Lowkey news dropped earlier today: Ainsley Maitland-Niles has signed a new long-term contract, and will wear the no. 15 shirt next season. Pretty much confirms he's a full-fledged member of the squad now.

Apparently, when Emery gave his interview for the job, Maitland-Niles was one of the players he gave a in-depth dossier for.

Think he could be a very useful player for Emery, especially if he wants us to press more.

Lovely! I am a fan of Ainsley, hope he gets more game time next season than players like Jack (we need to move forward) and come into his own.

Our pre-season friendly against Chelsea has been moved from August 4th to August 1st, and will now be played in Dublin instead of Stockholm. This is due to Chelsea's participation in the Community Shield.

Apparently we're still going to play in Stockholm on the 4th, and are currently arranging for another opponent.

As it stands, we play Atletico on July 26th, PSG on July 28th, Chelsea on August 1st and an unknown team on August 4th. It's looking a very condensed pre-season schedule this year.

We don't have the Emirates cup this year though, right? So no biggie.

So, Italian press seem pretty confident that Ivan Gazidis is going to join AC Milan in some sort of management role (managing director, CEO, take your pick). Apparently, he's buddies with Elliot Management, the group currently running Milan.

Putting aside our personal feelings for Gazidis, this would be a bad move for us purely for the timing. We've just gone through a huge restructure which Gazidis led. All the new guys are still getting settled within their roles. To suddenly lose the man who runs the show day to day would set us back.

The danger here is that a new CEO arrives with a different vision and rips up the structure we just put into place. There's also the question of who would appoint his replacement and what their intentions would be.

Ideally, Gazidis should see his project through to the end, not when things are just starting.
