Hala, stop watching games with your ‘unique’ real madrid bias. They have played very well with the only real noticeable error done by your choice at CM.

I sure didn’t expect this esp. from Luis Enrique, but you have to hand it to him, the team has played well. Possession numbers are as normal but it hasn’t been the tici taca version, much more direct. He said the biggest change he wanted to make is to stop being so predicable. And he has done that in just one week. His lineup and changes have all worked out well except for the one Nacho error.

How bad is Enrique. Playing Cattenacio against freaking England. And then jumping for joy when they escape past England. Terrible coach

Pretty sure what Welbeck does when De Gea is in the air is a foul. It's called "unterlaufen" or "unterbauen" in German, not sure what's the English term. 'Undercut', maybe?

@bill, England have gone through the center all game. One pass has cut the whole midfield. Nacho has had to play both CB and DM. I literally have not noticed Busquets until Neville mentioned he plays football at a walking pace. Well I couldn't agree more

Oh and Asensio and Inigo with pointless cameos. What was the point of both subs exactly if your aim was to defend

I know what you're referring to but in this instance I don't think Welbeck fouls De Gea at all. Welbeck is competing for the ball with the defender before De Gea falls into him and drops the ball.

Hmm.

The way I saw it, De Gea jumps and grabs the ball, and then Welbeck moves into him to get him out of balance.
Possibly Welbeck fouled the defender before, too, but I don't know

The foul on the goalkeeper would have been called in any respectable league.

Another game, another masterclass by Joe Gomez. He is also *bleep* great on the ball, played better forward passes than Stones. No England player had more touches of the ball vs. Spain than Joe Gomez (91).

I thought England did OK, the usual signs of nervousness when playing a "big team" but signs that they were trying to move the ball around too.

I said it before, how did Iceland make pool A?

Germany v France was boring, Germany has forgotten how to score goals for what seems the last year (and Nils Petersen is not the answer) I thought Italy v Poland was a sloppy game.

In general, I guess this is better than friendlies and I now know that Luxembourg is way better than Moldovia and White Russian is much much better than San Marino, though what I really want to know is if Gibraltar can beat Liechtenstein.

WTF is Ryan Babel doing starting an international game in 2018? Netherlands' crop of footballers born after 1984 have been pretty dire. Van Dijk and Memphis are the only ones who stand out from this current generation, and Memphis was deemed an overrated flop until his last season at Lyon.

Though this new generation of De Light, De Jong, and Kluivert all seem very talented and are projected to have high ceilings. Especially De Jong who could potentially be a generational midfielder. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Barca or Pep make a serious move for him this summer provided he continues his development.

@Zigra who else is a potential standout from this new Netherlands generation aside from the three I mentioned above?

I dont rate Pavard, almost caused a PK in the first half, and could properly mark his attacker on the goal. he was equally poor in the world cup defending. meh player

Hernandez comes off the pitch and suddenly, France get bombarded on their left side, mendy out of whack.

that was  nice Cross. Cilessen should have done better though. He had a chance to make the save, he fumbled it. Also, Van Dijk beaten on the same play by Giroud.

France only has 60-65 mins in its boots right now.  Both games, just completely ran out of gas at that point.  Players aren't fit at all.

Pavard is having fitness issues.  He's never played through a summer like this before after a season.  His legs look very heavy. Other than Hazard, he was fine in the WC.

I don't think a lot of these players are going to look right until after the winter break.  They look gased.
