Fair enough, I'll take it under advisement lol.
Will give my opinion when I see it next week.

well, my friend who went to watch the midnight release and the next 2 shows said it is a great film but has flaws.
Was expecting a "10/10 greatest of all time" but wasn't expecting that.
Sounds like a 8/10 but let's see.

I didn't expect the greatest of time lol, just a more epic version of the last one and more character development.

Saw someone say TFA and this one being the worst SW movies of them all and I just had to not subscribe to anything anymore.
This whole prequel loving resurgence of fans shitting on newer stuff to fell like they’re important is just straight up weird. It’s like they’ve convinced themselves through prequelmemes that the movies are actually not garbage.
Facebook comments from these contrarians are the worst. 90% did not see the movie and are just doing it to seem cool and get reactions. Saw a serious comment on a Disaster Artist video yesterday saying James Franco was bad and this remake is okay but the original is far better.

Re: Star Wars – Official Canon Thread. - RIP Carrie Fisher
I really loved this one, but I can see why some people would be turned off.
I think it’s completely different than TFA and it takes a lot of risks.
I have two complaints that’s two uses of humour that were too much and fifteen minutes in act 2 that dragged too much.
But everything that’s good in this one is so much better than anything else I’ve seen in Star Wars. By far the best visual one and the music is up there with Williams’ best. And most of the characters really get time to shine.
The first hour is god damn incredible.
I think it gets better with each view because so much is happening and you could get fatigued with impressions. Especially fans who’ve been theorising about every outcome for two years.

Seeing the matinee tomorrow morning. As long as it's better than TFA, I'll be reasonably pleased.

Is all about tastes. If you want a safe we’ll structured great story = TFA
The Last Jedi is a balls to the walls adventure that takes risks. Has higher lows and higher highs.
My one friend who don’t like Star Wars said he loved this one and didn’t like TFA at all. This is the first one where he felt emotion when watching.
I might still have Force Awakens as my 1.
1. TFA
2. ANH
3. Empire
4. Rogue One
5. Sith/RoTJ
6. Phantom Menace
7. AoTC
TLJ would be in top tier with the top 3 here so far.

Re: Star Wars – Official Canon Thread. - RIP Carrie Fisher
I have no particular problem with TFA other than it was a re-hashed ANH. I can respect that as it brings in new generations, but as someone who has seen ANH so many times beyond count, the lack of a truly new and unique story was a disappointment.
This is why I think TLJ will almost by default be better imo. The only way it ends up not being better if is it's a re-hashed Empire Strikes Back, which I doubt it will be.

i am on the same boat as Mclewis. I loved TFA but it didn't have the ingenuity. Mainly since it was meant to bring the 'universe' together. Rogue one was great for me.

Rogue one being the best SW movie...isn't really an unpopular opinion ES. In fact, I've heard it tons lol.
I agree re: TFA. I thought it was well done and enjoyable but the amount it mimicked ANH was too much. Great movie that was too safe.
Well mole you're in luck. That's exactly what it is (IN MY OPINION)
Better than TFA. Visually stunning. Amazing action, and a lot of epic moments. I think there were some bad moments as well and I agree with Freeza re:humor, but overall it was ambitious, fun, tenacious, and it was everything you want a star wars movie to be.
It had some flaws but all movies do. I have to see it again but might be my fav after Rogue One. Sidenote: I lean more towards casual SW fan than hardcore. So take this from someone who gets hyped about the film but is not Freeza level nor am I into the lore.

I find it weird how Rogue One is suddenly loved by so many people.
The Last Jedi is hated at reception. Rogue One was really lukewarm. The Force Awakens was universally loved.
All those things basically shift around. Maybe it's just different people being vocal at different times though.
It happens a lot though, and very few movies withstand a turn in opinion for/against them.

I haven't looked at a single thing for The Last Jedi...people don't like it? Honestly it was so much fun. It's everything I like about star wars. Every movie has flaws and when more people have seen it/I've seen it again, I'll be willing to discuss those (in spoilers) but I really, really enjoyed it. Mind, I've just got back so perhaps I'm just more hyped than I ought to be.
Rogue One, I'm not talking about reviewers but everyone I know personally really, really liked it upon first watch and my friends and I went to go see it again a couple days later. My friend who is a big SW fan and was really disappointed with TFA thought Rogue One was the best ever SW film. At least anecdotally, it's really loved by everyone I know. It should be, too, it was really good.

There's a lot of "prequellists" that say it's the worst of all time and that it ruined Star Wars forever.
It's really crazy to hear, and I have no idea what movie they saw. A lot of their problems are due to them not being able to follow simple plots tbh. Prequelmemes has resulted in people unironically loving the prequels and hate all other things Star Wars. Don't why there's such a strong lust to belong to a fandom that's universally disliked and then latch onto it and hate on everything else.
It's much akin to Zack Snyder fandom in DCEU, which I just goddamn hates. It's so god damn ridiculous to read people call Zack Snyder "zaddy" and compare him to Kubrick.

Honestly without actually seeing it I'd say anyone who says "ruined Star Wars for ever" when Episode 2 exists should probably not be taken very seriously.

You should seriously revise your life if you're a 40 year old man whining about how a kids' movie has ruined your life.

Best movie without a doubt.
I can understand people who say it's great with flaws (because it does have flaws for sure), but for me the highs are so unbelievably higher than Star Wars has ever hit that it's worth. Don't know why anyone would go so far as to say they hate it tbh.

- Legit one of the most incredible things I've ever seen in my entire life.
Combined with the lightsaber tag-team fight with Rey and Kylo.
I wasn't a huge fan of the Asian girl's storyline with Finn. I liked the idea behind it, but felt it needed a bit better execution. Mostly loved everything else though. Happy Phasma is gone.
Also. 5 year skip to episode 9 is my guess. Starting at Leia's funeral with a rebuilt (somewhat) rebellion.

You all got hyped now.
I also thought it was an unpopular opinion (I don't check any online forums but GL though) to think that Rogue One is the best. For me there was no doubt as soon as I saw it. I'm not a big star wars fan, I mostly enjoy the lore and think the movies are fun.
Rogue One
V
VII
III
IV
I
VI
II
I haven't watched the prequels since I was a kid so maybe they don't hold up. Ep. III always seemed awesome. Ep. I was interesting and fun enough. Ep. II was just boring and bad all the way through, only the Yoda fight I remember fondly.
Ep. IV is just too old. Its clearly good and I liked it a lot but its just too outdated. Its basically why I put VII so highly since they are so similar.

Re: Star Wars – Official Canon Thread. - RIP Carrie Fisher
My favourite is Episode V, that said i also appreciate the prequels, all of them
The actor who plays Anakin was horrible in the romantic subplot (didn't notice this as a child) but he improved greatly for Ep. III
Can't rank Episode VII yet, only after the end of this trilogy. Because a relevant indicator of quality for me is "how the film was integrated into the main intrigue". Fast like that i'd still say it was worse than both Ep. IV & I.
Still never took the time to watch Rogue One, i might soon. The presence of Donnie Yen alone should be worth it. I used to be a huge fan, nowadays Star Wars is mostly associated to my childhood nostalgia. Only LOTR tops Star Wars imo

As of my last watch mine was
V
VII
III
VI
Rogue One
IV
I
II
General thoughts would be i find IV disgustingly overrated and III very underrated.
The rest seems to fall in line with how a lot of people feel so don't really need going over.

How can you have such different options on 4 and 7 considering they're basically the same movie? Seems like you're allowing outside factors to guide your own opinion (over, underrated, etc)
