Fuk off Oscars. Moonlight winning the picture and not LLL. Didnt know the agenda shit people talked and feared about was indeed true. Sigh.

Absolutely undeserved best picture, its a great movie but by no means better than LLL, seems they were afraid of the backlash they'd get if LLL won. Pushing the whole 'white ppl singing in Hollywood' narrative. Seems like every movie nowadays needs to have transgender/disabled/skin color that is not white to be eligible to win.

Re: The Oscars 2017 | 89th Academy Awards
Still cant understand why we are taking this crap seriously. One way or the other every year its the same undeserved and biased story.
The ironic thing is LLL is better than each and every film that has won the best picture in the last 9 years for me. The last truly deserving film that can match up to LLL was No Country for Old Men way back in 2007. La La Land is one such rare film that had come so close to being 'perfect' for me. Cant recollect many films like that tbh.
And if you compare Moonlight with the rest of the flicks that won the award, I do think it is one of the weakest. Only Argo, Slumdog and Hurt Locker were worse than Moonlight for me in the last 9 years.
Fck it. I am going to concentrate entirely on Cannes and Sundance from hereon.

SJW's are outraged Casey won btw. Apparently being accused of sexual harassment means you're guilty. I'm not super familiar with that whole case but just because he settled out of court doesn't mean he did it.

They're also saying rape and unwarranted sexual advances is the same thing. When comparing to Nate Parker.
I think Moonlight deserved everything it got tbh.
More than one movie can deserve the award.

Very conflicted about this, if the award is for a particular job done, should his personal life have any say on the quality of such work? Doesn't go only for him but also for the likes of Mel Gibson, Polanski, etc.

I was skeptical of Kimmel hosting but I think he did it quiet well.

I haven't seen Moonlight so I can't really comment. Will see it this weekend, and I'm looking forward to it.
Have a hard time seeing it beat Arrival or La La Land though.

I would have loved to have been in the room with Spike Lee when the best picture gaff occurred. I guess he will have to limit his moaning to the fact Denzel "missed out"

Re: The Oscars 2017 | 89th Academy Awards
I'm gonna leave this here as well
Don't call me James wrote:Moonlight - 8.2/10
The story was powerful in the first 2 acts. Very riveting and heartfelt. The characterization of a repressed shy, mute, individual was amazingly portrayed. But the final act was a bit underwhelming, it was very short and it left very little time for Adult Chiron to really close the film and show the 'it' factor that I was hoping would arrive.
Very well acted. Mahershala Ali and the girl playing Chiron's Mom were great. Deserved Oscar nominations. Though I don't really think Mahershala's acting was any more phenomenal than Michael Shannon's in Nocturnal Animals. They both deserved it so I'm not taking anything away from my main Mahershala.
The best part of the film was the score and cinematography.
Should it have won the Oscar? No I don't think so. It wasn't that special given that there were much better films against it.
Can I see why it won the Oscar? Yes. Listen, you would be crazy not to think politics were involved here with this winning. But that's not the only reason why it won. It's a good movie.
In terms of Best Picture nominees I have Arrival and Manchester by The Sea as superior films to this both of which deserved the win more.
Arrival - 8.7
Manchester by the Sea - 8.4
Moonlight - 8.2
Hell or High Water - 8.2
Lion - 8.0
Haven't seen LLL, Hacksaw, Hidden Figures, or Fences.

Re: The Oscars 2017 | 89th Academy Awards
lol Moonlight is quality wise a better film than La La Land and more sociopolitically engaging at this moment of time at that as well. It is probably the quintessential piece in the genre of drama for the African-American community as of now, can anyone name me a film similar to it made in the last 10 years?
I think Moonlight and along with Fruitvale Station are great standards for African-American dramas to come in the near future. Said community needed it, as well as the whole industry.
La La Land at its most basic is a story seen multiple times before just told in a slightly different way (which it is done very well by the way) and refreshened up with great cinematography, striking colours and lovely music.
Moonlight is easily more impactful however.

Haven't watched either of these movies. Will watch Moonlight first. Probably gonna alt + f4 La La Land 20 minutes into it. Not a fan of musical tbh. but Emma Stone ffs.

How did they *bleep* up so bad with the best picture award? I mean they've done this for how many years now?
Also Freeza which one deserved the award in your opinion?

Both. La La Land spoke to me on a personality level and how I love art and dreaming. Moonlight spoke to me in such a personal way. And the acting was some of the best I'd ever seen in a movie.
Both deserved it. I won't participate in an either or tbh. Not with these two.
Im happy La La Land lost though. The backlash it was getting beforehand would've been to much had it beaten Moonlight.
