Its great for Telltale games if anyone is into them. They have pretty much all of them. Gonna play Walking Dead season 2 (the first season was GOAT).

the second playthrough sounds completely unnecessary
The second playthrough lets you play as "9S", a character that focus on hacking moreso than physical combat. I've read that his hacking ability is super gimmicky and his playthrough is as repetitive as they come. The third playthrough seems pretty interesting, as it lets you play as one of the villains who appeared for a brief moment in the first playthrough. I don't know if I want to play through it multiple times over, though. I'm still shocked at how suddenly the game ended, and how little time I spent in each area of the tiny world map although I did the majority of the side quests in the game.

RealGunner wrote:Thimmy wrote:Apparently, I just completed Nier: Automata. I completed one of many endings, that is. And I'm super underwhelmed. I don't even know how to rate it. I've read comments on the internet saying that you have to complete the game with different characters, in order to fully understand the story (every time you complete it, you get to play it all over again from a new character's perspective), but I don't know if I can be arsed to do so. Maybe it's because I've been spoilt recently with games likes Horizon Zero Dawn, Yakuza 0 etc, but Nier: Automata had a fraction of the content, polish and entertainment value that those game have.
The game is pretty unique, the music is very good and I definitely liked certain things about it. It felt refreshingly different, at first. However, the story is a cliché with an anti-climatic ending that left me wondering if the other half of the game would continue after the credits stopped rolling down. The combat, while fun at times, can be very gimmicky and repetitive, and it feels like I just completed 1/4 of a game that had stuttering frame rates, repetitive combat, boringly simple enemies and very little going for it that would warrant the high ratings it seems to be getting from reviewers. I'll complete the game at least once more, just to see if there's any truth to the claim that you have to complete the game multiple times in order to fully understand and appreciate the story, but so far I'm really disappointed in the overall product.
Actually sounds underwhelming. Why do you think Critics loved it so much?
I have absolutely no clue. I would really like to know the answer to that question, lol.

I took me 36 hours, and that's with doing the majority of the side quests and spending a lot of time killing random mobs. I was pretty over-levelled by the time I got to the final part of the game. I didn't fully upgrade my weapons, since I hadn't collected enough materials for it before the game suddenly became linear and lead me straight to the final boss.

Sounds on point for the other games in the series (Drakengard 1-3 and Nier). They were action games in the end so they weren't overly long, but all had multiple endings and needed various play throughs. Don't know if the new Nier is more RPG than the rest, but that's how they were before.

Re: General Games Discussion
In fairness Thimmy you just completed one of the endings, most people on NeoGAF and such like seem to think that's like playing a 3rd of the full game lol.
Not sure why it's set up like that though, seems weird.

Also on PSNow i have found that the smoothness of the service regularly depends on the time of the day it's used.
I have noticed it lags significantly less during the afternoon compared at night for some reason.
BTW i'd wait until they give everything as part of one subscription, because as of right now once the trial is done you have to pay for everything individually.

What do you mean with paying for everything individually?
Isn't it a monthly fee that gives you access to everything? I'm seeing it as 20/month or 45/3months but I haven't bought it yet so I'm not sure.

Re: General Games Discussion
When i used it last the monthly thing wasn't available, you had to buy whatever you want individually.
They said they were going to change that for everything under a monthly fee, maybe they already have?
I thought that was coming when they add the PS4 games though.

I haven't played the Drakengard games and I never finished the first Nier, but I read some people on the internet saying that Automata is less RPG-based than it's prequel.
Mole: Yeah, the other play-throughs have to be pretty amazing, if it's going to change my overall opinion of the game. I'm not really looking forward to playing through the gimmicky combat sequences multiple times over again. The story might make more sense with additional play-throughs, but the game itself is lacking in content. It honestly makes me wonder if 95% of the people who rated the game on Metacritic are fanboys. I don't understand the exceptionally high ratings, and I certainly don't understand the people who claim that it's the best game they've ever played.

When I signed up for the free trial last month it already had the monthly fee (this is PSN EU). They must have had already changed it.
I stopped it because I focused on Nioh for the past month, but now I'm looking into it again and I really wanna play Ni No Kuni so I think I'll get it.

Yeah i get that Thimmy, i wouldn't bother with it personally.
No game should make you replay it to get the true experience IMO.
Also should never listen to User Reviews IMO, they are almost always full of fanboys or haters either way with an agenda.
They mean nothing IMO.

I'll at least play through it a second time. I don't want to judge the game prematurely. I have nothing else to play at the moment, anyway. I played the first hour or so from "9S'" point of view. It seems promising, so far. It focuses far more on hacking and that Space Invaders mini-game, which was a nice change of pace from the regular combat. I know they're both gimmicks that'll become redundant fast, but as long as his point of view is a relatively different experience from the first completion, then playing through it a second time might not be so bad. But yeah, I agree with you that games shouldn't make you replay them to get the full experience. Especially not, when there's not enough content or features present to add sufficient elements of variation to each play-through.
On one hand, playing through the game with a different character in a parallel setting, is quite original and could potentially be a great solution for adding replay-ability to a game, but definitely NOT if the first play-through suffers as a result of it.

Biggest news is that Blizz didn't kill off LAN play.
The game is identical to the original to the point that it can play the old replays and all the customs maps are going to work as expected.

I'm most likely not going to get it. I might decide to buy it if it includes MW2 remastered, which I doubt it will. I'm not even hyped to play FPS games these days, but MW2 would be an exception.
