I kinda like the idea, but can't be bothered to check all 15 of them. If you add future goals conceded after every 1 or 2 games, I'll say my piece on them.

Just do the last goal against Watford.

I think Henderson was the biggest culprit. Milner didn't paint himself in glory. Got beat way too easy. but Can had already arrived in front of Amrabat and Lucas had his left side covered.

All Hendeson had to do was stay with Janmaat. Even if Ambarat came to the left he would have come to him. But nope, Hendo decides to go hold Can's hand and leaves Janmaat completely by himself.

Can't blame the keeper at all here.

No we can't.

This has nothing to do with stats.

This is a discussion thread about our defensive shortcomings.

I get them on r/soccer and r/liverpoolfc.

For the ones that aren't on reddit, I make them myself. They are very quick and easy to make.

Well, I'd say it's between Milner, Henderson and Lucas.
Milner lost his man way too easily.
Henderson started ball-watching instead of marking Janmaat.
Lucas drifted needless out wide even though he was playing CB on the side where the goal came.


Our defence does worry me in general though. Watford only had that about 10 minute spell at 5 - 0 when they played a little bit better. Nothing above average. And, to me, it looked like the goal was coming. Basically, our ability to soak up pressure is really bad.

Liverpool no doubt are playing most exhilarating, exciting and beautiful brand of football in Europe but at risk of being called spoilsport I must point out that it is defence that makes u win league titles. especially in very competitive league such as epl you must have that ability to grind out 1-0 results.
Your forward however talented they are, are going to find difficult to score in some games especially in later part of season when most teams will definitely work out a plan to stop them.
So it is absolutely critical for Kloppo to address the issue. You don't have quality individuals at back so they have to work as unit and shield the weak link. Also stop giving goals for peanuts, keeping a clean sheet is huge confidence boost for defence. I would take 3-0 over 5-2 any day.
It's upto Kloppo and Liverpool if they want to be league winners or the team that should have won.

Matip is the best CB in the league. Our fullbacks Milner and Clyne are up there as well.

The caveat of having an amazing offense like we do means you have to sacrifice a little bit at the back. Henderson is playing as a DM for us. think about that for a second.

If we shored up our back line and added more steel to be stronger defensively we would lose out a bit on offense.

Look at Spurs, they can't buy a goal yet have the best defensive record in the league. It's doing them so good keeping all these clean sheets not being able to win games, right?

Goals win you games. We get goals first and foremost. Not conceding does not guarantee you wins.

Ya let's agree to disagree then. Btw can we have stats of opposition shots allowed on target per game, I think that is good test to see if there is improvement as the season goes on.

Liverpool are top 3 in Europe with Juve and Bayern at allowing the least amount of shots on target.

We are very good at defending from open play.

Our achilles heel has been set pieces and some odd dumbass mistakes by Matip's partners (Lucas and Lovren).

Never in my wildest dreams would have I guessed that Liverpool are top 3 in Europe in least amount of shots conceded on target. That is good indicator though, it means the goals are conceded primarily due to individual brainfarts which can be easily sort out.

Also note that 5 of the goals in the league came without Matip in the first 2 games of the season.

We've improved massively since he's come in on that end.

And 7 of the goals were conceded with Moreno starting and many of them he's directly or indirectly a culprit of.

Moreno is benched and hopefully and doesn't get that many starts for the rest of the season. He doesn't have a single defensive cell in his body. He adds so much panic to the defense just with his sheer presence, it's a nightmare.

Milner-Matip-XXX-Clyne has been a very good backline. Lovren and Lucas have been decent partners for Matip overall outside of their occasional brainfarts and the will do for this season. And Klavan imo defensively is even more sound than those two but he's not as good on the ball as Lucas/Lovren. But if we did have a better partner for Matip, we'd be even better defensively (hoping for Van Dijk from Soton).

Clyne alongside Bellerin are the by far runaway the 2 best RBs in the league. Nobody else comes close imo.

Milner has been a revelation at LB. Specially what he adds offensively. Defensively he's decent-solid (in other words much better than Moreno). But offensively he's the best LB in the league. Pretty much a winger that works hard to help the defense out. He's one of the main reasons which allows Coutinho to play and drift wherever he wants and not be stuck on the left wing.

Shots on target it's even less obviously.

Only three sides—Arsenal ( 8 ), Chelsea (7) and Spurs (7) have conceded fewer Premier League goals than LFC since Joel Matip's debut (9).

Best CB in the league. It's very funny that some idiots refuse to believe me in this.

I don't care about the stats. It's the eye test.
