GL Pre-Season improvements/Suggestions/Innovation

matter of fact just keep all footballing discussion in the GS IMO and have a few sticky threads for stuff like not worthy of a thread, comparing players etc

there's no need for anything besides general section currently and hasn't been for a few years now and having sections with like barely any posts makes the forum look dead AF, when the general section gets decent activity.

No need for anything other than GS and The Hub and some of those should be merged too tbh

It's my same opinion.

My recommendations for the hub:

Have a separate section for other sports since NBA thread is quite popular over here. You can just rename it to other sports.

And you can merge the gaming and entertainment into one section

Odds and ends and life and humor should be merged as mentioned by others

I really don't know if Technology and politics section should be merged though so you guys have to work that out. Maybe rename it 'Miscellaneous' I guess ? And under the miscellaneous title you can have the title description say politics, technology and other categories.

Basically this is how it revamp the hub :

-Other Sports
(Insert title description)

-Gaming and Entertainment
(Insert title description)

-Life and Humor
(Insert title description)

-Miscellaneous
(Insert title description)

There's also no use of RB section anymore. Have the comparisons in the GS if need be. If you feel that would 'lower' the quality of discussions, let me tell you that 50% of the discussion in GS is just trolling, bantering and derailing threads so there's no point anymore in having a dedicated section for player comparisons. It's just a goal.com tradition  that's carried over here and most members are grown up by now to even bother about pissing contests like the old days

Maybe clean debate and RB section can be replaced by a new section called "serious debate" where people can talk about more "Academic" aspects such as tactics, match analysis, team diagrams/schematics, statistics, and it could be inclusive of RB section's purpose.

In clean debate the last post was done in 2016 - it's as dead as it gets. MM section is close and even in the RB section you got threads on page one in which people haven't posted for 2 years.

Even put together these 3 forums don't need their own sub forum. You can easily merge them into the general discussion. Maybe put a [serious posts only] in the title or stuff like that.

Basically the same is true for politics and science. It makes sense to have separate forums for this stuff but only if you got decent activity. If not you can just merge it into a single forum and maybe put in the OP if this is more about banter or serious stuff.

Other sports I don't know. If NBA fans think it makes sense to have more than one thread, it might make sense.

I'd try to concentrate as much of football conversation as possible into the General section. When activity is low, you should put it all in one place, imo.

For example, a few Liverpool posters still occasionally use the LFC section, but at this point I think it would be better to have a "Liverpool thread" in the General section (and maybe close the club sections). Club sections are good when you have enough fans talking in detail about their club and players - discussions tend to be more serious in dedicated club sections, which is a definite plus - but once activity drops below a certain level I'd say it's better to just talk in the General section, so neutrals might take part a bit more often.

You could even have a vote within posters of different clubs on whether they'd like to keep their section open or close it and talk about their club in the General section.

Why do you want it to disappear?

#1. Hub should remain below Club section. It's a football forum after all.

#2. Clubs which has low activity should be collated under a League Section. So, if there's not much activity in Inter or Bayern sections they would be collated under German and Italian league section respectively.

#3. TOO MANY duplicate/redundant/unnecessary thread on same topic. PLEASE be VERY strict on this.

This

Juventus, Arsenal and Madrid sections deserve their own space as each of these three clubs have more active members here. All 3 sections are fairly active. I don't know about the rest.

We have quite a big and active gaming/other sports/ entertainment community. So mixing all of them together isn't a great idea.

Odds n ends is definitely merging. Science and tech can go with life and humour. But entertainment and other sports/games should probably be kept separate.

Not convinced anything needs to be done with regards to sports/gaming/entertainment tbh.

Only way it makes sense to change it if interests overlap on a similar topic like a game and a TV series on the same subject.

But I'm not sure that's worth revamping it for that reason alone.

Just a matter of preference i wish it could be as before. I wanted to show support to Croatia and now i have to display "RO blank". Since you told be nothing can be done i have stopped caring.

For it doesn't show anything. It says "country:" and that's it, looks fine.

Make these GS club speficic threads "serious"only. That is, no trolling from rival fans. Unless its about Juan Jesus imo.

I can understand that actually, people in the active club sections enjoy it for serious discussion around the team, whereas general section is mostly banter. So yeah, I really do think that there should just be stickied thread at the top of the GS for Juve, Arsenal, Madrid etc but if that happened there should be a disclaimer that the thread is for serious discussion (I mean there's a place and time for banter everywhere but the thread/discussions shouldn't be derailed by it)

For me, the layout should be simple;

General Section with the mentioned sticky threads, Gaming/Entertainment and then Misc. for evertything els. Just those 3 Sections.

Oh and obviously Announcements for RG's bi-yearly updates.

Getting rid of the Arsenal, Juve and Madrid sections would be too radical and I think having so many stickied threads would clutter the GS even more

I'm not down with this idea for now.
