Re: The Oscars 2018 | 90th Academy Awards
Oh shit yea didn't even know Kobe was up for anything. Where can I find his short film?
My highlight was Deakins and Jordan Peele winning. Probably the only two awards I totally agree with

Should be able to find it easily googling ‘Dear Basketball’. It’s really emotional for me because of my Kobe love and the animation from Glen Keane is great.
People got mad with him winning because Kubrick never won beat director. Like that’s even comparable.
Just happy Pixar didn’t buy their way to another short animated Oscar. That category should be for more experimental animation imo. It’s a newcomer and amateur category.

Tiffany Haddish needs to host the Oscars next year or something. By far the best presenter of the night. She's so god damn naturally funny. Biggest comedic talent to come along in a decade and hope she gets so much more time to shine.

Re: The Oscars 2018 | 90th Academy Awards
I'm completely avoiding news channels for the next week.
Gonna be a lot of pearl-clutching about this from folks who have no business talking about this subject.
I have several thoughts:
- Joking about someone with Alopecia is fucked.
- Slapping someone who jokes about Alopecia is also fucked.
- Black women catch a lot of strays for absolutely no reason, especially this awards season.
- Chris Rock has made practically his entire career off of putting down Black women in his standup routines. He's got a history of this and it wouldn't surprise if this wasn't the first time he went after Jada.
- Will Packer is probably gonna get more work based on the ratings and social media activity this has generated. The Oscars (as a show) have not been this talked about in years.
- Denzel is the real hero for mediating and defusing this situation.

Re: The Oscars 2018 | 90th Academy Awards
Comedians make fun of everything and everyone, appropriately or not. If you have a problem with it, you get up and leave. That's what a civilized person in a civlized society does.
There is literally no excuse for violence unless violence is done to you... not only is that my moral take on it, it's also the law. This is clear assault.
The Oscars are stupid anyhow. Wouldn't surprise me if this wasn't some staged publicity stunt. It's that outrageous and stupid that I almost feel that it has to be... But then again, Will Smith and his wife have given me the "mentally unstable" vibe for years now. A shame.. because I used to like Will Smith a lot.

Both were wrong. Will for slapping and Chris for the joke considering Jada's medical condition.RealGunner wrote:So who do people think is in the wrong in this incident? What's everyones take?
Atleast they made up and moved on.

Re: The Oscars 2018 | 90th Academy Awards
My take is that alopecia is not a serious/life-threatening disease so I think Will is in the wrong at least 85% and Chris 15% or even less maybe
definitely doesnt warrant a physical response, nothing does.

obviously Jada is the villain of the story here, but no one wants to start that discussion because "we have to protect our women"

how so? from what i understand he just took Will to the side in the next break and lectured him a bit. But the situation was done, he didn't defuse or mediate anything, it wasn't as if Rock retaliated. Rock actually did well by not escalating the situation.McLewis wrote: Denzel is the real hero for mediating and defusing this situation.

Twitter is some wild place as always
Amy Schumer out here getting death threats like she's fucking Putin by the same people applauding Will Smith FoR dEfeNdIng HiS fAmiLy
What a fucking manlet really. Really strutted after the slap like he did something. And the speech felt like violence to hear. Saying God wanted him to slap Chris Rock
I actually respect how Rock handled it. Took the slap, and could easily made it worse. Not like you couldn't have made worse jokes. It was fucking tame.
If Mel Gibson can keep his cool after the Ricky Gervais jokes... like dude

Would Smith have slapped Hart or Chappelle or Burr or even Gervais? Genuinely curious. I genuinely don't know the power dynamic between Smith and Rock.

Re: The Oscars 2018 | 90th Academy Awards
Whatever happened to "chat shit get banged"? Do comedians have free range to hurt people just because they are on a stage?
People certainly have a right to say whatever they want, but when you touch on very sensitive subjects like appearance and disabilities it's kind of expected that tempers will flare, and sometimes that will lead to an altercation.
I don't think Will should have hit Rock, of course, but at the same time I don't really feel bad for Rock either. And I'd say his standing largely improved from how he handled the jab, which was very classy even if his jokes were not, so there was really no damage done except to Will's reputation.

the dude was literally laughing at the joke until he saw Jada's reaction. How do people not see the problem here? Cuck by all means.

Chris was a class, class act for handling the whole situation like a pro. Smith was a total ass. Nothing else needs to be said.

Re: The Oscars 2018 | 90th Academy Awards
Seems like everything else in the world these days, opinions are divided n ppl's thoughts on the same one incident have be so opposite. Im not understanding the world anymore I can understand both sides, but this was on live TV worldwide so surely the fair assessment would be Will Smith lost it completely? Like I read somewhere, that would be an offense, assault in normal circumstances? Let alone in live TV at the Oscars with the world watching, I mean its one of the biggest incidents in TV live history ever? Not only the slap but then repeat the F word twice, incredible... I been a fan of many of his movies actually, just goes to show often ppl like actors are just not normal everyday ppl
I understand the joke was bad n inappropriate, but u just cant react like that. But apparently many ppl actually support what Will Smith did?

not only rumoured bro, did you not see the live video-taped red table talk they had?
it doesn't change anything, but the problem here isn't Chris Rock's tame joke or the profession of comedians as a whole, it's quite literally Will Smith's poor sorry ass who clearly has built-up emotional issues when it comes to his terrible wife who he hasn't left yet.

Can we stop acting like her kind of Alopecia is a fucking disabillity.
And yeah, that G.I. Jane joke is a stock joke if I ever heard one and has been used to death already. Highly doubt he knew about her crippling disabillity. Who the fuck really cares about Jada fucking Pinkett enough to know about that stuff.

All of that is subjective. You have your view on it. I have mine. Denzel didn't have to do anything yet he did. The very fact that he made an effort is worth mention, in my book.
