You're absolutely deluded if you think this is a Sony only thing lol.

Besides not that it matters as it only applies to their store and i never buy from their store anyway.

Why so triggered? Very Happy
Any Sony SoC which is too weak for a PS5 has to be salvaged somehow. XSX has got the same problem. Their solution is to provide the weaker chips to XSS = salvaging. And no, I don't know everything, just that Sony has to recover the hardware costs somehow.

Tbh, the price of next gen games means I'm probably not buying on release anymore.

I'm certainly not going digital only. A cheaper console is nice but being locked into the PS store will be a hefty price to pay. That £90 you save won't go far.

Then you consider how a lot of games need patching, get extra content, dlc etc. Just seems smarter to wait.

There's no advantage going digital only on PS5. Maybe PS6 depending how the future is for digital gaming.

PS Store for PS5 = $70 per games alone is a big reason not to do it.

If you buy games on release then go physical. You get slightly better deals on the games but more importantly resale value.

If you are bargain hunter and willing to wait a 6-12 months for a game to get reduced price, get the digital. Far better deals on PS Store than on physical for older games. And that is including the second-hand market.

Another advantage to going digital is of course you can have a shared account between different consoles. Me, my brother and my cousins have one and between the 4 of us we got most essential titles on release date. €100 shared between the 4 of us would mean €25 each. Very doable. Besides we all live in different time zones so online games are not an issue either because we all play at different times.

Even before the price increase on their storefront it wasn't worth it.

In the UK PSN is currently like £55 for a new game and and if you get it from general retail for like 45 and sometimes less.

That soon adds up, it just isn't worth it.

Sold both of my PS4 controllers (copper, dark steel) now, I could still fetch a good price. I think before release all people will dump their controllers.

Pretty sure many are trying to bulk buy to sell on ebay for twice the amount. Try pre-order asap.

I don't think i got PS4 on release. I got the infamous Destiny bundle lol.

Sony didn't even announce when it will go on pre-order.

Just checked my emails and i had an exclusive invite from thegamecollection in the morning. But out of stock now ffs

Although considering there are 2 months left, i am sure it will come back. Same with most stores.

loads of games that aren't remotely new are the full £59.99 on store as well. Ffs when not on offer you'll come across 4-5 year old cod games for £30+

I'm not going digital only for a lot of reasons

Expensive games

No resale value (Great if you want to smash through a linear short story mode game ASAP but don't want to spend a stupid amount)

Eats your hard drive, you'd end up spending the difference on extra space.

But also importantly especially in the current day... you don't really own it if it's all digital. Look at what happens nowadays with sitcoms and shit getting episodes removed overnight because they're deemed offensive. Would not shock me if games get force retconned in the future.I CBA losing digital GTA 6 content when somebody decides killing hookers with a golf club isn't cool anymore. (Semi srs)

Won't your game update anyway, regardless of a physical copy or digital?

Probably nothing to worry about for a while i'm just being paranoid to future proof my stuff lol. But if it's a digital only copy you might end up booting up your console one day and having some content automatically force changed/removed. Sticking a disc in and playing offline would be a safe bet.

I imagine by the PS6/7 at the latest discs will be a thing of the past anyway unfortunately.

You can actually play the digital games offline too, so long as they're downloaded on your console. Like you said I think digital is the future whether the older gamers like it or not. It was the same with PC gamers, people were against Steam but slowly people adapted and now are fans.

I just hope streaming games (like Stadia) never become a thing. That shit's scary, especially knowing what happened to the streaming industry with exclusives.

Not gonna happen, the graphic card industry would go obsolete if streaming services ever becomes the norm.

sooooooo

how difficult is this thing going to be to get on release, do you think?

already bored of trying to find somewhere reliable I can pre-order the thing, I didn't bother pre-ordering the PS4 at launch thinking I could just get it day 1, foolishly, and spend the next 60 days refreshing daily until I got one from Amazon. Don't really want a repeat of that, you would have thought given there's a global recession going on that less people would be picking one up at launch but it seems that's...optimistic. Reckon if I can't pre-order I'll be waiting months again. ffs.

Just sign up on websites so you can get an alert when stock is available. then put notification on for your emails.

But this looks to be quite difficult to get on release.

So apparently if you install both SM:MM and Demons souls on your PS5, they take up to 20% of your SSD alone...

fair point, will do that later today

SSD/HDD size never was an issue for me, this gen I never had more than 4 games installed at once, always delete single player games when done
