What if we switch to 4-4-2
It actually seems quite fitting tbh
Higuain - Dybala
Douglas Costa - Matuidi - Pjanic - Bernardeschi
Alex Sandro - Chiellini - Rugani - Spinazzola
Buffon
Keita Balde - Mandzukic
Pjaca - Khedira - Marchisio - Cuadrado
De Sciglio - Benatia - Barzagli - Lichtsteiner
Szczesny

Teams will bid 10M for Khedira, then we'll release him because we're nice like that

Re: - | Transfer Talk | Rumors | News | -
Im ok with this Matuidi business. Similar to the Khedira deal- will work fine for a season or two.
At some point we'll need to bring on Sergej or someone of similar mould. Bentancur and Mandragora are the only young midfielder with any promise we have - and thats all it is, some promise.
Pjanic is 27, Matuidi and Khedira are 30, Marchisio is 31. Sturaro is more POW - to use some Luca parlance - than he is midfielder.
All said, 3 man midfield of Matuidi-Marchisio-Pjanic is a decent option and an improvement from last year. Matuidi will also be useful for a 2 man midfield with any of our other midfielders (preferably Pjanic or Marchisio). Fine.

Re: - | Transfer Talk | Rumors | News | -
I think Matuidi is a fine signing because he's low risk and based on the market, there wasn't much out there once Matic went for United, he was the most logical option.
I said it in the general thread, although hat place is just horrid trolling that depletes brain cells so I'm not even sure why I did, but this is a positive move.
Last season:
Pjanic
Marchisio
Khedira
Lemina
Sturaro
Rincon
This season:
Pjanic
Marchisio
Khedira
Matuidi
Bentancur
Sturaro
I would say this season we are comfortably, comfortably better and perhaps, at the best case scenario, Matuidi fills a specific role to get the most from Pjanic and if that happens, he's done the job and then some.

Exactly.
And this may be potentially better than getting Matic - who is in my opinion too static for what we need. Perhaps more of a replacement for Marchisio's current deep lying incarnation.
Andrew, sure, if that's your thing, go for it.

Do you gorgeous mofos think that Sturaro will be promoted to Matuidi's sub instead of Khedira ? I'm thinking Sturaro because a) Allegri has a hard-on for him and b) he obviously shares the same characteristics with Matuidi.

Also on another note, if Vidal who is considered as a box to box type of midfielder and shares similar characteristics with Matuidi can comfortably play as DMF, I see no reason why Matuidi cannot.

I pay it no mind. It's actually complimentary when so many clubs are against you. It means you're doing things right.
You have to remember that we could've signed Jesus Christ himself and the general thread would still be all over us. Thankfully Buffon already plays for us. I go there for fun, I post here for discussion.

Matuidi transfer is a perfect one
we have two important players who are physically limited ( Marchisio, Pjanic ) they dont add physical presence ( no pace, no strength ) but still they are important to Juventus, somehow our XAVI-INIESTA
adding Khedira as the third CM the guy really good , a specially headers but he doesnt add pace, so the midfield was getting slower and slower
And because of that lots of times i found Sturaro to be reasonable choice for the coach but now with Matuidi? I think our only problem could be the Cbs but even that i am sure Juventus has something we dont know

ALL STORIES, TRANSFER NEWS
Blaise Matuidi arrives in Turin for Juventus medical
AUGUST 16, 2017
Blaise Matuidi has arrived in Turin ahead of his medical with Juventus and is expected to be confirmed as a new signing later today.
Having missed out on Nemanja Matic and Emre Can, it seems Juve have resorted to their fall-back option by agreeing terms for French international Matuidi.
Matuidi is expected to cost Juventus in the region of €20m plus bonuses, putting pen to paper on a 3-year contract which will reportedly earn him €4.5m per season.
The player has landed at Turin airport and is expected to undergo his medical this afternoon before being presented to fans later today or tomorrow morning.

Re: - | Transfer Talk | Rumors | News | -
Matuidi is a solid short term solution to our DM problem. He'll give us two good years at that position until a permanent solution is found. Very good compliment to Pjanic in the double pivot as Matuidi is left footed and thus will play the left side and allow Pjanic to slide over to his more natural right side. We can also switch to a 3 man midfield with Marchisio playing in the middle of those two as the regista.
So we can play 4-2-3-1, 4-3-1-2, 4-3-3 or even 4-4-2 as others have mentioned. Unless we buy another CB I don't see us ever playing a 3 man backline again.

What's next in the Mercato?
Reports say that Keita is an opportunity rather than an obligation.
A right back if Licht leaves? Spinazzola in Asa out?
Reports indicate that Matuidi will be in the squad against Cagliari

My guess would be Spinazzola is in and Asamoah is out. Also Kean may be part of that deal for Spinazzola in terms of going to Genoa so that would free up one more spot on the roster for either a CB or Keita.
My money is on Keita coming next week. Spinazzola and Keita in and Asamoah out and the mercato will be closed.

If Keita comes, I can't imagine Cuadrado staying, even until January. I think if one comes, the other leaves.

Cuadrado could be useful off the bench but if he decides he wants to be a starter then yeah we could sell him and use up the last spot for a CB.
Having the 5th CB might be preferable than having Cuadrado as a luxury on the bench. It would allow us even more flexibility in case Allegri decides to go back and play a 3 man backline for certain matches.

I insist, 4-4-2 is the answer and with that formation we won't have to sell anyone as it guarantees playing time for everyone and it's also the only system that's best suited to the players we have, meaning that none will have to play out of position.

To me, it doesn't matter if it's a 4-4-2 or a 4-2-3-1. What matters is tactical positioning. Matuidi and Pjanic are going to be playing in front of the back line, Dybala will be playing behind Higuain, and the two wings will obviously be playing wide. Whatever you want to call the formation is fine, but I don't see Allegri deviating too much from those tactics unless he goes to a 4-3-3.

Re: - | Transfer Talk | Rumors | News | -
Dybala will be given a free role ala Nedved as Luciano Moggi already mentioned. So I don't see how that would translate to a 4-4-2. A 4-2-3-1 allows Dybala a free role in the middle. And if we switch to a 4-3-3 and use 3 midfielders then Dybala will be given the Messi role and will roam freely on the right side.
If we do acquire a 5th CB then I see us playing a similar formation as we did against Barca and Madrid last year for certain matches. A 3-4-1-2 or 3-4-2-1.

One thing I think is certain though. With Bonucci gone and with the $90 million purchases of Costa and Bernardeschi it is safe to say that the 3-5-2 is officially dead.

Keita AWOL at Lazio
Keita Balde Diao did not turn up for Lazio training today, as he is determined to force through a transfer to Juventus.
The striker was dropped from the squad for Sunday’s 3-2 Italian Super Cup victory over Juve and reacted angrily via Twitter, insisting the decision had nothing to do with football.
The Aquile resumed training today, but Keita was nowhere to be seen.
It’s not yet clear whether this is a one-off incident or if the Senegal international is going on strike.
His contract with Lazio expires in June 2018, but he has turned down all offers that aren’t Juventus.
The two clubs haven’t agreed terms, as the Biancocelesti want €30m and so far the proposal is just over half that.

Matuidi deal is good especially for the fee mentioned ~25 mln. It would have been perfect if we brought him to replace the Lemina - Rincon duo as he's clearly an improvement over them.
But if we don't bring another good midfielder CM or DM i feel our midfield hasn't improved much.
Matuidi is a poor copy of Vidal without the technical skillset and finishing but his age indicates he's only a short-term solution.
Hopefully we have a bit more cash to spend on a good CM but with rumors about Keita and a 5th CB we might not bring one.

Matuidi doesn't have the skill set of a Vidal but he doesn't need Vidal's skill set to do his job and compliment Pjanic. We need a good DM, a holding midfielder, a destroyer to play alongside Pjanic in a 4-2-3-1. We don't need a Vidal. We have more then enough offensive firepower to allow Matuidi to simply play the DM role and help out the centre backs.
I like Emre Can as another CM purchase as he can also play as a 5th CB and is still young. Maybe that is what they are working on. I'm not sure bringing in a pure CB is worth it at this point unless that player is better than anyone we currently have.
