Because you think there's chance Arsenal will sack him? They know what they're doing.They missed out on Klopp. They missed out on Sarri. They missed out on Carlo. Obviously, they're not looking to win anything major and not any time soon. Their main objective from what I can gather is a CL qualification and an EL title, and Emery just so happens to be the perfect guy for that.

Also what I like about all of this is that we actually got it done so quickly, before the CL final even (the official end of the season). It's unlike Arsenal actually. I am reasonably optimistic of our new setup at the club, it looks they have plans and goals in place, which is great, and a good change for a change, granted that it might take a while before we start to see evident progress.

Its good to see Arsenal getting things done this quickly, I guess theyve planned for this a while now though. Still one of the best and well respected clubs in the world, and hopefully they can show that they know what they are doing and works out well. With the players they got and the style they play, if they can get their act together its exciting. Much prefer their football than say Man U or Chelsea atm.

Liverpool in their transition phase after having lost Benitez and being in financial difficulties hired Dalglish, Woy and Rodgers before they could finally latch on to Klopp

Man United after losing SAF hired Moyes(lol), Van Gaal and Mou and arguably doing worse despite being the richest club in the world

This is the first time Arsenal have gone into transition mode since the time they sold Viera, Pires and the likes (?) Not to mention they've badly regressed for the last couple of years.
They need to stabilize. Give them some f*cking time. A safe option like Emery who if not via the league, has a huge chance to get them back to CL via the EL is a very very understandable decision.

Besides, other than City, i dont think any other PL club are so far ahead of the curve that Arsenal might struggle to catch them so i think they have a good chance to break into the Top 4 next season anyway IMO.

Please stop judging other teams with your Real Madrid and Barcelona lenses. Arsenal sit in a completely different situation altogether.

S... you don't realize how poor Emery is in big games against similarly or more talented teams. He's flat out awful. Does really well against fodders though. Problem in EPL is that there's a top 6 and Arsenal is, frankly, 6th. Seen enough of him to understand what he is and isn't.

Liverpool was in far far far worse shape for years compared to Arsenal. Man U self destructed... they could have had whomever they wanted.

I just don't understand why you would hire a coach that doesn't have a high ceiling... if you're going to take that kind of risk. Emery's ceiling is clear as day. Either get an elite manager or go out there and get an up-and-comer that can develop in to an elite manager at least.

This hire is so meh....

The more I think of this the more of a masterclass signing I think it is.

Arsenal know that top 4 is a pipe dream, so they signed a Europa League specialist to get them a European title and into the CL. It fits.

For what it's worth, Gazidis just outlined the process behind the hire.

We had an eight man longlist. The first interview was conducted on April 25th, and the last was on the 15th. Emery's interview was done on May 10th. The recommendation to the board was on May 18th. It was a unanimous decision between Gazidis, Sanellhi and Mislintat.

Emery blew everyone away with his knowledge of the club, the players and how he'd go about improving them.

He also just did his first press conference in English despite being far from fluid, so fair play to him. He's off to a good start.
