Yup.
Don't get me wrong, he's obviously a great talent. But just like arq said he was never seen as this great talent because he was an unbeatable defender as that's just not who he was/is. He made mistakes that cost us regularly and that's fine considering he was a teenager (same is true for de Jong btw). In the end it doesn't matter how much money you pay for a teen, you will always get "just" a talent.

Yes, it's a shame with Chiellini's injury he has more pressure on him. Maybe he takes the chance and establishes himself quicker, I'd bet on that.

Another thing is that if he does string shaky performances he should be benched for Demiral who looks ready to take over everything. The idea was for Demiral to replace Chiellini and De Ligt to replace Bonucci in terms of style, eventually.

He is an utter joke.

Of course Barcelona & other top club fans are seething they did not get him as at 20 he has accomplished in performances than most CBs who've had a respected career.

Mentioned in the other thread how seriously Juventus need to be in putting all their cards to keep him.

Bonucci has had a massive effect on him and their partnership is very fun to watch.

Best CB in the world in less than 3 years.

He deserves it for the performances for Ajax and Netherlands last season. Otherwise his performances for Juventus have been lacklustre.

Well Mbappe is under 21 and he's clearly the best player under 21. But he didn't qualify for some reason (I think previous winners can't win again or something strange like that).

No he's not. It's about the best performing player under the age of 21... he's 20. And to put it in perspective, he's scored 34 goals in CY 2019 so far go to go along with 18 assists.

Age wasn't it. He wasn't even nominated. There had to see some other silly rule.

Came back after months injured, started the next 6 games in a row and looks amazing from the get go. Absolutely brilliant defender, this 21yo plays like an elite CB in his prime.

Things are not panning out for him, mistake-prone just like Bonucci, plus he's not well settled in Italy, citing him, complains about not being able to go out due to footballers being worshipped in Italy. Mince mentality.

To be fair, similar to Italy, Holland clearly was a in a group that did not test them well enough but unlike Italy, didn't have much or any match winners on their roster.

De Ligt is fine but that error stinks of his first season in Serie A.
