He SHOULD win but its not confirmed. Messi's hattrick has put the hype back on him just like CR's hattrick against Sweden in 2013.
And that was a joke too, Messi doesn't deserve shit lol.

Re: 2017 Ballon d'Or
There is no debate. Ronaldo will probably win it by a landslide. Depending on whether RM/Barca win the CL this season it'll probably be those two again next season. Though the WC winner might get some sympathy votes. Unless it's Isco Disco of course

When the last team a WC winner won it lol? Cannavaro?
GL pls.
Germany did not have a Ronaldo/Cannavaro/Zidane in their campaign. It was a collective effort so they only got Neuer in the top 3.
Same with Spain, Villa carried them to the semis but after that he kinda faded and they grinded out 1-0s.
Fun fact: Netherlands's best player Sneijder actually won the Balon D Or in 2010 (journalists vote) but since it got merged with FIFA WPOTY he did not even make the top 3 and Messi won it.

M99 is right. Ronaldo SHOULD win it as he deserves it but Messi having a great world cup will make this a 50-50 battle.

But that was in the "FIFA Ballon d'Or" era. It was basically a popularity contest as the coaches and captains of most countries just voted for their favorite players. If you looked at the way the journalists voted, for instance, Iniesta won it in 2010. In 2014 Cristiano won by a wide margin, but the journalists voted for Neuer in 2nd place, not Messi. Now that the Ballon d'Or is back in the hands of only the journalists their opinion is the only one that matters, and historically they've always rewarded the WC winner.

News flash: It still is a popularity contest and won't change till Messi and Ronaldo retire/grow old.
Seriously how many years do we need to go through this before people realise this.

Nah Sneijder won in 2010, Ribery in 2013.

Sure, but the journalists have always been the more even handed voters, and it will show. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
I agree CR is a lock for 2017 though.

I wonder who Guillem Balague would vote for?
Or if that manc guy that Mendy destroyed on Twitter will ever *nominate* Mendy?
If anything, they're underhanded

Nah different scenarios.
In 2013, there wasn't a clear leader. Messi kept getting injured, and Ribery didn't have enough media hype. Add in the Blatter controversy and the voting extension, along with Ronaldo's hattrick vs Sweden and that was enough to get him the win.
But Ronaldo's performance convinced the players to vote for him. I'm pretty sure Ribery win the journalist vote in 2013.
So yeah, I highly doubt Messi's performance versus Ecuador had the same effect. In fact, I'd say Ronaldo's performance against Sweden got more hype than Messi vs Ecuador did.

I'd take Balague over Roy Hodgson voting for Mascherano and some random asian manager voting for Yaya Toure tbh.

Re: 2017 Ballon d'Or
The number one issue is if you ask 10 people the criteria for the award you would get 10 different answers.
I see it as an MVP type award, the top individual who contributed the most to team success.
But quite clearly a lot of people don't agree.

Agreed, fully deserved win and thus ensured the one of the greatest come backs in footballing history by catching up to Messi's Balon D'or tally. An absolute legend of the game and Portugal's greatest player/manager.

Re: 2017 Ballon d'Or
Fully deserved and incredibly remarkable. To think that not just too long ago, he was trailing Messi 4-1 in number of Ballon d'Or wins. Now, they're even in that department as well as in number of Golden Boots and CL wins. It's proof that his spirit and belief in his own abilities are unbreakable.
Forget the fact that he has been the only one capable of competing neck and neck with Messi, his consistency which stretches over a decade at the highest level is god-like.
I said it before and I'll say it again: as a Madrid fan, I'll forever be grateful and in debt to Cristiano. We brought him for 94m which look like peanuts now and he in return gave us a goldmine and a truckload of trophies.
A living goddamn legend, a demonic, ruthless, possessed goalscorer (most likely the best in history in that) and an extremely professional athlete.
It's been a pleasure and an honor to watch you wear the white of Madrid. Your name will echo throughout history as one of the greatest ever, your legendary number 7 will forever stay craved in our memories and everybody shall remember the name Cristiano Ronaldo: The Gladiator of the White Coliseum.
Kommander; from the bottom of my heart: Thank you!

Messi will win it back next year, enjoy it while u can CR fans
Zidane when asked if CR or him was the better player:
"I was clearly better. If I have to choose, I choose myself," Zidane said. "But seriously, you know I think Cristiano is much better, although I had a good career.
Zidane even being forced to say CR is better than himself

Ronaldo will win it again next year. With the way he has started the season you just know he'll have an explosive second half and if we win CL then rip Harmessi and chadzema because there is no way he won't win it

I think it's abundantly clear to any football fan that Messi is far better than Ronaldo and will always be... and it has nothing to do with BdO trophies lol.
