Re: The 2017 January Transfer Window Thread
Would have been nice to make some quality additions, but Janury doesn't really lend to that most often. And I'd sooner see us be forward-thinking and forgo activity than buy for its own sake and be saddled for years with a bunch of garbage.

Re: The 2017 January Transfer Window Thread
That is true.
I could still see a cheeky deadline day bid for Payet seeing how his situation is going at West Ham.
That aside, I don't see any changes.

Re: The 2017 January Transfer Window Thread
Yea, much better this way. Our team could be improved but doing it in January is a slippery ground. The pressing concern we had was more depth and Akè solves that.
Just save the unspent 60M we received this january for this summer.

I don't want Payet nor do I think we need him, he can GTFO.
Lets see what happens with the striking options, I'd like to see Llorente stay at Swans and guide them to safety.

Payet would at least be entertaining.
I guess at this point, Musonda is also staying, so we can add him to the list on players in this window

Napoli are apparently preparing to sign a new LB, to replace Ghoulam:

Apparently we're interested in the summer.

Its likely that he will be available for the right money. He is a good, fairly complete left back with many years of his prime ahead. Will be a good pick up for any team. Napoli will probably go after Masina or Barreca.

Re: The 2017 January Transfer Window Thread
Yea, I'm fine with him. Him and Alonso on the left, Moses and Aina on the right and we're set for the wingback department, also considering that other players can fill in that role if necessary. Only concern is that Moses' performances have been slacking for a while now., but to be fair it's hard to maintain that force of nature level he had in the first months, and he was great in our very last game.

Looks like we're getting Kolasinac instead of Ghoulam.

Looks like we've made a second bid for Gordon

Ivanovic to Zenit is basically done.
Begovic is likely staying as we're unable to find a replacement, and a late Kolasinac bid has failed. Both moves are likely to happen in the Summer, though.

So our window has ended with Ake Musonda and Kenedy returning from loan, while Oscar, Mikel and Ivanovic have departed.

Not sure how I feel about that, still think we have way too much talent that needed to go out on loan.

Yeah.
Todd Kane hanging around is odd. I also think Musonda would have been better off on loan.

Re: The 2017 January Transfer Window Thread
Doesn't the championship loan window stay open longer than the transfer window proper? Or is that just following the summer one?

I think they canned that.
Kane was never linked to anyone. I wonder if he'll make our EPL squad? We have room for him.

That no replacement(s) in any capacity were brought in for our departees this month, maybe suggests the remainder of the season will be something of a trial run for our younger players and a chance for them to make a case for themselves going forward.

Very much so.
Ake and Zouma look like our main CB back ups, Chalobah is one of our main options off the bench, and Kenedy, Aina, and possibly Kane are our only back ups for WB unless you count Pedro.
With Musonda back, he might get some minutes on the wing.
Hopefully they all see some minutes.

Particularly looking forward to seeing Kenedy. He was very exciting on his few cameos last season. Would like to see Aké involved as well, given he's decidedly already gone a long way to giving a good account of himself as far as PL-readiness is concerned.

Re: The 2017 January Transfer Window Thread
I hope to see all of them, at different times.
Musonda is a hugely talented player, and will hopefully get some game time.
I suppose an argument for winning the league ASAP could be made so all of Zouma, Ake, Chalobah, Kenedy, Aina, RLC, Musonda, and Batshuayi can get more game time than at the present.

Re: The 2017 January Transfer Window Thread
RLC should have been loaned out IMO. He's been getting some minutes here and there, but he would have benefitted a lot from starting week and week out. I'd say he's the most talented and ready youngsters we have in our squad, and he would have made an impact in a PL team instantly.
Shed, I don't know about Kenedy tbh. The way he failed to make an impact at Watford and was sent back ASAP isn't very promising. The only spot where I could have seen him getting some playtime was the LWB, but so far Conte seems to trust Akè as the Alonso back-up. I'd be surprised to see him playing any minutes at all.
