edit: How come you're already able to play the game, Mole? I was only able to start downloading it 26 minutes ago, and I didn't do so since I thought it would start automatically. 93gigs Looks like I'll have to wait another half an hour.Great Leader Sprucenuce wrote:Why is yours an whole extra day
It unlocks in 15 minutes here.
Early average score of 97 from critics reviews While I'm sure that average will drop, that's still a damn good start.
Slant Magazine strikes again, and drags down the average with a score of 70, in order to attract people to their feministic, game review website. I doubt anyone else will rate it lower than that.

Doesn't really matter now. Only took half an hour to download it, anyway. I've got pretty fast internet.

Re: Red Dead Redemption 2
Very early impressions.
Despite only really doing the tutorial area some things are already apparent..
Game is ridiculously good looking, I love Arthur as a character and the interactions with the gang are brilliant so far.
One thing with shooting I immediately noticed is at least with rifles they seem to behave more realistically and you can't just spam the trigger with them like you could in the first game.
I don't consider this good or bad, just something I noticed. I'm going to get some sleep now and likely play it all day tomorrow.

Re: Red Dead Redemption 2
I consider that good. The first game was REALLY pushing it with the auto aim and how fast John could unload into enemies.
Sure, we could suspend realism because John is a badass like Clint in the Dollars trilogy, but I would prefer slower fighting. And hopefully a bit more difficult.

There's always a couple. I'll take it, people are too quick to hop on to hype (I have been for years with this game) and go on mob mentality and rage against anyone who dare go against the norm.
Although it's clear that this reviewer is in the minority, outliers are always good. Can help you realize the game ISN'T going to be an incredible masterpiece for everyone, and I think it's valuable in itself to observe that a 3.5/5 stars is seen as an outlier. That means the game is really good, generally.
Or they're doing it for clickbait, in which case *bleep* that guy.

They've done it several times with popular games. They criticised the most recent Yakuza game, which is set in the Yakuza scene of patriarchal Japan, for being sexist. Rated it lower than anyone else, like they seem to have a penchant for doing. Their strategy seems to work, as it leads to fans of these games visitting their site in order to vent frustration. Some of their reviews are long and well articulated, but they seem to punish games for arbitrary things, which I can only assume is their way of creating an alibi for the low ratings.

Played it for 6 hours last night and I can already tell Arthur ain't gonna top Marston. He's nowhere as likeable.
Re: Red Dead Redemption 2
How are we going to proceed on spoilers? I want to be able to discuss with you guys but also not to get spoiled. Game is already pre-loaded, just waiting for work to end and get on it!

I love him, he's made me laugh about dozen times in and I'm only two hours or so in.
Being likeable is overrated tbh.

Not particularly hard, just spoiler tag everything story related and be pretty clear about what you're going to discuss so people will know whether they can click the spoiler or not.

Re: Red Dead Redemption 2
Will be on it in a couple hrs I guess. When it's done installing.
Seeing so so many people absolutely shitting on how it controls. Hope it's just people being nitpicky and doesn't hinder the experience.

Re: Red Dead Redemption 2
The controls were fine for me, you just need to readjust your habits a little bit.
It is not the controls that has concerned me the most. I find the story good and engaging but it can be disjointed from the rest of the beautifully crafted world. They feel like two different games, one the open world where you are free to roam and the other which is rigidly scripted.
As far as open world games go, it is one of the best in recent years even though it doesn't hold a candle to Zelda BotW.

Re: Red Dead Redemption 2
Tbf though, if there is one aspect you can criticize about just about every Rockstar games, it's the controls. If they're a bit clunky, well, that's a persistent theme with R* I feel.
Others may feel differently though.

Likeable doesn't matter to me at all as long as they're not annoying.

All the characters (so far) are fantastic imo, it's like watching a HBO made Western or something lol.
Production value, writing etc all make each character feel amazing and definitely above what Rockstar has done before.

You know a game is good when you physically pull yourself off it because you need to eat.
