Re: Patrik Laine
Truly a phenomenon and equaling the record he did shows that he's only getting started. Outperforming Matthews despite coming 2nd to him at the moment.

Re: Patrik Laine
Yeah, I think Laine was better player in the draft, but Toronto needed center so they had to go with Matthews. Could still be a mistake if Laine is going to be the best shot in NHL history. Seeing Laine he reminds me of Lemieux, tall, lanky, long reach and still skillful, even though his shot is the most impressive thing.
All others were 19 and in higher scoring eras. Laine is going to be 18 the whole regular season.

Exiting game vs Detroit, did everything out there. Looks more and more like Mario, with a shot like Ovi has.

Correcting the OP, Gretzky actually wasn't a rookie and was only 18 years half of the season when he scored 51 goals in high scoring era. Dale Hawerchuk holds the rookie record for being 18 year old almost all of the season and scored 45 goals. Laine is currently on pace for 43 goals, in low scoring era.

Re: Patrik Laine
He is out, concussion. I wonder when he will come back. Either way, with him or without him Jest won't make playoffs, so Harmonica should be happy as Laine will play in 2017 IIHF World Championship.

Re: Patrik Laine
I think it takes usually 6 days, if no symptoms, so he could be playing as early as saturday. Also he was voted in to NHL All-Star Game, as the 4th youngest in NHL history.

Re: Patrik Laine
Third hatrick of the season, which is also 18 year old rookie record. Rookie record is 5 by Teemu Selänne who was 22 at the time. Laine has about 25 games to match that.

Closing on ppg, 2nd on gpg and 10th on ppg with those who have played 50 games. Too bad he missed 8 games through the injury.

Re: Patrik Laine
Adjusted scoring statistics for 18 year old rookies. Note that players like Gretzky and McDavid were 18 just half a season where as Laine will be 18 whole season.

Re: Patrik Laine
Laine beats Jaromir Jagr's record for most points for 18 year old rookie from Europe, with 16 games still left.

Re: Patrik Laine
McDavid probably currently, but Laine has better, almost freakish potential and has developed during the season well. Laine actually has the best ppg ytd of all NHL, 1.42.
Laine is still raw physically, yet he had the 2nd hardest shot in all-star game and was the 5th fastest skater. But when he actually fills that 6'5" frame, learns couple first steps, with his skills it could be scary good.
One of the remarkable things also is, that Laine leads the league with best shot conversion ratio, yet has the longest average distance in goals.
