Great Leader Sprucenuce wrote:Hyphen thing is weird though.
Even when people actually have middle names in the way Hans just described the hyphens don't actually exist.
So this is some other pompous nonsense
But the hyphens signify the equal connection of family names (husband and wife) to one new family name, nothing to do with first or middle name? Or are the posh double surname formed in a different way?

No idea but I'm going to assume it's posh nonsense from a position of arrogance

Re: The English youngsters with bizarre double surnames thread
My parents gave us old middle names, my brother's is Robert, mine is Joseph where i live it's just a tradition, it has no purpose. 100% sure it's my mother who insists and my father didn't give enough fucks to argue with her.
Can't think of one occasion where i've used it. On my main ID card (healthcare card) it doesn't even feature. Then as a teenager/young adult i had to subscribe to tons of shit that requires identity (social insurance number, driving license, bank account etc) and i used just First and Surname. So now it only exist on my birth certificate.

So not all English ppl have middle names ? I thought so based on Harry Potter too
I have nor middle name neither double surname. Both things are very rare in Italy.

Correct, it's a complete choice thing.
For example i don't have one but my two brothers both do.

People here do it as well. Although I only have one first name and one last name.
In a lot of African families people have like 2,3 middle names.

Are these actual names, or did you just watch some Irish TV show and hear «bye now, kittens» and «bright and early!»?

Borussia Dortmund have signed Jamie Bynoe-Gittens. The 16-year-old, who is expected to join the U19 squad, has penned a long-term deal with the club.
Sporting director Michael Zorc made the following comments: ''Jamie Bynoe-Gittens has joined us, and we are delighted to have him at in our youth set-up. He will initially play with the U19s. Our scouting department have done a fantastic job! He is a highly talented wide player, who will get the chance to develop at his own pace in our youth teams. We don't want expectations to be raised too high right from the start.''
