Spanish FA confirm changes to the format of Copa del Rey and Super Cup
The Spanish FA (RFEF) approved changes to the Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup formats for the 2019-20 season and beyond, in a meeting on Monday. The Copa del Rey switches to a single match format, with the exception of the semi-finals, which remain a two-leg tie. Teams involved in the Spanish Super Cup - Barcelona, Valencia, Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid - will not have to participate in the first two rounds of the Copa. The final is on April 18, 2020.
The Spanish Super Cup will change from a match between the league winners and the cup winners to a four-team competition. Both Spanish Cup finalists and the top two in La Liga will participate. If a team is in the cup final and the top two in La Liga, the place would pass down to the next team in the league table.
The Super Cup will take place in January rather than at the start of the season, with the semi-finals on Jan. 8 and 9 and the final on Jan. 12.
- Copa del Rey is single-match format in every round except two-leg semi-finals
- Spanish Super Cup is now four-team competition to be held every Janaury

Re: La Liga 2018/19 Discussion
Just when I'm hoping they scrap super cups, they make the damn thing worse.....but I guess with my team having won 4 league titles since 2004 and 2 cops del rey titles in the same time I shouldn't be one to complain.
Actually no, It includes other teams besides the champs? This is damn ridiculous, does anyone realize athletes are not machines?

why are you complaining when it reduces the amount of games played if anythingtitosantill wrote:Just when I'm hoping they scrap super cups, they make the damn thing worse.....but I guess with my team having won 4 league titles since 2004 and 2 cops del rey titles in the same time I shouldn't be one to complain.

Supercup used to be 2 legged games, now it's still 2 max, or 1 if you lose the semi final
Copa del Rey used to be 2 legged games, now it's just one
Players win, less shitty games against Fuenlabrada

I assume the games leading up to the the semi-final will be disputed on a neutral ground then. So there's a slight chance Madrid and Barça may play in each other's venues without even playing against each other.

Re: La Liga 2018/19 Discussion
So instead of reducing games and load on players, in practice there's now one more tough game to play.
R32 always was B-team oriented, so there's now 9 tough games in Copa and Supercopa instead of 8. Fcking money hungry cantalopes.

Truly hoping Huesca pull out of the bottom of the relegation zone over Rayo and Girona. Would make my week.

Both seem like good moves to me. No reason to have 2-legged Copa del Rey matches.

I would prefer the games be played at the stadium of the lower-positioned team to even things up a bit and promote surprise results (and thus viewership)

Re: La Liga 2018/19 Discussion
i'd like the spanish super cup either scrapped, or just one game between league winner and cup winner (or cup finalist), no need for other teams to be involved in that. my gripe is with the super cup

thats actually good. Big teams can longer take it lightly, give rest to the best players for the first leg and win it back in the 2nd leg. Either you take it seriously or not, why the joke.

I am sure they are trying to increase the number of viewers. I doubt anyone right now cares about this cup.

Good with the Copa, a joke for the Super cup, moving it into Jan ffs, as if the season isnt packed enough already, 4 teams. Its just 4 teams competing for the charity shield? What a joke.

Sevilla lose 0-3 to Leganés at home
Even Caparros can't save this team. Europa League level at best.

Haven't seen the game. Real's result isn't great but it is safe to assume their shape looked good

Re: La Liga 2018/19 Discussion
Highlights of the final match day:
Getafe lose to Barcelona and go to Europa League
Valencia win to get Champions League spot (same points as Getafe but better head to head)
Sevilla also win a Europa League group stage spot.

I'm not in a position to sniff my nose at Bale, honestly.
If he comes, he will improve us, however I'm pretty sure he'll not be coming considering the wages he's on.

Gonna be a loss if Getafe miss out on CL football, truth be told if they made it that far they'd probably go on to win the whole thing, real talk
