Re: The Movie House - Part 11
Randomly watched "Searching". Was very well done.
It's about a daughter going missing and you see everything from the perspective of the dad using his computer/phone/FaceTime etc while trying to find information. Has several plot twists and a surprising ending.

Golden Globes just like the Oscars proving to be an abysmal award ceremony once again.
Once plus from my side is Christian Bale winning a deserved Globe for Vice.

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
I'm sure you know Adam McKay's style by now given his first foray into a more serious directing role was with The Big Short in which he handled directing three A list actors successfully in three different styles of screenplay and very very well.
Vice was a good film and entertaining but more so if you are or were familiar with the political climate of that era and of course most of the film is satire and tries to almost aim to much to antagonise the characters too much rather than the main cast of Actors being given freedom to express their specific roles.
So the film falls short in areas in not being decisive in knowing what it wants to be despite the handful of genuine laughs produced from its more dark, sardonic and subtle humour and sometimes you've the feeling it does not have to take such a tone and almost is afraid of approaching subjects without the usual satire.
But the strength of the film is in its performances. Specifically Sam Rockwell as Dubya, Amy Adams (who is never NOT good and works very well with Bale as usual) and of course, Bale himself who ISNT just unrecognisable due to his physical change but the sheer metamorphosis into capturing the essence and mannerisms of Cheney very accurately. Usually for him when his films may fall short he holds up the film by himself.
It had room for a lot more and did not strike with the expected confidence but left us to think in hindsight of that climate of politics and memorable performances.

What a movie FFS wanted to discuss with someone, glad you watched it.
Curious to see what you think about the ending.
- Spoiler:
There's a theory that the poison made him half blind because the rabbit was half blind.
It's either that or he changed the last part of his story and did in fact sell the woman to Dubai and got his retinal replacement.
inb4usualsuspectshemadethewholestoryup
- Spoiler:
I don't think he was half blind because when he was tied with Tabu's character she fools him by giving wrong instructions. He making up the story seems to be the more possible option, but again even this version has some loop holes like the rabbit was introduced to us even before any of the characters were so it was not supposed to be the imagination of some character and secondly how did he know that rabbit saved his life if he was really blind. So yeah am clueless about the ending as of now.
Andhadhun was dope. One of the most enjoyable Hindi films of recent times easily. Expertly done. Huge fan of the director actually. His Johnny Gaddaar was even better than Andhadhun for me.

Watched Bird Box. Pretty meh actually. Lol. Premise was promising definitely but ruined by tacky storytelling. Trevante Rhodes thou. Lad is definitely going to be big. Worth watching for him alone.

Dan Trachtenberg will direct the Uncharted movie after Shawn Levy left.
So fucking good. Incredible choice really. He's already made the best video game movie so far (his Portal short film). And his Cloverfield film was absolutely incredible.

Two Mission Impossible movies announced for summer '21 and '22, which means it'll likely be a part 1 and 2. Could see it ending Cruise's run as the main guy in the franchise. What a run.
McQuarrie is returning to direct both

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
BBC poll has declared David Bowie the greatest entertainer of the 20th century, and he is in the finale for THE person of the 20th century. Reputable art-house music sources such as Pitchfork and the NME agree, and greats like Radiohead and Scott Walker have praised and placed Bowie above all as well.
Will endure across time more than Elvis (already does) and probably even The Beatles.
Not bad.
edit: wrong thread, meant to put this in the music room thread.

Not entirely ^ played in a few movies as well, including the great Prestige by Christopher Nolan. Imagine my surprise when I found out that Duncan Jones (director of Moon, Source Code and Warcraft) is his son.
Edit: I don't really know Bowie's story, when will they make a movie about him.

The other day, Duncan (inheritor of Bowie's estate i presume) wrote on his twitter that he had been busy rejecting the influx of biopic proposals, so we might not see one soon.

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
I'm iffy on Bowie's music and acting in general. Find him to vastly overrated by the upper middle class hipster I've come in contact with.
With that in mind his true story could be an interesting movie, if they don't handle it with kid gloves. I don't think it'll be made because he's been a very controversial personality sexuality wise, where there's been credible claims about his relations with minors.
I'm also pretty sure you don't need anyone's permission to make a Biopic, if you can prove it to be true, it's protected by freedom of speech.
His androgynous personality would make for a great concept in casting etc. Could see a Todd Haines Bob Dylan biopic over this, where a lot of different people, man, woman, different races play a version of him.
Could see Lady Gaga play him after her new star turn.
Could also end up as a shitfilled lip sync music video like Bohemian Rhapsody directed by a pedophile though. Which it probably will, because fuck artistic integrity and decency.

Anyone not authorized by the Bowie estate would not be able to use Bowie's music/copyrighted misc; that fact along with the integrity Duncan would provide makes me wish that nothing without his involvement is done.

Yeah the music can't be used, if it is indeed owned by Bowie's estate.
Events can't be copyrighted though. I still see them making a biopic about him at some point. Like that Hendric biopic they did without the music.
The only music biopic I'm looking forward to is the Elton John one right now, because the actor is actually giving an acting performance in it. It's such a cop out to lip sync imo.

Appreciate Roma winning best foreign language film at the Oscars this year mainly because it will keep Cold War from winning.

Yea also found Cold War to be overrated.
Don't know when I'll be able to see Shoplifters, still have to see if it gets a cinema run somewhere when I go back to Joburg next week, I doubt though.

Haven't seen Cold War yet, but there's always overrated movies nominated for the Oscars. Also, haven't seen a single one nominated for the best picture yet. This is also because I am waiting for good 1080p releases and not going to the cinema. I gotta catch up with a lot of movies. I am so curious.
