Lmao, it's pretty bad. Mainly due to transition and lack of size on the perimeter.

Also AD is a great defender but he's not really a leader so doesn't anchor a defence the way you'd think.

Maybe he'll get there one day but he doesn't really make everyone around him better like Duncan or KG could for example.

Talking about defence, I've been watching mostly Bulls and have started to think Hoiberg is a good defensive coach. On the other hand the last time I've consistently watched games is over ten years ago when, I seem to think, there were much more fast-breaking and transition game taking place. Kinda confused whether Hoiberg is a decent defensive coach or fast-breaking is harder than before in the NBA?

Edit. To clarify, Hoiberg seems to instruct almost all of his players to start running back the moment someone takes a shot, minimizing fast-break opportunities for the opponent.

I think the poorer teams and poorer defensive teams are the ones who struggle most with transition d. It's very important and perhaps even more now because of how the dynamic of the league is to be a jump shooting team

He's a better offensive coach than defense. Last year the Bulls weren't great on defense, but he had older players not known for defense like Wade and Rondo. This year he's got some young athletes who are willing to buy into his coaching. Dunn and David Nwaba are both very good defensive players.

Overall I think he's an above average coach, maybe top 10 or right around there.
