He gets a lot of unfair flak for his celebrity status, he was absolutely one of the best in the world at his prime. Perhaps the best crosser of the ball ever.
Beckham did not have a role at Madrid with Figo and Zidane. He just didn't fit in at Madrid and the only time he proved his worth was in Capello's last year after he had signed for LA. Capello wasn't going to use him, but after running into injury problems used him and that time (only that time), he had a role and played well that 2nd half of season.

Kane, his overall play is much better. If you are talking about in general, i'd probably make the argument Jesus is a better fit for Man City.

Re: Harry Kane - the next Galactico
I didn't mean to underrate Kane or overrate Alli ya damn brits My only point is that they're both British, and as far as I know, even Alli is among the most high-profile players on the continent. I don't care whether it's justified or not ffs. I'd prefer if RM went for other alternatives... because quite frankly, British players just aren't worth their hype these days, and I generally think it's a gamble for a Spanish club to go after British, high-profile players, as opposed to non- British players. Odd, right? I mean, the traditional, British, hype- generated price tag is so appealing

Yeah, I can't be bothered to argue against his statistics. All that matters was his actual performance as a Real Madrid player, and in my opinion, he was one of the weaker players on a star-studded team. Props to him for being able to assist the likes of Ronaldo Nazário, though.

Beckham was overall a very good player, what sets him apart as one of the best is mainly his crossing and free kicks, mainly his crossing, they are just unbelievably accurate and difficult to defend against. Still remember how he always wanted to play in CM, and eventually at certain times he got his chance, but werent that good there.
So he was most effective on the right pinpointing crosses onto strikers who are good headers to score goals, which was so useful and decisive when they work.
Cant compare him with the likes of Zidane and Figo.

Re: Harry Kane - the next Galactico
I agree Beckham was overall a very good player and his crosses, passes and free kicks were top notch, but his value to Real Madrid is really limited to 4 months (and a liga trophy) in his final year here.
He was a marketing purchase, not needed on the field (much like the Bale purchase) and his real value is likely measured in shirt sales, certainly not his on the field presence.
It's also interesting to note that the originator of these galactico signings has all but abandoned that idea instead signing promising youth. Perhaps this is due to the last two (Bale and James) not working out.

How much do you think Flo will have to shell out to convince Levi? I'd say at least as much as Neymar...

Well, flo wasn’t interested in 120m and has very vivid memories of past dealings with Levi and in particular how badly he got hosed on that last deal for an overhyped, under performing, injury prone flop!
Sounds like a non starter to me!

Re: Harry Kane - the next Galactico
http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/41737088Tottenham would demand a world-record fee for Harry Kane if any club attempted to sign him, according to Real Madrid president Florentino Perez.
England striker Kane, 24, was called "a complete player" by Real boss Zinedine Zidane before Spurs' recent 1-1 draw at the Bernabeu in the Champions League.
Asked if he had spoken to Daniel Levy, the Spurs chairman, Perez said: "No. If I ask he'll tell me 250m euros [£223m].
"Signing Harry Kane has not passed through my head."
[..]
Kane has scored 15 goals for club and country this season, and has 45 in total in 2017 alone.
"He is a magnificent player and in addition he is young," added Perez. "But we are delighted with the team we have."
Tottenham has been a lucrative source of talent for Real in recent years, with both Luka Modric and Gareth Bale joining on big-money deals.

Re: Harry Kane - the next Galactico
Flo is wrong, Levy would ask for more than 250m euros lol
Not that much more though. I could see anywhere from 275-300m being his going price.

Does it really matter? 250M, 300M. Remember Flo has already balked (twice) at 120M!
This whole thread is a non starter. Madrid will not go after Kane nor DeGea, not because they don't need them or want them, but because of price tags.

Tottenham Hotspur are determined to resist a world-record bid from Real Madrid for striker Harry Kane. The Spanish club are prepared to make Kane football’s first £200m player, and exceed the £198m Paris Saint-Germain spent on Neymar, as they plot a radical and expensive summer overhaul.

Dude
Kane scored like 60 goals in 2017
Icardi is great and stuff, but you are Real Madrid and not Chelsea
Man up and get the best

Re: Harry Kane - the next Galactico
we are Madrid indeed, we still have morata's money in the bank, plus whatever benzema (if he goes, i think he will because he will understand he is no longer starter, and he said multiple times there is no reason to go since he is starting...) will sell for this summer.
im not kidding myself into thinking this will not happen though, i know damn well he is n1 on the recruiting list, specially at CF.
then Hazard, Salah, etc...

You are not going to get Salah with Bales resurgence
It will be Hazard, Kane, and De Gea. What a summer it will be.

Re: Harry Kane - the next Galactico
Bale has consistently been injured for like 3 months every season, it would be the smart thing to do. your attacking leader cant be an injury prone player. Salah is showing he can score as much and he stays fit, just sayin...
and i strongly doubt we go back for De Gea, for some reasons, interest has switched to Courtois it seems

as for Hazard, it would only happen if Cristiano leaves, and that's a big IF

Nothing happens until Cristiano leaves. Getting rid of Cristiano is priority no 1, how else do you want to pay Hazard's and Kane's wages and fees
Not to mention it makes no sense to get Kane if he isn't allowed to be primary goalscorer
