Re: The Official WWE Thread - Part 30
It's even worse in hindsight now Cena is basically trying to do a Rock as we speak, losing interest in WWE in favour of Hollywood.
Not that I blame Cena for that, if reaching the top in WWE is an alternate route in to big acting roles it makes sense but he played the whole 'I care about the fans, you don't' crap and it backfired

Re: The Official WWE Thread - Part 30
I never understood why fans gave The Rock shit for that anyway, he wants to further his career and life? so what lol.
He gave them fans a near decade of all time great memories, don't get the criticism.
Feel the same way about Cena now tbh, he deserves what ever opportunities comes his way and he's earned it. Not gonna shit on him for it.

They want him to burn out in WWE and hang around 'till he's 60 and twerking part time or some shit I guess.
It's only understandable if a rassler leaves shortly after getting on top, which has never happened (?)

It's because they adored him way too much. I was heartbroken back then to know Rock won't be a full timer anymore.
With Cena, not totally sure many fans or atleast grown ups like us would care much unless WWE struggle to get new talent over. It's all down to that at the end of the day.

Re: The Official WWE Thread - Part 30
Only negative of Cena fading away is WWE just suck at producing
(Insert reference for MT here) larger than life people AKA stars. So the star count goes down one and who do we have left? Roman Reigns? Irish midget with demon paint?

Re: The Official WWE Thread - Part 30
Part of that is because they want to protect the no 1 guy too much tbh.
Before it was Cena and now it's Reigns, they don't care about anybody but him.
Another reason why i prefer Smackdown as a wrestling alternative because it feels like people are on a even playing field and they react to what the fans are doing.
If they spent half as much effort on trying to get other guys on the roster over as they do for Reigns i'm convinced it would be a much better product storyline wise.

Had this discussion before, don't see how it benefits WWE to have 1 guy above the rest and not a number of similarly placed people who are all draws in their own right.
Smackdown doesn't have a full time superhuman raping the roster thankfully.

I don't think Reigns will last long tbh. Fans continue to reject him no matter what he does. I can see him take the Batista route in a couple of years.

Re: The Official WWE Thread - Part 30
Yep.
It's not a coincidence at all that most people consider 2000 to be the best year they have ever had.
Not a coincidence in the slightest that year their no 1 guy was down with injury and it forced them to push the likes of The Rock, HHH, Angle etc etc and obviously you had Benoit and Guerrero in the mid card.
no 1 guy thing never works IMO, best way is to find at least half a dozen guys you want to push and have feuds be put together based on the stories you want to tell and adapt based on what the fans want to see.
If you are lucky enough to have anyone below those half a dozen guys then slowly push him through the card too.
But the whole push one guy and *bleep* everyone else because that's who we want stick doesn't work and never has IMO.
There might have been a time it worked financially ( Hogan and Stone Cold) but creatively i will always enjoy a product more when there's a likelihood of unpredictability and freshness at the top.

Re: The Official WWE Thread - Part 30
I totally forgot about this one :
Completely destroys Hogan. Nobody has straight out embarrassed Hogan like that on TV lol. Also without a doubt my favorite version of the Rock.
Stone Cold and Taker are probably the only two guys where he hasn't totally been able to destroy on the mic. Rock couldn't compete with Stone Cold's pops alone.

Impossible to destroy Stone Cold due to him just saying what gets a massive reaction
Also Taker came across as such a badass and had such a aura that what you said to him didn't really matter.

Re: The Official WWE Thread - Part 30
The What thing happened when he was with Alliance though around late 2001.
Even before that, The Rock couldn't get his shtick over with Stone Cold.
Yeah , it's basically the badass aura that both him and Taker have that it becomes so cool to cheer for them so no insults could make them look bad.
As a kid, I actually hated Taker's American Badass gimmick but looking back now , I wished he had a longer run with that gimmick.

Taker is GOAT for a reason. Every gimmick he tried worked brilliantly imo. Had so much variation in his career. Never got stale.

Re: The Official WWE Thread - Part 30
I don't think i liked the American Bad Ass gimmick btw, i loved the Big Evil gimmick but the two are different obviously.
I think the time i started to like that gimmick was probably when he feuded with Flair and Hogan and the slow burn face turn after that before being buried alive in Survivor Series 03 but before that i was meh on it.
His feud with Flair and Hogan are really underrated IMO, both are really short but have moments i'll never forget.
Specifically hog tieing Hogan to his bike
Also his feud with Flair had one of the smoothest spinebusters ever....
Like butter ffs.

Always think triple h role has been immense in pushing likes of rock, Austin and hbk. He was/is probably the most badass heel in industry. The amount of heat he drew be it with mic, in ring or backstage was just plain awesome.

Re: The Official WWE Thread - Part 30
When he first came out with the American Badass gimmick, I thought it was really cool because it portrayed more of the real life Taker. I hate most of his promos with Paul bearer and his storyline with Kane tbh.
I do agree his heel Big Evil gimmick was much better though. That swerve on JR ffs. That whole segment was gold starting from Stone cold spanking Vince's ass to Taker forcing JR to kiss Vince's ass.

Re: The Official WWE Thread - Part 30
That right there is why people were hyped when Anderson, Gallows, Styles were signed with Balor in NXT lol.
But instead we got Gallows and Anderson jobbing to everyone under the sun and were just a generic tag team and nothing like they were in Japan.
