The English youngsters with bizarre double surnames thread

Long overdue, a thread to collect all those bizarre hyphenated surnames young English players all seem to have these days.

Ideally, everyone would simply post such names here, no other comments, musings, analysis, or judgements.

I'll start with a few, but seemingly there are like hundreds more out there.

It's because it's more acceptable nowadays for the mother to keep her maiden name when she gets married. So instead of losing their maiden name and taking on the husband's surname, they either don't change their name or hyphenate their name instead. Hence the child ends up with a hyphenated surname as well.

It's because it's more acceptable nowadays for the mother to keep her maiden name when she gets married. Hence the child ends up with a hyphenated surname as well.

I think that's cool, but what about Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain marrying Ruben Loftus-Cheek and adopting children? They would be name Oxlade-Chamberlain-Loftus-Cheek?

That's an observation I made too and was about to ask about.

It seems to me that the majority of kids with hyphenated surnames seem to be products of what is called 'mixed-race', or also mixed-nationality, marriages or relations?

Is it possible English women tend to be more likely to keep their maiden name when their partner is black or foreign?

I.e. are English women more racist than their own vaginas?

Not a fan of this hyphenated nonsense. Either don't change you maiden name or they should go with what SA and Southern European people do. By having the mother's last name incorporated to their name like Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro. No ones got time to type to say Cameron Borthwick-Jackson. Simply Cameron Borthwick Jackson and go by Cam Borthwicks or Cam Jackson. Also how pathetic does a man need to be to change his last name or get it hyphenated

In my culture the wife doesn't change her maiden name since thats her heritage and children simply take the last name of their father.

Here in South America (Which are the Portuguese and Spanish customs, I imagine) we just use both surnames.

Custom dictates that we have 2 given names and both our father's and mother's surnames. They can become quite long and a lot of people kinda go all out with those second names .

But it does seem much more natural than using all those hyphens.

it used to be only upper class well to do familes that have the double barrel name in England but seems to be more fashionable nowadays as us commoners usually have a surname that reflects the families traditional trade like cartwright, fletcher, smith, baker etc. I must admit I was thinking the same thing watching the spurs Liverpool game last night there seems to be a lot of these names about now.
