put it.
He didn't play as a 10, he was still a mezzalla, he just had more freedom of movement. He was still doing a lot of tracking back on the left side.

Nah, it was 5 mil and the record at the time was Lentini for about 22

Was Zidane's transfer to Madrid a world record (or near it?)
I think I confused the two.

Was he consistently good for 4 years at Juve? I could've sworn that I read one of your fellow, Juve fans say that he only had one great season at Juve. How old was he when he transferred there from Man United?

Pogba was great for 4 years at Juve. Consistent, dedicated, and very obviously a huge talent. He improved in every season and in the last one was simply incredible.

Man United was his biggest mistake. Idk why he wants to stay so much. If it’s not working, it’s not working, shit happens, move to a new team. Sometimes the environment and the little things aren’t right and you just need a change.

Okay, but he came in at 19 years old, so he obviously needed development. He improved every year, so yeah, he was consistent. The first year wasn't a good one in absolute terms, but it was better than expected for a rookie, he certainly saw the field more than we thought he would. The second and third one were good and the last one, when he was the man, was really great

Come home Pogba, again for free from United
Seriously though, would love to have him back, should have never left. We are desperate for some creativity and talent in the midfield.

I would be quite surprised if there were. Heck, I'm even surprised that Juve is interested. It's like, did they watch him play for the last 5 years?

City are... but Pogba wants to avoid them. Sure PSG will jump in since he's free and several others.
Giving Juve a first shot and then will open things up after NT games is the media rumor.

Pogba's gonna get a rude awakening when he realizes Locatelli, Zakaria and Arthur are not Pirlo, Vidal and Marchisio.
