Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Tottenham made Fulham an offer for Sessegnon several weeks ago, proposed a deal that would see Danny Rose go the other way - #THFC want to move Rose (and Alderweireld for that matter) out - but couldn’t reach agreement and Sessegnon now won’t be leaving #FFC this transfer window

As expected, absolutely nothing in the Vida links, and all expected to be very quiet for us tomorrow.
It's just outgoings we're focusing now, and some of those don't have to be sorted tomorrow.

Don‘t particularly care about Vida but still baffled that it looks like we won‘t sign a left sided CB. Find it hard to believe we‘re entering the season with Mustafi as a certain starter and Sokratis played out of position with Holding and Mavropanos as backup.
For me, the Chambers moving out on loan only makes sense if we get another CB in who can move Sokratis to his right position and Mustafi acts as backup, otherwise I don‘t understand our thinking.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
I think they've decided that having half the backline be brand new would be too great a risk too soon.
Sokratis will have to adapt to the league, while Leno and the defence are forming a relationship from zero. To add another new centre back to that would mean three players unfamiliar with the league and each other.
Even City, with their infinite wealth, refrained from buying a whole new backline in one go.
Alternatively, things simply haven't worked out like they would have wanted.
Maybe Mustafi was up for sale but there weren't any takers for the price we wanted (we invested £35m in the guy and would definitely want most of that back). Or he would have been sold had we found another CB that fit within our budget.
Given we had a very limited pre-sales budget, I can't imagine the shortlist of options was all that exciting in the first place.
In any case, we knew weeks ago that a keeper, centre back and midfielder were our priorities this summer and we got them. I don't believe another CB was ever on the cards.

Now confirmed by Arsenal:
https://www.arsenal.com/news/lucas-perez-leaves-west-ham-united
Looks like Besiktas are trying to sign Ospina.
Welbeck is wanted by Southampton but it's pretty quiet on this front atm. There's some interest from abroad so he could yet leave in the coming weeks.
It's looking more and more likely that Jenkinson will be unable to find a club. Another loan could an option for him.
No news about Joel Campbell.

Hope Lucas does well at West Ham. Although strikers find it hard to cement themselves at that club, so I don't know.

Reports of Arsenal bid for Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele false. As previously reported incoming business completed a month ago. Were open to exceptional deal if chance arose (admire & have links to Dembele) but never realistic. #AFC optimistic on Ramsey contract but not close

I'm surprised that we passed up a chance to sign Meyer, Gelson Martins or Bernard all of whom were free.
They must really have faith in the young guys.

I'm not surprised. Meyer and Bernard aren't good enough to improve our starting eleven, and Martins is a raw talent who might end up costing Atletico a load in compensation if Sporting get their way.

So Ramsey, Welbeck, Joel Campbell, Carl Jenkinson potentially enter the last year of their contract at Arsenal with Jack Wilshere already leaving for free, Chambers leaving on loan without a replacement and Perez getting us a whooping 4m. Great business for the club.

The window shuts on Thursday, but the loan window will remain open until the end of August. This means club will be able to loan a player with an obligation to buy to get around the fact they can no longer buy. Something to potentially look out.
I read that this is not in fact the case. PL clubs can't get players on loan anymore either now.

It's not so bad when you take some perspective tbh.urbaNRoots wrote:So Ramsey, Welbeck, Joel Campbell, Carl Jenkinson potentially enter the last year of their contract at Arsenal with Jack Wilshere already leaving for free, Chambers leaving on loan without a replacement and Perez getting us a whooping 4m. - Ramsey is very likely going to sign a new contract soon, especially with us not signing anyone further and sales freeing up wages.
- Wilshere leaving was cheaper than us renewing his contract and paying him 6 figures per week to sit on the bench most of the time.
- We have 5 senior CBs at the club even without Chambers. We are perfectly fine letting someone go on loan without really lowering our quality.
- Campbell and Jenkinson staying will cost us in wages but we'll get next to nothing in transfer fees for either so it's not a huge loss, plus we have the rest of the month to still try to sell them.
- Not getting much for Perez is still cheaper than keeping him and not being able to sell since he seemed insistent on making good money and remaining in England.
Welbeck still being here is the only thing that I blame the club for. We should have tried to sell him earlier, but anyway we still could sell to another league or renew his deal if Emery decides he's worth keeping (which I'm not totally opposed to).
Make no mistake, I wish we'd done a bit better with outgoings, but we had an enormous amount of work to do to clear out dead weight and it was never going to be easy since it's dependent on other clubs which keeps our hands tied.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
A lot of those issues are hangovers from the previous regime. Selling and moving players on at the right time was one its weakest points.
Jenkinson should have been sold in 2015 when his stock was reasonably high and PL teams wanted him. He was never going to beat out Bellerin or Debuchy. Instead, they have him a new long-term contract, his value declined and we ended up with a player who is worthless in almost every sense.
Likewise, after that one decent season Campbell had with us, we should have sold. He wasn't in the management's plans, so a loan was pretty much just charity and solved nothing. Now we have another player with no worth and all we can do is wait until his contract runs down to get rid of him.
Then, of course, you get into the contract issues and the downright bizarre neglect that went.
This all needs to be better, but it's going to take some work for the new regime to get it all sorted.

@Eman
I'm not saying that we should've offered Jack Wilshere a new contract, I was saying that he should've been sold while he still had some value for us. The same is true Jenkinson, Campbell, Welbeck. You only have to look at how all our rivals manage to even profit from some of their worst players.
But I agree it was not an easy job, unfortunately it's all the work of Arsene Wenger, the way we've offered new contracts this summer to almost everyone who has some value suggests that things are changing at least.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
What Jay said.
Wenger's loyalty to players is quite admirable but it also let us down on a lot of occasions. We kept players longer than they should have been. Tried to give players chances when it was obvious they were never gonna make it.
Sanogo, Jenkinson, Campbell, Park, Debuchy, perez etc to name a few.
Hopefully it doesn't come to that now. Get rid and free the wages.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
I'm a bit surprised that Emery has called out Ospina, Campbell and Jenkinson as the only 3 that he wants to sell. I guess the club still sees value in keeping Bielik, Zelalem and Welbeck.
Welbeck is the trickiest because long-term he will never be good enough but he has too much value to let go for free if we can avoid it. We'll need to offer him a new deal if we want maximum payoff.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Reiss Nelson may be joining Hoffenheim on loan in the next couple of days.
The Mirror reckon he's going to sign a new long-term deal before heading off, but I've yet to see a better source report this.
It's quite a significant step for him because as it stands, he has a year left on his contract and a lot of young English players have headed to Germany in the last two years. They see it as a place they can actually get first team football now.

I don’t get why we didn’t sign a winger if Nelson has no intention if staying
Screw that, why didn’t we sign one regardless of Nelson did?
