Re: The Last Of Us: Part 2
The number of collectables in this game is driving me insane. I'm still Part 1 Day 2.

So now I have to play as someone who killed my favourite character and the guy who could have been the new co-lead for TLOU3?
Interesting direction...
- Spoiler:
I remember you read the leaks. Did you know about this?
Nope
- Spoiler:
I read Joel and Ellie died by the hands of a new character which is now Abbie. Also read that Abbie and her group attacks jackson killing Dina but i think that was just fabrication unless it happens later.
The leaks i read on reddit may have been someone making their own story up after reading few plot points.
Although i am glad now since it's all new to me.

danyjr wrote:@RealGunner are you playing Survivor difficulty?
Yea
But it makes no difference since it's artificial difficulty increase. Everything remains the same you just get less ammo which i barely use anyways. I have not used a single medical kit so far out of necessity.
But just like thimmy i have been busy with family n stuff so didn't get as much time to play it.
Going to try and finish it over the weekend

Re: The Last Of Us: Part 2
Yeah, I'm playing on Hard and have barely used ammo too.
- Spoiler:
- apart from on shamblers. Is there any way to sneak kill these fuckers?
Re: The Last Of Us: Part 2
Nah i kept trying to sneak kill too but the game just put a tip saying it's impossible.
Makes sense though. Knife won't go through them

Re: The Last Of Us: Part 2
No but I'm close. Can't be bothered to finish it any more, I tried to push myself to do it but don't care about the character without spoiling things.
I will pick it up later to finish the achievements as I picked up all collectibles up to now. I have 4-5 hours more left.

Re: The Last Of Us: Part 2
Finished the game.
Visuals: 10/10
Honestly, the graphics, animations and facial expressions are some of the best if not the best I've seen in a video game. They must have mo-capped and post-process for a long time to get it to the level we saw. Cutscenes and cinematography were on par with Hollywood's best. Absolutely pushing a 7 year old console to the max while keeping the performance very playable.
Sound: 9/10
Great music and sound design. I really liked the dynamic soundtrack altering itself to what was happening in game. The music is by one of my favourite composers and kept the overall feel of the original game.
Gameplay: 7/10
You know what you're getting into with a Naughty Dog game. This is not the most action-packed game that will test your dexterity or reactions. There will be a lot of cutscenes. Prepare for a lot of walking and button mashing without actually playing. Having said that the combat and stealth were great, when they happened. I liked the variety of weapons and traps. The weapon upgrades also were okay. There were a lot of filler upgrades to the character though. A lot of times I felt like I had to waste my pills on some skill tree because I was only interested the last tier upgrade.
Story: 5/10
It is clear the producers of this game were influenced by the sociopolitical events of the social network age. While I welcome the representation of minorities and non-cookie-cutter characters, unfortunately I can't say the whole thing was not forced. The story, especially it's ending didn't make sense at all and everything ended erratically with no logic IMHO. I really enjoyed the first game's story and I regard it as one of the best I've played. This game comes close up to a point and then it goes downhill. It's a shame but no regrets in playing the game.

Re: The Last Of Us: Part 2
So I took a hiatus and finally got to the trans scene
And... that's it?! All this drama over such a small scene? Anti climatic AF
Rat king fight was awesome though, was freaked the fuck out the entire time
Also, so far at least, Abby >>>>>>>>>>>> Ellie

Re: The Last Of Us: Part 2
- Final thoughts:
Finished this a bit over a month ago
From a gameplay perspective it was a fantastic experience. Tons of amazing scenes like the rat king, the wolves vs scars battle, etc. Had lots of fun both vs zombies and humans, and especially when the 2 were at the same time.
The hate seems mostly undeserved to me. The complains that the game was shoving down social justice down our throats was totally false, if anything it's a backdrop but has very little bearing on the story itself. It was so minor I'm amazed so much controversy was turned around it.
Story wise, I think I have the opposite reaction to most people. Abbie's arc was good, I felt like her development was fully realized and over her 3 chapters she became a character I cared about. Her arc had understandable motivations, she had a more compelling path, spent more time on the supporting cast (liked Manuel and the two scar kids, Owen was a bitch tho, sex scene was totally unnecessary), and she was remained throughout a fundamentally decent person (she let Ellie go twice!).
Ellie on the other hand, we find out that she barely spoke to Joel for like 2 years after finding out what he did, and that she had not even forgiven him for what he did when he died. It feels like of all the people that could understand why someone would set out to kill Joel she would be the one like "yup, surprised his past took this long to catch up with him".
And yet she decides to go on a revenge path because... reasons? I kinda get it, the first time around, it was still raw and emotional. But the 2nd time she left I just couldn't wrap my head around why it was so important for her to still track down Abbie. And especially after finding out she had pretty much been crucified and she kept at it. Almost wish they let the player decide what happened then because Ellie's arc makes no sense whatsoever.
I figure the player is supposed to infer that Ellie had forgiven Joel and she is obsessed with Abbie because she robbed him of that chance at reconciliation... but that's a lot of reading between the lines for this kind of game, and they should've taken steps to make that more clear.
I think the people that are obsessed with hating Abbie are that way because they never got over the fact that he killed Joel. But, let's be clear, Joel was the anti-hero of part 1, from almost all other characters perspective he was the villain and deserves everything he got. These people are like the ones rooting for Tony Soprano or Walter White.
IMO the main flaw of the story (besides Ellie having no development until the very end) is the structure. Starting with killing Joel, then focusing on Ellie, and then Abbie didn't serve the game at all, and I would've mixed it up a little more. Killing Joel off so early seems to have been mostly done for shock value, would've been better if the player got to sympathize with Abbie first and then have her kill him than first kill him then ask the audience to sympathize with him.
Thought Ellie losing some fingers was a nice touch to the personal cost of all the revenge. She'll need to learn how to play left handed now if she ever wants to play chords again. I suppose we'll see in part 3.

Re: The Last Of Us: Part 2
Late to the party as always, a year since the premiere I finally got round to it. Just wanted to say the graphics, animations and attention to detail is amazing. They've made a tremendous leap since part 1. I'm about 4 hours in and it just feels like a beautiful movie. The music/sound effects in general is wonderful and the writing/storytelling is great so far. What an incredible experience, will touch on the story when I'm done. I'm taking my time with it as not to miss any little nugget. It made me quite furious that Ellie singing "Take on me" was an easily missable scene which is why I'm thoroughly investigatin every single room

Re: The Last Of Us: Part 2
Goddamn. It took me 41h24m to complete the game. What a ride
The ending left a bittersweet taste in my mouth though. So far i'm lost for words
Have to admit I thought this was the 2nd and last part? But now i'm reading BC's summary and I didnt even realize Part 3 is in plans? that's great
but if thats the case then i have no problem with the ending because it leaves everything wide open.

As for the story it still deeply pulls you in, a new interesting character is introduced and although you could have some objections as BC did in his spoiler about the sequence of events (you should read it after you finish the game), i enjoyed how you get to see another side to the story and what drives other people involved in Ellie's path aswell. Thats all since I dont want to spoil anything for you. The diversity of characters is a big positive takeaway
Nostalgia plays a big part too, the moments reminiscing about what happened in the first game (with young ellie) are beautiful, moving and quite frankly very touching.
The gameplay is just better in every way. A tremendous leap since Part 1. The detail is mind blowing. I cant compare it to any other game in terms of detail because I dont tihnk such a game exists on this level.
The NPCs are challenging too even on medium level. It is appreciated because in many games NPCs are really, really awful.
