I thought everyone was gonna boycott the Oscars for being racist.

Very few Arabian stars are not appearing, The rest are. They had a problem with Trump, Not the Oscars. The rule as it is has been overruled so, So its near normal. I won't be surprised someone take his name though.

Unique still living in 2016 it seems. Pretty impressive. I would've thought it would closer to 1950

Not surprising. A personal insult is somehow worse on this forum than wishing death to all muslims.

Re: The Oscars 2017 | 89th Academy Awards
Best Picture: La La Land
Director: Chazelle
Actor: Denzel
Actress: Emma Stone
Supporting Actress: Viola Davis
Supporting Actor: Mahershala Ali
OG Screenplay: Manchester By The Sea
Adpt Screenplay: Moonlight
Cinematography: La La Land
Score: La La Land
Song: City of Stars
Foreign Film: The Salesman
Visual Effects: Jungle Book
Documentary: OJ: Made in America
Animated: Zootopia
These are my picks. Hoping for surprises though. That's always the best stuff.
Have a problem with Viola Davis and OJ being in those categories at all, since I feel Viola is a lead and OJ is a TV documentary. Viola deserves one though. Think she would've beat Emma Stone also, and it would've created much more uncertainty if she was in the right category.

Haven't seen it. But essentionally the same problem I had with Vikander winning for Danish Girl last year (thought she should've won the award, just for Ex Machina).
Last year both Vikander and Redmayne had around 1 hour and 5 minutes screentime.
This Year Viola has the same screentime as Denzel from what I've read. Meanwhile Michelle Williams and Naomie Harris have delivered amazing performances that are small supporting players with around 10-15 minutes all in all. Same with Mahershala Ali. Those roles are supporting. A 1 hour+ screentime role is not supporting by any means in my book.
They need to make clear definitions. Set the cutoff at like 35% of the movie's screentime or something. Can't stand this shit anymore.
Gonna watch Fences soon though. Once it's available in Denmark.

Also OJ was made by ESPN and shown as a miniseries on television. Then it gets shown in theaters and it's suddenly a movie? I hate that, no matter how good it is. Give it a Nobel prize or Pulitzer then.

Wonder if they do that on purpose or there is no set criteria? Maybe they didn't want any controversy by placing Viola in the leading category instead of supporting.
Reason I asked about Fences was because it looked great in the trailers but I didn't see any hype when it released. So thought it tanked but looks like it went alright.

Fences didn't get hype because it wasn't any better than the existing play, and not different at all. It's basically the filmed play. Viola and Denzel both played those roles together on Broadway. So one of the most famous plays have a hard time getting hype when it's not better at all.
I read a reporter say that the talent choose their category themselves. It's retarded.
in 2015 Andy Serkis was placed in the supporting category for Dawn of The Planet of The Apes voting... Someone explain to me how he's supporting in that.

In terms of predictions I think you have it mostly on point in your other post, Freeza.
But definitely hoping there are surprises.
I think my biggest disappointment of the night would be if Casey Affleck didn't win.
