Re: OFFICIAL : Zidane resigns as Madrid manager
He wasn't happy with that either DoC. The Bale and Ronaldo thing were the icing on the cake. He'll never throw players under the bus... but there was a lot of unprofessionalism this year that happened behind closed doors.
The decision was a shock to his staff too btw. And not a whisper. This was a very sudden decision. Nothing like this stays quiet if it's been decided for a while and other people know...

Re: OFFICIAL : Zidane resigns as Madrid manager
Best coach we've ever had. With new additions this summer we could really have gpne for the elusive treble. I was just not ready for him to leave so suddenly.
I don't think the new coach will be half as good as him.
I don't think it's to do with leaving while being on top. Remember around December when ZZ hinted that he wanted to leave saying the stress was too much. He mamaged to get around that and now he's really left.
What's going to happen to the dressing room now. He was the only coach we've had besides Carlo that really controlled the dressing room
Arggh I am so pissed right now

Would love to see him coach Juventus one day.
In my opinon its bad decision making, he should have stayed and tried to actually build a squad, instead of just getting carried by the players that were already there before him.
The question of whether he is a great manager is still up in the air.
Remember even Roberto di mateo won the CL with chelsea, and we all know he didnt do shit.

We're still making Di Mateo comparisons 3 years in? You can get away with not doing shit in half a season, not *bleep* 3.

Re: OFFICIAL : Zidane resigns as Madrid manager
Yes, I'm not the biggest fan of his, but if he won 3 CLs in a row and a league title as well, he must be doing something right. At some point, you have to start giving credit to the man. After all, NO ONE ELSE has done what he did at Madrid.
He may come a little short in the tactical department, but his man-management skills are legendary. There's no one better at it.
I think it was a bad decision for him to leave now, especially when the squad is ageing and the need for a rebuild is stronger than ever before. But maybe he has given that a lot of thought and concluded that he doesn't have the necessary skills to build the squad from the ground up. If that's truly the reason behind his decision to step down, then I totally understand and respect him for his honesty.
Also, Di Matteo? He's not even fit to lace Z's boots. He wouldn't last a day in Madrid's dressing room.

Re: OFFICIAL : Zidane resigns as Madrid manager
DoC... let me put it to you this way. If you're going to do a rebuild, you would want control of what happens, no? Why would you stake your reputation to a process where you only get a voice in the transfers.... you're basically a slave of what others decide.
Zidane wanted full control to continue. That isn't something Real Madrid does for anyone. In fact, i'm not sure he even asked since he knows the club so well. He'd rather go somewhere where they hand him the keys.
There was already strife with how the transfers were handled last summer. I'm pretty sure that played a big big big role in his decision. Real Madrid basically signed players that Zidane never playd.... because he didn't want them.

Re: OFFICIAL : Zidane resigns as Madrid manager
Zidane (and Perez) wrote:“I made the decision to step down. I know it’s weird, but this team needs a change to keep winning, they need a different perspective, a different way of doing things and that’s why I decided to leave,” said Zidane. “I love Real Madrid and president Perez,” he added.
“This is not good-bye, just until later,” said Perez. “I want to thank him for all the effort and dedication. He deserves some time off,” added the president as Zidane explained that he won’t coach next season.
“It’s simple, you just have to know when to stop. I do this for the sake of the club, it would’ve been extremely tough to keep winning with me as the coach next season. We saw this in La Liga, I don’t forget those moments. This is not about me staying and then completing a bad season next year,” explained Zidane.
“My best memory here is when the president trusted in me. As a coach, the best thing for me was winning La Liga. And the worst time for me was losing against Leganes in the Copa del Rey,” he said.
“This doesn't have anything to do with the decisions we were going to make this summer. It’s part of the job. This is just a change we needed so that he club can keep winning,” concluded the French coach, now clearly a club legend.

Sounds like he just got tired of football management if he has no plans to coach next season. He was a manager only for a handful of years anyway, maybe he discovered it's not really what he wants to do.

Re: OFFICIAL : Zidane resigns as Madrid manager
Loool absolutely incredible the football world is sometimes. No one ever thought this would happen. Hes clever to leave on a high since naturally the team would dip next season, u just cant keep up that motivation after 3 CLs, and with the team aging and with problems developing, what a smart move by him. Leaving on a high perhaps a bit also to do with how he ended as a player and he doesnt want that again.
French NT sounds natural step for him next and the momentum he has now would be really interesting to see how he does.
At the end though, its gonna be long debated whether he was this good or more relied on luck and the players, etc. Incredible record of achievements though in the 2.5 years, and the way he handled the job which traditionally has always been so difficult.

Actually this makes sense if he is truly ambitious.

The reasons he gave sound very similar to Guardiola after he left Barca tbh, well apart from the fact he actually won the CL in his final season anyway.

Leaving after winning your third straight CL. What a way to go out.
I also read he's the first Madrid coach to resign, and not get fired, under Perez's tenure.
I can see him joining the French NT after the WC and then go back to Madrid after the 2022 WC.

Re: OFFICIAL : Zidane resigns as Madrid manager
I can't see Zidane in another club position immediately. I think it will either be French NT or taking a year off.
Plus Zidane is smart, he's only going to jump into a position where the team is stacked.

Re: OFFICIAL : Zidane resigns as Madrid manager
Any clues about a new manager?
Who is even still available? Lots of coaches, some big names, already found new clubs just recently.
So who?
Conte? `
Surely the best option available, also the most grotesque mismatch
WENGER?!

I have some insider info (not sure if reliable)
Zidane might be the new Qatar NT coach, he’ll get a monster contract, up to 2022

Poche has a release clause for PSG and Real Madrid apparently... I see it happening. If not, then Lopetegui or Guti.
Raul's name may show up too.

All I can say is, this was totally unexpected.
Who is going to replace him??? Most of the known managers have already been hooked-up.
