It's sad to see Xhaka not learn anything after all these poor performances defensively. Same is valid for Mustafi. Need to get their shit together soon, especially Mustafi if he is to start against Spurs.

No defense is going to look good with Jenkinson in it. Xhaka needs to work on his tackling FFS. Is looking like a prime Scholes with some crazy reckless shit.

Ospina was GOAT today. Nice to see we're stacked in the GK department. A bit scrappy, but it was a good win nonetheless. Remember it's a CL away match. Kudos to Ludogrets for bringing their A game today.

Jenkinson is not good enough to play for us sadly, he will be a solid premierleague player but nothing much even his defending is iffy. Gibbo dissapointed me with his defending on the second goal, pure amateurish even Andre Santos would have done better.

Ospina is almost non existent with set pieces, every time we are defending a corner or a set piece it's like we don't have a keeper  

Xhaka needs to improve his defending, if he is to play in front of the back four then he needs to defend better. I have seen strikers defend better ffs, it's like he doesn't know what to do so he just throws himself.

Overall I wish we could take the champions league games more seriously, i understand that Arsene wants the teams to play with freedom but there are times when we need to be more organised and play with more discipline. At times it's like watching 11 men free styling on the pitch  

By the looks of things, Xhaka is good at recognising when the defence is in trouble and when he needs to fill in and do something cynical to slow down counters. The problem he has is that he's too reckless about stopping it, either diving in on players or being very unsubtle about it. I'm sure it's something Wenger is working on. We don't necessarily want him to lose his aggression entirely, but we need him to use it differently.

As for our defence, I'm seeing signs that suggest Mustafi and Koscielny have yet to reach a true understanding. Individually they're good defenders and playing well, but as a pairing they're making mistakes, especially when it comes to picking up strikers in the penalty area. For Ludogoret's second goal, you could see Mustafi pointing out the goalscorer to Koscielny, but neither of them got tight. I think for that particular instance it was more Mustafi's job to get tight than Koscielny's, since he was blocking the front post after Gibbs got destroyed.

Then there were times in both games against Ludogorets when they were caught out by balls over the top. It's like neither of them knew when to drop a couple of yards or how to play offside properly. That timing as a pairing isn't there yet.

The good news is these things can improve with time. We forget that despite their good starts Mustafi and Xhaka have only been at the club for a short time.

.. and they, especially Mustafi, have been thrust into the spotlight since they arrived, thanks in part to key injuries.
