I nearly did mention it and I probably should have done tbh seeing as it was probably the only gameboy game I played consistently.

At release, Gothic 2. Most don't know this, but it was the much improved (story wise) version of the first modern, as we now understand, 3D freeroam rpg, Gothic. 16 years ago it had freedom to go anywhere in the gameworld without load screens, it was 3D, had realtime combat and had voice acting. I mean Elder Scrolls still haven't catched up on that.

Still voted Elder Scrolls for making modding popular.
